Odeum Ratings and Reviews
I met a friend for Sunday brunch here and we were fortunate to sit outside in the garden, which was lovely. It took over an hour (!!) to get our food, but we were not in a rush and happy to talk. At the same time, we were not rushed to leave the table after we finished our brunch and sat, enjoying our iced tea, for another couple of hours. When it did arrive, the food was delicious. The servers tried to be attentive re: pouring water or refreshing our drinks, but they seemed scattered. Perhaps short-staffed? I would recommend Odeom to others as long as you are not in a rush and can get a table outside. When I did go to indoors, the restaurant was quite dark and a little stuffy (it felt like it needed more A/C).
Our waiter was very inexperienced & so nervous; it made us uncomfortable. He brought the wrong wine to one of us and a lime instead of a lemon for the cocktail. It was odd that they had the hostess and the bar tender delivering food to the tables. The table next to us (where the bar tender delivered food) had their entree delivered before they were done with the appetizer. She didn't even know what she was delivering and announced it wrong. For the prices they charge, the service should be much more put together. I'm willing to pay these prices, but they need to deliver top notch service to go along with the high prices. I'd go back and hope I don't get the same waiter, or that he has more training by then. The food was good, not fantastic, but I ordred something I don't normally eat . I would try something different next time.
This is the second time that we have had dinner at Odeum. The first time I had Sea Bass, and this time I had Sole with Risotto. Both times the food was delicious! Our last visit this past weekend, we took two friends because we liked Odeum so much the first time. The service was not as good this time, the bartender only asked two of us if we wanted cocktails, and our husbands had to ask. Somehow only three entrees came out and my husband had to wait for his while we politely waited. They said that they gave his steak to the wrong table, but it threw off the timing. Again, the food was great and I am impressed with the chef, but the waiter and bartender seemed less than enthusiastic.
It amazes us that a restaurant with this quality food preparation is in our small town of Morgan Hill.
We have eaten here dozens of times over the years, including several New Years' Eves, and have always had delicious meals and memorable experiences. Odeum is a top notch place and though the prices are high, we feel they reflect the excellent cuisine.
Our server Gerry forgot to put in our dinner order. It took over an hour and fifteen minutes before our dinner arrived. He apologized and offered us coffee that I presume was on the house. However since it was still in the high 80's we didn't want coffee. The whole experience is nothing I would like to repeat.
The second visit was not meeting the first visit's expectation. Service was the key component that was lacking. If the restaurant wants to offer an inventive wine list and tells the diner that many of them are not available that's not the best way to mislead. Then take those wines off the list. Management should keep the list up to date or manage around inventory.
Because of this error in service - the wine didn't come until after the appetizer.
Went here on friend's recommendation for anniversary dinner. Food was excellent. Service impeccable. Only complaint was that it was way too hot in the building. The AC had apparently been out for a few days. No idea what it hadn't been repaired. Also, the background music lent nothing to the experience and was too loud. Finally, the two-person tables are too small. There was not enough room on the table for our dinner plates, bread dishes, and wine bucket.
We enjoyed our first dinner at Odeum. The homeade gnocchi's with filet mignon ragu sauce was out standing as was the fresh parpadelle pasta with seafood sauce. Chef Sal was a pleasure to meet. He was informed we were new to Morgan Hill as well as West Coast and made a special visit to our table and prepared us an awesome dessert as well. Our server, Chris, was effecient, knowledgeable and very personable too. We will definitely be returning to Odeum and will be highly recommending this restaurant to our friends and neighbors! Looking forward to enjoying other gems on Odeum's menu!!
This was our first dinner here, we had been to lunch a few months back. Lamb sirloin entry (kabobs) "Souvlaki" was overdone; Yogurt with it was good and help balance the spices which were heavy in the eggplant.
"Costoletta di Miale" pork cutlet with potato pasta gnocchi was a delight and too much for one person - glad to carry half home.
Compared to our lunch experience, this Friday night was not fun (for us) because the noise level increased, limiting our conversation.
Extremely noisy country music, not condusive to a special dinner. Maitre de did turn it down. First wine ordered was not available, but still on list. Prepared food sat on counter for quite a while before taken to tables. Food mostly good, but some extreme seasoning made one dish weird tasting, unrecognizable. Probably won't go back. Had even worse experiences first time we went when first opened, but many had raved, so we decided to try again. No more.
Overall the experience was great. My wife and I have visited this restaurant many times and I will have to say that food is always amazing. I had their Wild Alaskan King salmon on vegetables with a sweet potato puree. The Salmon was cooked perfectly and sweet potato puree was a perfect compliment to the richness of the fish. My wife had their Toscana pizza which was a perfect pairing for the bottle of red we had. The pizza by far is the best I have tasted in the south bay.
I knew about the restaurant because my art friends show their work there, and they all said the food was upscale and delicious. Every plate was a work of art loaded with flavor. We started with local grown stuffed mushrooms, split a salad of grated brussel sprouts with applewood bacon, then moved onto our entrees of pasta and a roasted pork chop. Each dish was creative with ingredients, plated with skill and hot. We will be back to try the rest of the menu, again and again!
We had eaten lunch at Odeum twice but had never enjoyed dinner until last night. We brought two friends with us to introduce them to the restaurant. All of us were extremely impressed with our meals. The salads were delicious (we tried 3 of the 4), the scallops were cooked perfectly and the waffles with fried chicken were also a hit. The dessert was our least favorite mainly b/c we are not keen about foam toppings. It was a wonderful dinner which began with a well made martini. We wish we didn't have to drive so far but have decided it's worth the trek.
Morgan Hill has a lot of great, upcoming restaurants, but this is the best restaurant in town. The menu changes often and no matter what you order it's going to be a tasty delight. The wine selection is great. Sal, the owner and chef is a wonderful host. If you bring kids, their pizza fits the tide. It's a restaurant that is both romantic for couples and kid friendly.
We enjoyed our food, but my son's pizza was burnt on the bottom and he would not eat it at all. I'm not one to complain, but it would have been nice if the waiter/waitress noticed that my son didn't even finish one piece and asked if the pizza was okay for him.
Other than that, I would go again just to try the other food on the menu.
Loved the entire experience from soup to nuts. Our server, the food, the attention to detail was fabulous! Can't wait to go again. The portion sizes are huge! The only thing is that's it does tend to get very noisy when it's crowded, but other than that... all was exceptional!
While there was nothing "wrong" with our meal, it certainly didn't measure up to the rave reviews previously written.
The service was attentive and friendly, but one ordered item was left off.
The sauces on both the sole and pasta seemed heavy. I lighter hand with that would be south better.
I took my fiancee and I's mothers and a father here after checking out a nearby wedding venue. The food was just delicious. I normally don't like eggplant, but their eggplant dip stuff (had a long name that I can't remember or pronounce) was great. Everyone loved their gyros and the catfish special I had was awesome. Definitely recommended!
I've heard about Odeum and thought I would give them a try. We went on a Sunday evening. We were the only ones there other than a Vietnamese group behind the curtain. After we sat first impression was it was nice and urban. But after a while it was warm and a little noisy with the group behind the curtain and the ambient music. Can't imagine what the noise level would be with more people. The service was first rate. We ordered the shaved Brussels sprouts, it was fabulous; really nice flavors. We also had the pork tenderloin; it was so good I want to visit Greece. Dessert was light and tasty; yum. If it wasn't for the price I would go more often. Honestly if I want to go out to impress this would be a great place for people who love high quality food. For the price I can name a lot of alternatives in SF that are a lot more reasonable with the same level of food quality and better ambiance. Nevertheless I'm impressed and glad we can have a great restaurant in town.
We were a group of 4 indulging in wine, appetizer, entree & dessert. Everything we ordered was outstanding & our server, Jerry, was enthusiastic & attentive. The unpleasant part of our experience was when a large party was seated during our entree. The noise level made it difficult to converse. The noise became unbearable so we hurried through dessert & left.
Odeum has become our favorite Morgan Hill restaurant for lunch. The food is excellent, the service is good, and the atmosphere comfortable and toward casual. The prices go up for dinner--not badly but we're retired--so we go elsewhere for dinner. But food quality justifies the dinner prices. Odeum is a reliable restaurant for very good dining experiences.
We loved everything they brought to the table. The food is extraodinary.
Unfortunately, the service left a lot to be desired. We got there early, and service was ok. As the restaurant became more crowded, we saw less and less of our waiter. At the end we waited 45 minutes just to get our check.
Appetizer was great, dessert was great, filet of sole was really good, skate special was just ok, way too much fish on the plate, not crispy and mashed potatoes were glooey, lamb chops great but the fillet mignon was unedible..tough and chewy, not the melt in your mouth we expected for $50. and it was med rare.... Very disappoiting........Waiter was great, all evening and took it off the bill but the experience didn't leave us with a good evening..we were celebrating 3 of our birthdays too, was expecting a special evening......we are from out of town but might try it again with our fiends who live there...
