Japanese
Okura has its beginnings in La Quinta, California, where the Japanese-fusion restaurant has become a local phenomenon and is now also located in the center of Laguna Beach. Enjoy everything Japanese cuisine has to offer, ranging from unique appetizers to delicious Kobe steak and entrees from our Robata grill to the delicate and freshest selection of raw fish and seafood prepared by our master sushi chefs. The main dining rooms and lounge interiors, offer soothing earth tones and subdued lighting. The music is lively and sets the tone for a vibrant scene. The covered and heated patio is perfect for those who want to have the feeling of dining al fresco and the lounge serves up libations created by local friendly bar staff. Sake is a favorite and there are several to choose from the eclectic wine, sake and beer list.
So come in and see what we are all about… Irashaimase!

Was one of our favorite places in Laguna... but over the last 2-3 months quality of food has gone downhill and a cut back on proportions... also wait staff has also gone downhill... not sure what but something has happened here

The reason I gave the restaurant four instead of five stars for ambience, is all the televisions they have. I’m fine with a TV at the bar but there are too many TVs! Regardless, it’s a great restaurant and we have a lot of fun there and they serve delicious food.

Fresh food. A little expensive but goes with the location. 1 waiter working entire restaurant even the bar. So that sucked...

I am sold on service, and although the food was really good this past weekend at Okura, our service was horrible. We sat on the patio and it was not even full, yet our server was inattentive and when we asked about our order at one point, he was even a little curt and short with us. Like I said, the sashimi, sushi rolls, and seafood entree were all delicious, so if you are sold by food only, I give it 5 stars... but, the service was lacking.

This restaurant needs a lot of improvements in terms of service and food preparation. The tea was served cold, the rice was too soft and the grilled halibut was too sweet. My husband lost his appetite thus he left early.

Our party works at Bushard’s pharmacy & were celebrating our pharmacist Phil‘s birthday :) the okura staff was just wonderful and the production line they have put together works so well! we will be back on the 16th of April to celebrate Lika’s birthday :) our group goes out all the time and we were stoked to find all you can eat sushi throughout the week. We give two thumbs up

Was greeted and sat nicely by the hostess. Drinks came out quick and they took our order. Food took about 20 minutes, which was the only bad part because there was only 2 or 3 other groups in the restaraunt. After we received our food, they didn’t ask us if we needed anything until we were finished, then took a while to get the bill. Fresh fish and great tasting food, just needs a little bit more responsive service. I recommend going here.

This was my first experience at Okura, and I will definitely be back. Our server was fantastic, the food presentation and quality were excellent, and the ambience was perfect.
A big thank you to the chefs and server for providing the perfect start to our night out in Laguna.

My experience here wasn’t great. We really wanted some good sushi and that we were let down on. There was a large loud group of people next to us so the servers were frantic. I ordered sushi and when I got it, it was different from what the menu said it was. I had to show the server what the menu said to prove that what I had wasn’t what I ordered or was expecting to get. The chicken I ordered was overcooked and just not good for the price.

The prices were a understandable for the most part except for the sushi platter. I did not appreciate the automatic tip taken from my bill considering our waitress was a little rude, but either way the classic rolls were very good & worth it.

Looking for a different sushi place and pulled it up because they took reservations on Open Table. Very good quality sushi. In particular, the rolls didn't have an abundance of rice, mostly fresh fish.

Since you asked - All of us were sick that evening and the next day. We are pretty certain it was something we ate at Okura. We are locals and are so disappointed that the quality of the food has declined. I called and left a very kind message - just wanted to give the owners a “heads-up”. Unfortunately I never got a response. Probably our last visit to Okura.... sad 🙁

It’s not usually a packed restaurant, but I think there was less than 15 people eating there... on a Friday night? That’s not good. Although the food was good, our waitress was really nice and helpful and so were others helping as needed. At the end of the meal, there was the worst smell of sewer that overlook the entire restaurant!! The waitress said it was coming from outside sewer system in Laguna Beach but when we walked outside, there was no smell. That was a major turn off!! Also it doesn’t have a good vibe anymore. The environment seems dull and kind of boring!! I used to like coming here and it’s been a while but I’m not so sure I would bring anyone there to eat especially with that awful smell!! Very sad to see a good place with great potential go down!!!

Good food but kind of overpriced- Although I guess it’s to be expected in Laguna. $150 + 20% tip for two people. Thought it would be busy on a Thurs night but was completely empty - so we sat at a bar table b/c there were at least two other couples in that section. Again, liked the food but steep to go back often and was hoping for a lively atmosphere.

Used to be or favorite. Was disappointed in quality of food not cc as good. The side tempura was skimpy .. Vegetables cut thinner
Bento box shrimp veryvshibby and small. Lava cake burnt on bottom and dry...sushi rolls tasted the same... Used to be different flavor.

Will wait to try again. . Heading back to San Shi Go even though this restaurant used to be our main choice

Food: 4/5
We dined off the AYCE menu — the sushi and nigiri is great. Highly recommend the hamachi! Rolls are very average, mostly spicy tuna and shrimp tempura type rolls but good nonetheless. Appetizers are all really good.

Service: 3/5
Visited for lunch and dinner and both times the service was mediocre. Restaurant was moderately busy but food took very long to come out from the sushi bar—wait was about 20-30 mins for sushi to arrive. Kitchen was timely with appetizer dishes. If you’re paying $40 for AYCE sushi, you’re practically limited to one round due to the amount of time it takes to get your food. Not worth it.

The sushi chef did bring us an “off the menu” dish to apologize for the long wait times and some free sake, which was a nice gesture. Granted, this was after bringing our concerns to the server a couple of times.

Ambience: 4/5
Outdoor patio is great. Their are heaters and TVs.

Overall, the sushi here is great but order al a carte. Don’t bother with AYCE.

I went here with very high hopes considering the price was higher up there. It was $90 for the two of us for all you can eat. The rolls were not worth it. The fish was okay. Our server was barely around and they had forgotten 3 of our orders. Overall I would never pay for that again. Save your money and go to a cheaper place that has way better food.
