Odyssey Italian Restaurant & Wine Bar
Was expecting better. My friend had veal piccata and I had veal Marsala, and we agreed that the food was mediocre and would describe it as “homestyle”
First time, very good. This restaurant serves food from southern Italy (Sicily) , so expect a different type of Italian food. I wish the plating was more organized, they overloaded the plate with too many veggies. Other than that it was a very pleasant dinner.
We made a reservation for 5:30pm a week before the night. We arrived about 10min early. The place didn't seem too busy but we weren't seated until 6pm. Pretty disappointed for our first time with the service to start off. The hostess offered us 2 glasses of Prosecco because we complained but that really didn't seem to make up for the long wait. The server was also very off putting. He was not very friendly and was clearly distracted and not very attentive to our needs. We just had some strange interactions with him. Food was great. All the pasta was $8.95 and came with bread and a salad. The pasta was just delicious and satisficed us. We also each had a glass of wine and 2 desserts.
The place was perfect! I hardly come by good italian food in Denver (I’m from NY) and this place made me so overwhelmingly happy. The ambiance was romantic and the food was to die for. Food and drink options for everyone. I ordered classic spaghetti and meatballs and the red sauce was everything I could ever hope for. Thank you!!!
We have dined at Odyssey numerous times, and they have never failed! Excellent food, superb service, great pricing. We will recommend and be back.
Stop searching and start eating at this Denver gem. I’ve been searching all over Denver for a classic red Italian meal and finally found my home here. Have the Minestrone to start off with while you dip freshly house made bread in olive oil and red wine vinegar with Italian spices and fresh garlic. Grab one of their Sicilian specialties like the incredible Chicken Parmigiana or Chicken Piccata and top it off with one of the many house made desserts. Umm umm good!
I think this is the fourth time we've eaten at Odyssey and have never been disappointed. We stopped in for an early dinner before going to a movie at the Mayan. We split the Fried Calamari as a starter and it was quite good, especially the sauce. For our mains, my wife ordered Red Trout on Cedar which she liked, but especially enjoyed the sides (asparagus and potatoes). I had an excellent Fettuccine Carbonara, that I would order again in a second. We washed it all down with a couple glasses of Borgo Scopeto, a very nice Chianti Classico. The ambiance and friendly feeling is alway present at Odyssey, but our server, Rae, was special. She always had a smile on her face, anticipated our every need and simply made a good meal perfect. Thank you, Rae.
Linsey one of the finest and most professional and outstanding and cordial server I have ever experienced ! She is Amazing - give her a raise! I would definitely come back just bc of her incredible service - and the food was delicious !! 😃
The food, atmosphere, and staff are all wonderful. An absolute treat, and love taking friends and family here when they're in town.
Exceptional service, great food, prices weren’t that bad for the quality of food. We were there early so it was quiet, but once at capacity I can imagine it being pretty loud. Overall we will be back and highly recommend!
Very authentic Italian cuisine. The service was quite good. It is kind of noisy, the music is too loud.
This was a disappointing 3rd visit -- service was exceedingly fast, eating the appetizer and the salad appeared, barely started the salad and main courses appeared. It was crazy. Why put the 4 of us at a table you obviously needed an hour later?
Waiter, Mario, is an old (1980’s) friend from the Brown Palace Hotel. He took excellent care of our party and was most helpful explaining menu items and with wine recommendations. One of the best dining experiences my friends and I have had in Denver in a long time.
Vela licata and Vela marsala were fabulous as was the salmon packet with Ives etc. And the desserts were tempting and delicious. Service was unobtrusive but excellent. We will definitely go back!
We made a reservation for 7:30 on Monday. We arrived a bit early (around 7:15), but 7:30 came and went. We weren't seated until 8:00, so we were furious. Mondays are busy nights because of the pasta deals, but we've never been made to wait like that. You guys have to stop accepting so many reservations if you can't actually accommodate those reservations. We were quite upset by the time we were finally seated, which was unfortunate, because we were there to celebrate a special occasion, and the last thing we wanted was to be frustrated. However, after being FINALLY seated, the rest of the night was great. We had a lovely server who brought us prosecco on the house for our trouble, and the quality of the food was great, as per usual. She also brought us a special treat at the end because we were celebrating--very kind. So we will continue to come back to Odyssey for the great food and service, but you seriously HAVE to get better with reservations/timing, or we might have to find a new favorite Italian place.
Everything was perfect and food was delicious
Went here for a birthday and was not disappointed. If you love old school Sicilian Italian this place will rock your taste buds off!
We had an 'early' reservation at Odyssey, thinking it might be easier to find parking. Alas, we had to drive around for 20min before finding a spot within 2 blocks of the restaurant. Once there we had an opening martini which had too much vermouth, despite having ordered it 'very dry'. We ordered crab cakes, gnocchi, and osso buco for diner. The gnocchi was slightly off menu, in that we asked if they could do it with sage and butter, as we had often had in Italy. The owner assured us that it was not a problem. Unfortunately, when it came, it was dry (little if any butter) and the sage tasted burned. The osso buco was delicious and the crab cakes were very good, but definitely not any lump crab. For desert I wanted some chocolate mousse, but when it came it was merely mousse between layers of cake. The mousse was disappointingly not very chocolatey. A rather disappointing experience overall for a restaurant we have eaten at many times.
Best Italian food I have tried in Denver. First time going food was great will def make this place the it spot for good Italian food.
My wife and I dined for the first time at Odyssey Italian Restaurant this past Saturday evening. What a great dining experience. Our waiter, Mario, was very attentive throughout the meal. We ordered appetizers and entrees, and all were absolutely delicious and the quantities were large. We had a wonderful bottle of Brunello di Montalcino that was on special for only $65. We will be returning soon and there were any number of additional menu items that we want to explore.
Excellent Food...best Italian in Denver! Great service staff.
Our server and food were both above average. The ambiance decor is fun and very Italian. Our issue was that, with our later evening reservation, it seemed like most of the staff was already “off the clock” - very casual acting, no concern for what they were saying and doing (unprofessionally) in the dining room. Their behavior completely spoiled what could be a romantic environment.
We had a wonderful experience at Odyssey Italian Restaurant New Year's Eve. Even though they were very busy, the service was excellent and there was no delay in being served. It was a very festive atmosphere with decorations and hats for everyone. The food was excellent. The owner, bartender, and waiters who have served us in the past came up to greet us and wish us a Happy New Year. This was a great way to start the new year.
New Years Eve... third visit and they did not disappoint! Great food and service. Best Lamb Shank in town! Pastas were fantastic. Will definitely go again.
New Year’s Eve: the restaurant gave complimentary Prosecco on arrival, and cute hats and noisemakers for fun. The food was superb, as always in our experiences there. We always feel recognized and welcomed. Love this place!
We had dinner here a year ago and it was delicious, so when we were looking for a place to have dinner on New Year's Eve, we decided to go back. We were so disappointed! They clearly aren't doing much cooking or baking from scratch. The bread literally came out of a bag from Sam's or Costco! We watched them take it out of the bag, dip it in butter (Or something oily), toss it in a small oven and throw grated cheese and dried parsley on top. It wasn't anything like Italian bread, more like a an enriched dinner roll. I should have paid more attention to the description and reviews of the carbonara, because it was definitely more Alfredo than carbonara, but overly gooey and heavy even for Alfredo. I barely touched it. My wife had the lobster fra diavolo with gnocchi. The lobster was chewy and the gnocchi was not fresh either. Why even serve gnocchi if you aren't going to make it? We skipped dessert because we had seen it come out of boxes and weren't willing to spend more money on food that wasn't fresh or made in house. It feels like this restaurant is the kind that ends up on Restaurant Impossible, where they are about to go under largely because they are cutting corners to save money and need to be rescued. It's sad, but we will not be back.
1/4/20 - Update
I received an unbelievably offensive message from the restaurant today. I believe their comment is public, but when I responded it said mine was not, so I'm adding it here:
I'm offended that you are dismissing our experience. It is not a good policy to assume that someone who has a poor experience at your restaurant is not a real customer. You can look at your reservation system to see that my wife and I dined with you that night. We were seated at the top of the stairs with a clear view of the prep kitchen behind us. My wife was able to take a picture of the bags of rolls on the shelf above the counter. Mario provided excellent service.
My name is Ignazio, the owner and chef of Odyssey. We work diligently to exceed our guests' expectations for quality of food & service. As seen in other reviews, the experience New Year's Eve was a great celebration for our guests. I am concerned this review may have been placed by a previous disgruntled employee and this may be fabricated. A normal review doesn't address how we source food or how we should produce dishes. We stand behind the experiences of the other reviewers that night.
Family in town
One of our favorite places. Always outstanding service and food!
Atmosphere is wonderful. Food is amazing. Service is great. Owner is friendly and engaging. Our friends loved everything. Odyssey is one of our favorite restaurants anywhere.
We booked the Odyssey two years ago Christmas Eve 2017 and we all came away with a just "okay". However, this Christmas Eve 2019 really shined. Our waitress Ann(a) as well as all of the logistics/staff were on top of their game. They were prepared for lots of people and had a level of confidence and "know-how". Our party of four, ordered two lasagna's with one spaghetti with meatballs and one veal parmesan. The marinara sauce was crisp and fresh. I tasted each of the meals and they were all well seasoned and savory. The evening left us very happy about our choice and everyone complimented the experience. Rarely with my family do I get a thumbs up from everyone. This will be my go to Italian restaurant in the future.
Food and service were very good, except for very tough veggies. My Calamari was Very Good.....lightly breaded and very tasty. The Osso Buco was yummy and quite substantial. One of the better entrees I've had. My husband's veal was also quite good. I was disappointed in the quality of my Manhattan, but it didn't ruin the dinner.
Atmosphere was very festive. Noise level was tolerable. This was our 2nd time there, and would go again.
Best Italian around!
There were five of us, my mom is 92 and they lead us up 2 narrow flights of stairs, put us in a VERY cramped room. The waiter was not friendly, made us all feel uncomfortable - zero sense of humor. My wife asked about their white wine, he pointed at the menu and said here is the cheap white wine!!? We love good Italian food and have had it in may cities, and at many restaurants in Denver - this was one of the worst Italian food meals we have had. My sons parmesan chicken was floating in a watery sauce and the chicken was dry. My clams in the fettuccine dish were not all cleaned correctly and had sand in them, plus the sauce was flavorless and watery, my mom hated the lasagna, it was too cheesy and soupy, my daughter has salmon which was way over cooked as was the asparagus, everything was HORRIBLE! I would never recommend this place to anyone and will NEVER go back...
Holiday dinner with family
Food was very good, but restaurant was very crowded for a Wednesday night. Enjoyed everything anyway. Definitely would recommend if you are looking for a small, intimate gathering. Parking is scarce however, so be prepared to walk a distance or to Uber.
Such a special place. Food is not ordinary.
We come down from Loveland CO.
Try it, you’ll like it👍🏻
Love the experience we always have at this restaurant. The owner always makes it special! The food is great. I starve myself before I go so I can eat every morsel that’s on my plate it’s so good!
One of the best meals I’ve had in a long time. Everything was spot on.
Odyssey has been one of our favorite Italian spots in Denver for years, but this experience left a lot to be desired. From the unfriendly hostess to the inattentive waiter, poor service across the board.
The food was still delicious though!! Unfortunately there are a lot of great Italian spots with better service and we likely will not be back.
