Okura Robata Grill and Sushi Bar - La Quinta Ratings and Reviews
Over the years the food has never disappointed but be prepared to be greeted indifferently by the young Hostess who won't even look at you while speaking and makes it seem she hates her job. Service has been getting progressively worse, we watched our sushi sit for 10 minutes at the sushi bar only to be brought to the service station and sit some more and this was after a 45 minute wait.
Enjoyed a New Years Eve dinner with our son and two of his friends. Seated quickly, served promptly, unusual sushi and Japanese selections. Didn't care for tall bar stool seating in my section and noise level was annoying but hey, it's New Years eve after all.
Everything was great except for the fact that we had a reservation for 8pm and still had to wait 20 minutes to be seated. There were also spots available at the bar but we weren’t made aware of them or told we could sit there instead of waiting for a table, which we would have if given the option.
While it doesn't look like much more than a strip mall sushi joint from the outside inside it is a different story! Vibrant and full of energy! Hamachi carpaccio was fantastic - fresh creamy hamachi with a lemon soy vinaigrette. I love hamachi and this is some of the best I've ever had. Sushi was terrific - kept it simple with some unagi sushi and a rainbow roll. My only complaint is it was hard to find a reasonably priced bottle of wine (under $50). Will definitely be back!
My family has come here many times and had a great experience. This visit still had the same great feel as the rest but the service was lacking. This is not the norm. I will be back for the food but another poor service experience and I will have to look elsewhere.
We discovered Okura a few months ago and couldn't believe how great it was. We went twice for happy hour and loved everything. Had the best Martini ever. Everything is so fresh. The service is terrific. Our new favorite Japanese spot in the Coachella Valley. Loved the garlic soy edamame, soft shell crab is amazing, black code and miso sea bass are to die for. Can't want to try everything on the menu.
I normally like this restaurant, one of the better Japanese restaurants in the desert, I thought. However, when we ate last Sunday, I was disappointed due to two reasons;
- it was very noisy due to kids nearby our table, even though I requested quiet area. Kids were screaming.
- the sushi rice was not right. I am a Japanese, and I know what is right for sushi rice. Rice was hard, and sushi vinegar was not right. I was very disappointed at the sushi rice.
For the most part, the food at OKURA Robata Grill & Sushi Bar in La Quinta was good. The Beef Robata Skewers were delicious, I can't say the same for the Panko Roasted Herb Chicken, it was dry and not very flavorful. The biggest disappointment was the dessert, we were ready to order but instead the waiter dropped off our check and said have a good night, was he ready to go home and did he not want to work longer or did he not want our business?
Several thinks went wrong. First, the drink ordered they no longer have but it is still on menu. Second, they brought my entree with the appetizers. I finished my food before my even got his. Third, they charged us wrong on our bill. And lastly, they forgot to give me my credit card back.
This is the third time we have had bad service.
If the food wasn’t so darn good , we wouldn’t go back.
We made a 9 o clock open table reservation, arriving 10-15 minutes early. Upon arrival the hostess was looking at the computer and didn't look up until i had to say reservation.. then all she said was my name and took us to table, not very friendly to start. Our server was very friendly but getting say at 850, ten minutes early from our reservation, we were informed we had to order the all you can eat in ten minutes ( all rounds) which wasn't informed online or on the all you can eat menu. So we quickly ordered both rounds before even enjoying our drinks we ordered. One of the fried shrimp appetizers came out the little mini ones that are in the glass cup with lettuce which we've ordered many times previous , except this time the shrimps were cold. Normally their hot like they just been cooked, we got one more and same thing, cold! The other items we got were delicious as usual. But before we even got our second round which was at 905 pm, We were informed last call already done including drinks!! Luckily our server who was very nice let us order one more beer. The website said the place closed at 930. They accepted a 9pm reservation, how can you not order anymore beverages when you haven't even gotten all your food yet! Ridiculous! Before even finishing our food the lights were all turned on and everyone was cleaning and it was definitely a weird atmosphere, where we didn't get offered to order dessert as well! For a 120$ bill for a party of 2. We will def never make a late reservation. They should not take reservations late or they should warn you online or upon arrival that the experience will not be what it normally is, which is rushed and not the quality you want when dining and spending money on a date night
This was our third visit. The first two were for happy hour and we loved it. This time we sat in the restaurant dining room to celebrate my husband's birthday. This is our new favorite Japanese restaurant. The garlic edamame is unique in that it is loaded with garlic and sauce. Very tasty and not like the usual edamame in other places. We love the Agadashi tofu in broth. You would never believe you're eating tofu. We then had the softshell crab - TO DIE FOR!! We share the black cod and it was wonderful. Our server, Kelly, was terrific as was all the servers in attendance. She was fun, helpful and made excellent suggestions. You will not be disappointed in this restaurant.
