I wasn’t sure what to expect at a hotel restaurant in the lobby, but we were greeted and waited on by Tommy who was very friendly. We ordered some cocktails, the bowl Cobb salad and the tacos, all were amazing! Would definelty come back!
This place is completely overpriced for their terrible food - the $15 chicken pops were pushed-down wings that had been re-fried (as in made once, then made again) and were tough and tasteless, the $21 burger was served rare when I ordered it medium then came back the same way, my date had the ravioli which were under-cooked and cold and the drinks were overpriced, as well, and all while sitting in the bright lobby of a hotel (which isn't listed on OpenTable). Overall a bad experience and wouldn't recommend it to anyone unless you're looking to get ripped off.
Went there for brunch, the Quiche Lorraine was amazing. Also recommend the lobster Benedict.
Very good experience! Great food and excellent service. Also has a kids menu
Set in center of lobby , service and food great today . Seated right away but don’t think wait staff looked at reservation book as many seats available .
Loved the signature cocktails and the lobster roll was one of the best and largest I’ve had . Clam chowder was tasty too . Would recommend for lunch .
We came here after attending Downton Abbey exhibit across the street at the castle. Restaurant has a nice hotel lobby vibe. Like the menu although a bit overpriced.
Service was not great. Salad ordered with dressing on the side arrived with dressing on it.
One small pot of hot water for 4 people . And $5.00 each for a cup of tea?
Food was good but quite overpriced.
Would not recommend
Went there for mother's day brunch and it was a very underwhelming experience. The ambiance is the only good thing there. The service is specially poor. I was expecting a higher class service for such a location.
Off the Common was great! We had a slight issue, but it was taken care of quickly. The Chef and Sous Chef catered to our needs and even came out to check on us. They went above and beyond. I would visit again.
My husband and I took our two grandsons (ages 10 & 12) to Off The Common while staying at the Park Plaza. I would have preferred a few more vegetarian options, but my husband ordered the flatbread and I ordered the ravioli and we split them up. They were both very good. The kids had been eating too many fries on our trip, so we asked to substitute soup for the fries with their burger. There was an upcharge, but very worth it. Both boys enjoyed the tomato bisque. It's sometimes hard to find a good family restaurant that's reasonably priced while traveling, and we found Off The Common fit the bill.
Service was slow and not as attentive as expected
Food was very good but we had the rudest waiter who wouldn't stop rolling his eyes at us and as if we were bothering him every time we asked for something, like a steak knife for my steak! His name started with a B, cant remember it. The busboy did more for us than the waiter.
We were skeptical about a restaurant located basically in the lobby of the hotel, but it was cold out and we opted to stay in and give it a try. it was our anniversary and right off the bat we were met with a friendly congratulations and shown to a quiet table where we were greeted with complimentary champagne. The staff couldn't have been more pleasant and efficient, our entire meal was well presented and delicious and we left feeling like we had definitely made the right choice. Thank you!
Cannot actually take a reservation for any table larger than four.
I read all the reviews before going there and I figured maybe we would have a different experience but everything we read was spot on. With all the other options in the area it was probably not worth it. everyone was very nice but the service was very poor and we were laughing about how accurate most of the reviews were.
2nd time at On the Common, choose this venue, first time service was impeccable, today, table was unclean, reserervations for 3, only 2 place settings on the table, love the Park Plaza, disappointed with this visit service was subpar, Sunday brunch was over 15 minutes after our arrival, they did extend it for us, that was very nice of the Host, no water glasses and no one offered us water either, i will return for brunch, I'm guessing that this was my one bad expirence, im hoping it won't happen again, my husband was offered the menu and was charged buffet price, that was a nice gesture and greatly appreciated.
Menu was reduced to half of what was shown on line. Overpriced. Boring.
Loved our family dinner here. We did not know what to expect due to mixed reviews but wanted to try their fish and chips.
Dinner was fantastic. Thank you! We will be back.
The lobster eggs Benedict was delicious!
SO LOUD. It's in a hotel lobby, which takes some people by surprise.
Had breakfast recently with friends. A pretty, small area off the lobby of the Park Plaza Hotel. There was a buffet, but we decided to eat off the menu. Two people had corned beef hash with eggs; they said the hash was homemade and very good! I had an omlette; very tasty with great potatoes and homemade bread. Unlimited refills on beverages (including juices)!. There is some noise because of the location, but we could still hear each other talk.
For a hotel option, the food was fine but the service was dismissive at best. The waiter truly couldn’t be bothered. And PLEASE don’t clear a plate while the Patron is still chewing.
Overall good / waiter forgot water - after I asked for it
This is the worst place that I have eaten in all of my trips to Boston. Overpriced and horrible service.
Horrible hotel food! Very expensive , many good restaurants around the hotel to choose from, go elsewhere .
Good location, poor/limited menu... ambiance is nice
It was a busy convention weekend at the hotel where this restaurant is located. They didn't have a table for us when we arrived at our reservation time. They did finally manage to get something for us after about 20min. Service was slow and food was average. The staff was very friendly when we interacted wth them.
We went to see a show and have appetizers before hand. It was fun.
The lobby of the Park Plaza is flexible, informal dining/bar space. Booked for the Christmas Day meal special, staying right in the hotel for the day. Flavorful menu...delicious sweetcorn ravioli, partner had traditional Christmas fare inc. sticky toffee pudding. lovely staff.
I am required to write a review since I am rating this experience one star. The service was so poor it ruined the entire experience for us. The waitress essentially ignored us and was terse in her interactions with us when we finally got to interact with her. It was lively but not busy. Management was either poor or nonexistent. We were seated at a dirty table and never received a setup until after we were finally served our meal. The sliders were poor. The tomato soup and grilled cheese was reasonably good, although over seasoned. The poor experience adversely affected our experience with the food.
The manager surprised us with a Birthday Dessert based on my reservation with Open Table. Service was great, we had drinks and dessert after a show.
The manager was very friendly and professional but our server was frequently missing. The food was really average. Drinks were good. We like the bar and might go back for a drink, but too many other good food options around to go back.
Bad placement for a restaurant --too distracting/busy!
Service was slow and not very good. Meal came out cold, water never served, forgot toast and when it came it was burnt, over easy eggs over cooked, and pancakes dry. Servers never check on us, we had to flag people down every time we needed something. Hotel bathroom needed to be cleaned. Over all not impressed and I will not be returning.
Buffet brunch closed at 11:30 on Sunday morning , which is ridiculous. Food types could have been more diversified than what was there. But closing at 11:30 on a Sunday morning is the pits. Everything else can be overlooked but this early closure is a non-starter. Not worth the Monet.
OpenTable needs a new category: Great for Grandmas. The restaurant is pretty overpriced; food at lunch was very good; breakfast/brunch was just OK (the bagels were what Calvin Trillin calls "round bread"). But it's a pleasant, quiet place just south of Boston Common/Public Garden to meet friends and/or family, have a meal, and talk. The hotel lobby space is open, airy, and rather grand, but the tables are intimate enough to have an enjoyable conversation. And the service is very nice. It's not in my top ten, but I wouldn't hesitate to come back.
Great hotel lobby renovation!
Great hotel bar and restaurant.
First I read the menu online which was a mistake because I was really looking forward to a cheese plate and a charcuterie plate which were not on menu at the restaurant. My salmon arrived in an necessary deep bowl which made it difficult to eat a flaky fish. The salmon was greasy and the mushrooms were rubbery. A very disappointing meal. On the bright side, my husband loved his steak with chimichurri.
David was an outstanding server! Great personality, great service, great recommendations.
We chose Off the Common because of its proximity to the Theater District. My mother, daughter and I were very impressed with the vibe of the cool seating areas and the service was impeccable. Being off the lobby of the Park Plaza, there seemed to be a lot of groups cutting through the restaurant on their way to some other destination. There was a server redirecting them, but it was a little frustrating.
Our food was wonderful from the calamari to the beignets for dessert. I look forward to returning for a date night with my husband.
