I used to be a regular patron of Odeum. After the public debacle of getting caught switching talapia for sea bass and over charging patrons, I was hesitant to go back to this restaurant. Since there are limited options for brunch in Morgan Hill, I booked Odeum for my mom's birthday to give it a try. Maybe it's just the Sunday morning staff, but service was very sub par for the prices charged. The kids working there were doing their best, but are just not very experienced. Service was slow, our food came out at different times, which made some cold, some luke warm. The eggs benedict was just so-so, my hollandaise sauce is better. I could tell the sauce on the french toast had been microwaved, because as soon as it started to cool off it turned to a hard sticky mess and very chewy.
The waiter worked super hard because he was the only one in our entire section. The problem was the food server - when he delivered our soup he tipped the bowl as he set it down and stuck his thumb in it. That's gross. And then you couldn't find anyone to come back to take it away and get a fresh one without the thumb for 10 minutes. The waiter certainly felt the heat on his thumb and knew what he did and ran away. We had only ordered appetizers at that point (which were very very good), but that caused me not to order an entree.
Our lunch was delicious. Gyros salad was plentiful with several pieces of gyros. The salad dressing was fresh. We ordered dessert the MILLE-FEUILLE which we were disappointed in. Too big, could feed 4 people easily. The disappointment was it did not taste as good as the description did. And it was was pricey. $15 for a dessert is pricey. Actually all their desserts where pricey. Would return just not have dessert.
Always better with just 2 than a group! The wine list has a hidden gem!
My wife and I celebrated our 15th wedding anniversary here. It was our first time and we have been wanting to come here since we moved to Gilroy 3 years ago. The restaurant is nice inside and we were greeted immediately. The ambiance of the restaurant is not one recommended for children but there was a small child there. It’s definitely a date night place. It was pretty loud, to the point it was hard to hear each other at times. The service was not bad but was fast. I didn’t feel the server was incredibly empathetic or sincere. Everything is grilled, even the spanikopota. Ours was burnt. We sent it back once and it came back the same. Our server not only comped that dish but gave us another. Everything else was flavorful and we enjoyed our night.
Dinner was fantastic.
Very busy on a Saturday night, but Open Table reservation got us seated right away.
We ordered an appetizer and pizza for dinner (delicious!). Appetizer took a long time because it was so busy. Waiter was on top of it, though, and gave us regular updates.
There was a beetle tucked away I n my husband’s salad and he didn’t even uncover it until he was almost done eating it!! and all we got was a “sorry, the produce is REALLY fresh!” We didn’t have to pay for the salad, but I felt they should have done more or said more...no manager appearance or glass of wine on the house...we almost left but I didn’t want to be dramatic...I just checked every inch of my food! Won’t come back here again, probably....
Great imaginative food. Great presentation. Slow slow service.
Third time here in the last month. The menu is broad and everything has been well prepared. Service has been solid.
Waitress was also bartender and didn’t have time to establish rapport or help with menu questions.
So some fun lost there.
Place and food good - will go back
Food was amazing. Had Sunday Brunch. Service was slow. Asked for coffee 3 times. Finally got a second cup about the time we finished our food.
A few different friends had recommended this restaurant and I couldn't wait to try it out. Unfortunately, my first visit was a little disappointing. Both times we ordered a round of drinks for the table, it took a very long time. For the second round, we had to ask about the drinks again (about 20 minutes after we ordered them), and then we saw the bartender start to make them. For my meal (with three other guests), I had ordered the lamb chops which were supposed to come with spinach and garlic risotto. I asked for the lamb to be cooked medium rare. Once our four entrees were delivered to our table, I noticed that my lamb was served with small diced fried potatoes, so I had to tell our waiter "Wasn't this supposed to come with garlic risotto? That's one of the reasons I ordered it." By the time he came back with the risotto, I had had a chance to cut into my lamb and it was cooked medium well to well done, so I had to return it. By the time my meal was redone, everyone else at the table had finished their entrees, so I had to eat mine alone (and ended up just taking the majority of it home with me). For that inconvenience, we weren't offered anything as an amenity... no comp'd lamb entrée, no free dessert, not even a free coffee afterwards. The food WAS good, but it was a long wait to get anything and the service was just so so.
Service was horrible,
Some food was very tasty other dishes felt like they were trying to hide ingredients that were not drag.
This wasn't our first visit to Odeum. Six friends and family were celebrating a birthday...ages 36 to 78 years old. We had a reservation. We were seated just inside the door and next to the kitchen food plating area...drafty and noisy. My thought is that there should be NO TABLE in this area.
The chairs are very uncomfortable..hard straw or reed seats with the tops
of the chair legs poking above the seats. Our waiter was friendly, but he did not pay much attention to our table. Food was not delivered in a timely manner. Portions were generous, however, and the food was very tasty. Dessert was extremely skimpy and the eighth of a tablespoon of espresso gelato had no noticeable sugar in it. it was sitting on a tiny bit of meringue that was too hard to eat. Also, it took an hour to get the one order of espresso and when it came, it was decaf instead of regular espresso. The restaurant does not have its own restrooms. The restrooms "belong to the building" and are outside of the restaurant. They are disgusting, shabby, dirty and there was no toilet paper and there were no paper towels. The waiter basically said it wasn't the restaurant's problem.
Enjoyed our meal. The polipo (spelling?) was excellent. Would have ordered it as a main! And the Portuguese cupcake dessert was extraordinary - heavenly! The restaurant was recommended to us by a local as we were only in town for 3 nights. Had a great server who gave good recommendations. It's small and cozy and would go back if we were in Morgan Hill again.
This was our first time going to brunch here, which was great.
The food was excellent and the prices were reasonable, except for dessert, which was quite pricey.
The food was delicious, but service and noise level unacceptable. Someone in the kitchen was pounding meat to tenderize it!!! And our service was poor--had to do an arm wave to get a refill on a cup of coffee. Staff were congregating at the bar instead of taking care of diners.
The food was delicious as I had Salmon and my friend had grilled chicken skewers. It was not too loud which I appreciated and we had a very nice waiter who was very attentive and didn’t rush us. The presentation of the food matches how delicious it is! The ambiance is just beautiful as well. We will be back for sure!
The place was small and charming. The waitress was friendly and funny. The food was amazing and the dessert was even more amazing.
I was recommended by a good friend to come here for dinner, and the food did not disappoint. The atmosphere is lively and fun, and the decor is well done. My only gripe was the server was just OK. Our drink order seemed to have been forgotten, we were never told about any specials (but overhearing the table next to us with a different server indicated there were specials), and when the desert menu was dropped off he came to pick it up a few minutes later and we had to scramble to say that we did indeed wanted desert. It was kind of a shame since everything else was so good. I'm not a complainer, and seldom point out negative things in a restaurant review, but I thought it was warranted in this case.
This place is excellent! Nothing to complain about; will definitely return
Very high quality food. Friendly, intelligent and knowledgable staff. A little noisy.
My friends filet was VERY overcooked, even after telling our server twice to make sure it was cooked medium. When it arrived it was actually charred on both sides and dark brown all the way through. I don't even know why our server delivered it that way. It was embarrassing! I told her to send it back but she was too uncomfortable to do it. Her meal was also served 5 minutes before anything else came out. Entree's should be timed better. Our stuffed Mexican shrimp was amazing as usual. My husband's pizza was poorly dressed, had very few toppings and the edges were burnt all the way around. His pizza was served at least 5 minutes after all the other entree's arrived. The restaurant wasn't busy as our reservation was for 5:30 on a Sunday night. Again, very poor timing, and an uncomfortable situation waiting for his meal to arrive while all of ours got cold. I will go back eventually but I have concerns about referring them to friends. It's a pricey restaurant and you should get pricey quality food. Overcooked filets and burnt pizza is a no-no...it's a shame to deliver food that way. I should have taken pictures!
Odeum is fantastic as usual.Great food. Polite and timely service. Great attitude of servers and hostesses.
We love this place. We recently discovered it and have been going 3 times a month. It is small and cozy with great service. The menu is awesome and healthy and they always have something amazing as a daily special. We're definitely coming back!
Two nights in a row , over 45 minutes for main course. One dish cold, on dish never showed.after 45minutes. It seems like new ownership. We like this restaurant but the service sucks! They need to get this. Under control.
Odeum Rocks Perfection!
The staff was incredibly helpful and accommodating. I arrived early and sat at the bar with terrific service. My date arrived and we chose to sit outside and it was a little chilly, so the waiter suggested we sit on the porch which was protected from the wind. Perfect.
Our waiter was attentive without being intrusive. Perfect. My wine glass was never neglected. Perfect.
I wanted the scallops, and our waiter pointed out that they were on the appetizer menu, but said he could increase the 2 scallops to 4. Perfect. My date had the Chicken salad, which was excellent. My scallops were not excellent, they were AMAZING. A total party in my mouth! Cooked to perfection, the right amount of sauce and garnish. Perfect.
I live in San Jose, and quite honestly it is totally worth the drive to Morgan Hill for this dining experience. Wrap it around some really great wineries in the area, and it rivals any trip to Napa, except much closer to the South Bay.
Who are they kidding? $49.95 for lamb chops? Two bucks more than Kokkari in SF, $11 dollars more than Dio Deka in Los Gatos and Morgan Hill rival Ladera Grille. Staff is aloof, nothing notable about this restaurant, I think they are on cruise control.
Odeum, the Owner Sal and Chris Ward never fail to please!
There were 3 of us. The ambient was very nice and the food very good. The service was very good as well. Its a fine dining restaurant and pricey accordingly. So for a special occasion or just a fine dinner this is one of the best places to visit in Morgan Hill.
From the moment we walked in to the time we left the service, decor, friendliness, pleasant personalities, and extremely professional service.
The food presentation was inviting, artistic, creative and original.
We had the swordfish appetizer. Every bite was delicious and unique in every way. From presentation to each delightful bite.
Next was the aruegala cucumber salad. I was amazed how the cucumber worked so well with the aruegala. The combined flavor was devine.
Then the luscious, perfectly sheared skirt steak arrived. The aroma alone started up my taste buds. The tenderness and sauce that was drizzled over the top was scrupulous.
The wine, an incredible Paso Robles Cab was a robust, palatable choice for our meal.
The bartender was making artistic original cocktails. I wish I could have tried all of them. That will not be a problem since I live an hour away and plan to return often.
Thank you Odeum for your delicious creative menu.
As we’ve experienced before, Odeum has some amazing food. You can absolutely tell that a Michelin Star caliber chef is at the helm, his flavor combinations and presentation are just amazing! We were there for a Valentine’s Day dinner, so the menu was pre fixe with a few choices for each course. Everything was delicious, but I found one thing kind of annoying. When I made the reservation, I was informed that the menu was pre fixe at $100 per person. Ok, got it. Once we got there, however, several of the entree items had significant “additional” fees if you wanted it. (For example, if you want the Surf & Turf, it’s an additional $25 etc). When they say pre fixe, it should be a set amount. Since there were such limited options to chose from, having several of the 5 or 6 items being an additional charge was really annoying. It felt a little sneaky to me. Maybe that’s standard practice, I don’t do many pre fixe meals due to some food allergies...but I didn’t like that. Other than that, it was a wonderful meal, and we had fun. We will be back during regular service.
Service was very slow.
Our lunch was delicious, a bit skimpy on the portions as I barely had a 4 ounce piece of salmon. For $16.00, it was basically a salad with a tiny portion of salmon. My husband hate chicken on a skewer and there was very little chicken. The presentation of the food was beautiful and the service was good but we both walked away hungry. It would be a nice touch to serve complimentary bread at a fine restaurant like this with the prices they charge?
Just added Odeum to our portfolio of fine restaurants in Morgan Hill. It's got everything the discriminating diner could wish for - intriguing ambiance, exceptional food and attentive staff.
The food was great. My husband ordered steak with grilled vegetables and mashed potatoes and I got a chicken with risotto dish. They were delicious! The food portion was worth the money we paid. Good food good service!
