Usually we have an amazing experience there, but this time the service was slower than usual and it took a long time to get the food, to get water refill, etc. I had also asked on the reservation online for a birthday cake or dessert for my best friend and nothing was brought…
Great service - attentive and professional
Location - views from upstairs patio are the best in SB!!
If you can, ask for a table on the upper dining deck. The views are incredible!
The service was good excellent. When I let them know it was our anniversary dinner they seated us on the rooftop!! It was a great start to an awesome meal!
The sushi is made with fresh flavorful ingredients. There are some new interpretations standard Japanese dishes--I am thinking of the Wagyu beef gyoza--that work very well. the cocktails were also very good.
Don’t come here for sushi or sashimi or anything with sushi rice. Rice was hard and cold. Seemed undercooked and improperly flavored. Not very sweet. Kitchen food was very good. Great ambience and superb service. Horrible flavor profiles on fish. Presentation is meaningless if the food is less than mediocre. Sauces were redundant and boring. $250 for 2 and we had a couple of drinks. Way overpriced. Tasted like well presented all you can eat sushi.
Always a great experience: creative sushi rolls & drinks and the staff are always pleasant and knowledgeable!
Great location across from the beach with top-notch service and creative Asian-fusion dishes and A+ sushi. Ambience is relaxed yet sophisticated. Highly recommend.
Okay is a great addition to the ocean front dining scene in Santa Barbara. The view was outstanding and the service (despite post lockdown staffing shortages) was really great. The overall dining experience was also very pleasant. I would just encourage this restaurant to up the quality of their sushi selections. I fully understand that supply and other shortages come into play at this time. We will definitely be back!
Excellent menu choices. Food was prepared well and seafood was very fresh. Creative foods and cocktails. Great meal for the 4 of us to enjoy outdoors with safe table spacing.
Crowded but lively. Service was leisurely, relaxing dining environment in front of the restaurant. Good use of outdoor space and safe environment for dinner following COVID Rules and regulations. Highly recommend for a great Asian dining experience.
Great experience, great food, great service
Great ambience with a view of the ocean if you are lucky enough to get a table on the second floor patio. Reservations are a must to get seated exactly where you want. Restaurant staff are all very friendly and professional. Food is very tasty even though the menu is not very extensive which was ok. We ordered the noodles with shrimp, spicy fried rice with shrimp, gyoza, and edamame. Specialty drinks were an added treat of mouth watering happiness. We will definitely return again and again when we are in town to visit.
This place is WAY overrated. Fish was mediocre and service was atrocious. The only staff who was pleasant was the nice Asian woman behind the bar. Everyone else was incredibly pretentious which I would understand (I suppose) if the food was actually good. You can get the same quality fish at the mall food court. Recommend Sakana in Montecito or Arigato instead.
Service was good but sushi was not best I have had unfortunately.
Good food and atmosphere
Always a great spot for dinner! Love the Yellowtail Carpaccio with garlic ponzu - wings to start off and now a brand new Sav Blanc from New Zealand. Tina and her crew have it wired!
Great drinks and wonderful server who was able to assist with dietary requests. Can’t wait to return sushi rolls were amazing
Oku is an excellent place for sushi lovers. It combines fresh fish, imaginative menu, great service and a pleasant ambience.
Amazing service, great table location (outside facing the ocean and pier) and fantastic food.
The food was amazing, especially the local uni !
Aside from certain food items being a bit overpriced, I had a nice experience. Drinks were great, the food was delicious, nigiri was fresh, the staff was nice & very helpful. Maybe it's because of the location of the restaurant, & Santa Barbara being a tourist attraction, I felt that as a person visiting, it felt unnecessary to have overpriced items if the people already know that the food is going to be amazing.
Food was just OK.. Nothing to write home about. Made a reservation for my wife and I, went to check in at the hostess stand and they said to give them about 5/10min to get the table ready. We waited about 10min, and somebody came out to ask my name again and if we had a reservation. I said yes we have a reservation and gave him my name.. He said to hold on just a second.. Not more than 30 seconds later the same person came out and called my name, but took another party of 2 instead. I thought hm, that's weird. Maybe there's another party of 2 under the same name? Surely he couldn't have forgotten in the span of under 1min who he talked too and what my name was. We waited a few more mins and noticed other parties checking in and being sat right away. I checked in with the hostess and sure enough, they gave our table inside away to another party. They sat us on the sidewalk, and the other party who took our table had a nice spot inside.. We were annoyed, but it is what is is. While dining outside one of the speakers from the makeshift patio fell and almost landed directly on one of the child's heads at the table next to us. They obviously haven't up kept it and were very lucky it narrowly missed his head. On top of that, the table to the other side of us had a gentleman who would continually get up and light a doobie which was strong enough for the entire outdoor patio to smell. All in all, it was quite an experience. Would we give it a second chance? Sure, but it's definitely not on the top of our list to revisit anytime soon.
Great food and great people watching.
Excellent food in a beautiful location
Menu features a diverse selection of Japanese dishes.
Nice food, amazing service, will come next time again
2nd time going and always great
Amazing food and view as we sat upstairs on the terrace. Our server, Keegan was top notch as he walked us through the menu and was attentive the entire meal.... Thanks Keegan and Oku as we had a great meal!
Food was delicious and our waiter was terrific!
Our servers were excellent and very attentive after a 45 minute delay in getting seated for an 8 o’clock reservation
The hot food, Korean cauliflower, shrimp fried rice, shrimp Ramen were excellent. The sushi rolls were adequate however they were beautifully presented but nothing to write home about
The desserts and the Japanese sodas were fun and festive and tasty.
We rarely go out to dinner and this was a very pleasant evening
I would recommend they add a lemon to the tapwater served at the table to cover the taste of the hard Santa Barbara water
Great location but overall the food was less than enjoyable !
Service was fair to poor- they were short staffed. Everything took forever to get . We didn’t get seated for a half an hour and then our drinks took another twenty minutes to get. The food was delicious once it arrives. Overall, it was disappointing for the money spent
Grate food grate service
Clean and comfortable
Beautiful view to the ocean
Friendly casual fun place in the Funk Zone by the beach, along a strip of restaurants drawing a nighttime crowd with families or on dates all out for a good time. The cocktails were beachy fun. The wagyu/crab gyoza with truffle oil was outstanding, apparently their own creation and definitely a success. The nigiri was fresh and good, bigger pieces than we are used to -- in particular we found the toro a bit questionable. They called it "belly" tuna but it wasn't o toro. The maki was a little loose in the roll and less successful. The edamame was flavored with an interesting sauce if not entirely to our taste, but we ate it all. The service was attentive but by committee -- compliments to the waiter/bartender who recommended a lovely local wine. We had a good time, you can't beat the location, and the ambience was chill and welcoming. It's not in the top tier of Japanese cuisine, but it might be in the top tier for a drink-y restaurant on the beach!
Celebrating a career change!
This is the greatest restaurant I've ever been to. Took my girlfriend for her birthday and it was a fantastic experience. Their gyoza is a must-buy, and the yakisoba is incredible as well. We plan on making the 5+ hour drive back to Santa Barbara soon with the express purpose of dining here again.
This was our second time here we move it here good atmosphere good energy and good food and your Santa Barbara residence. 👍
Amazing food- must order the A5 wagyu gyoza and rising sun cocktail (bourbon)!! I came alone and the hostess offered me an amazing spot on the rooftop with a couch love seat (thanks girl!) The wait was a bit long for each item ordered but it’s expected on a bustling Sunday evening. Thanks to the staff for a great dinner!
Sushi was fresh and excellent quality. The wine list had identifiable fine wines from which to choose. An overall pleasant experience.
Great restaurant sitting upstairs with an ocean view! Friendly staff! Good food!
Great date spot on the beach! Food is amazing. Be prepared to spend a bit of money for two people but if you are treating yourself it is one of the best
