Okura Robata Grill and Sushi Bar - La Quinta Ratings and Reviews
Best True Japanese in our area and we'll worth the drive if you live a distance away. Always fresh fish with wide array of total goodness. I garantee you'll want to come back! The staff is fabulous and so charming and knowledgeable so give it a try, you won't regret it.
Really special food and service. We will be back! This restaurant was recommended to us a part of a weekend wedding celebration. It is just a special place with great food. Our server, Hiroko, couldn't have been better or more efficient. The manager and floor managers made sure that everyone had a perfect experience. Great recommendation!
Although they forgot to check me in upon arrival for my reservation, (which lead to OpenTable sending me a “no-show” email, which was easily cleared up), and the fact that as soon as we paused from ordering, the check was given to us without asking if there was anything else we wanted to order, the sushi was excellent!
While the service was outstanding, I was somewhat disappointed with the food. Our Tiger roll was mushy, not spicy as noted on the menu. The mussels we very tough and small and not at all what I would expect. The atmosphere is vibrant, the interior was a pleasant surprise as the exterior lacks appeal. It looks much like a corner strip mall take out restaurant. Overall the bill was $175 for 2 persons and we did not order main courses, only apps! So I felt it was overpriced.
We eat here often and normally have a good experience. This visit was different. It took over 45 minutes for our first rolls. During that time no one checked on us or explained why our food was taking so long. Others who came in after us were getting their food while we waited. Needless to say, we did not order more rolls but would have if we had not experienced this difficulty.
Our favorite sushi spot in the desert. Save your appetite for dinner and try the all you can eat menu. Outstanding value. We were there Saturday night at 7.30 and the restaurant was packed with a line of people who had not made reservations waiting as long as 45 mins. We were seated within 5 mins of our reservation time and, despite the crowd, the service was prompt and the food delicious.
Over the years the food has never disappointed but be prepared to be greeted indifferently by the young Hostess who won't even look at you while speaking and makes it seem she hates her job. Service has been getting progressively worse, we watched our sushi sit for 10 minutes at the sushi bar only to be brought to the service station and sit some more and this was after a 45 minute wait.
Enjoyed a New Years Eve dinner with our son and two of his friends. Seated quickly, served promptly, unusual sushi and Japanese selections. Didn't care for tall bar stool seating in my section and noise level was annoying but hey, it's New Years eve after all.
Everything was great except for the fact that we had a reservation for 8pm and still had to wait 20 minutes to be seated. There were also spots available at the bar but we weren’t made aware of them or told we could sit there instead of waiting for a table, which we would have if given the option.
While it doesn't look like much more than a strip mall sushi joint from the outside inside it is a different story! Vibrant and full of energy! Hamachi carpaccio was fantastic - fresh creamy hamachi with a lemon soy vinaigrette. I love hamachi and this is some of the best I've ever had. Sushi was terrific - kept it simple with some unagi sushi and a rainbow roll. My only complaint is it was hard to find a reasonably priced bottle of wine (under $50). Will definitely be back!
My family has come here many times and had a great experience. This visit still had the same great feel as the rest but the service was lacking. This is not the norm. I will be back for the food but another poor service experience and I will have to look elsewhere.
We discovered Okura a few months ago and couldn't believe how great it was. We went twice for happy hour and loved everything. Had the best Martini ever. Everything is so fresh. The service is terrific. Our new favorite Japanese spot in the Coachella Valley. Loved the garlic soy edamame, soft shell crab is amazing, black code and miso sea bass are to die for. Can't want to try everything on the menu.
I normally like this restaurant, one of the better Japanese restaurants in the desert, I thought. However, when we ate last Sunday, I was disappointed due to two reasons;
- it was very noisy due to kids nearby our table, even though I requested quiet area. Kids were screaming.
- the sushi rice was not right. I am a Japanese, and I know what is right for sushi rice. Rice was hard, and sushi vinegar was not right. I was very disappointed at the sushi rice.
For the most part, the food at OKURA Robata Grill & Sushi Bar in La Quinta was good. The Beef Robata Skewers were delicious, I can't say the same for the Panko Roasted Herb Chicken, it was dry and not very flavorful. The biggest disappointment was the dessert, we were ready to order but instead the waiter dropped off our check and said have a good night, was he ready to go home and did he not want to work longer or did he not want our business?
