Wonderful local restaurant. Food was great with emphasis on Korean, Japanese and Chinese flavor. Homemade sauce and everything was fresh. Definitely will be back.

My partner and I had a 6:45 reservation on Sunday, July 20th. We arrived a few minutes early and were seated promptly. Service was excellent overall. We had a good time and would return. We ordered: 1. Hiramasa 2. Onigiri 3. Crispy potato 4. Ssam 5. Bap Overall, the food was solid, though we noticed some kinks (perhaps attributable to early opening kinks). More detail below: The hiramasa felt like it was missing something—perhaps the smoky flavor wasn’t pronounced enough or the ponzu too mild. The onigiri was solid. The tartare on top was quality, and the rice was fried well. Nothing amazing flavor-wise, but good eating. The crispy potato was cooked perfectly. We wished the curry mayo had a stronger curry kick—it could be reworked. The kalbi in the ssam was well cooked, but the kimchi tasted like a young ferment and lacked depth. The bap was solid, though perhaps a bit too gochujang-forward.

The service was impeccable! Everybody did a wonderful job. And the food was quite good, although the popcorn chicken was a bit salty, and the chocolate dessert did not have a whole lot of chocolate flavor. But these are small quibbles based on our entire meal.

Everything was delicious, service was quick, friendly, and professional. Dining room was quite loud and crowded, and our 8-seat communal table felt just a bit too tight for the number of patrons.

One of the best meals I have had in Oakland in a long time! I love Ok's Deli and new this was going to be great but it blew me away! Great food, great service and reasonable prices! Can't wait to go back!

The space is modern yet cozy, probably the most chic of the various eateries that have tried to be successful here. Service was friendly. Dishes were artful, and some delicious. Price is perhaps too high for frequent visits as a causal neighborhood joint.

Fabulous. The food was delicious! The service was attentive but unobtrusive. The staff were very friendly and informative about the food and wine pairing. We will return.

This was our second time here and we couldn't resist staring with the wonderful cabbage salad again. We tried a couple of new things as well: the smoked sashimi, beautifully presented in a light and flavorful broth, and the dumpling soup. The soup was a bowl of treasures, with very nice dumplings, a perfectly cooked egg just short of jammy, and chewy noodles. The broth was rich and flavorful, a touch on the fatty side, and could have been hotter (i suspect the egg and noodles are cooked ahead and cool it down a bit.) Wonderful wine list, and the service is attentive and warm without being overbearing. We're so happy to have Oken in our neighborhood!
