During the summer months we will do the best we can to accommodate guests indoors, but we cannot guarantee indoor seating. Look forward to seeing you at Ocotillo Restaurant and Bar.
end of a business trip decompression
Server was sub-par, food was just okay... not as I remembered the last time we were there. With so many other options in the area, I don’t think we will return.
Had a lovely lunch with colleagues and everything we ordered was delicious.
It has potential. Service was terrible. We trekked a distance to get there and were extremely disappointed.
I made a reservation but the server and manager repeatedly hurried us along because they had another reservation following. We were done in 1.5h but it didn’t stop them for repeatedly harassing us. One of the worst service experiences I have ever had. Never returning.
Ribeye steak was perfect. They were busy that night. They had several gatherings going on. The chef sent dessert to our table for the extra wait time. Great experience! Will be back.
I brought my wife and my out of town guests to Ocotillo for a nice dinner and the night couldn't have played out worse than it did. I have been to this restaurant before and had a great experience each time, however they did not perform well for our dinner visit. From bringing the wrong vintage to running out of ingredients left and right, there was less that went according to plan vs them making excuses and needing to apologize. One of the servers dropped a dirty knife in my lap when clearing the table, which was a first. To the credit of the managing chef and service the entire bill was comped, but I don't know if I can trust this place again.
Great food, great service, overall one of the premier spots in Phoenix. The patio is laid back and the ambience is super relaxing.
Delicious food and drinks! A very social atmosphere, fun the meet new people. Be ready to talk to other diners seated near you. 🙂
I booked this for a business dinner as we were in town for a work event from another state. Based on the reviews, I took a risk, and I was happy with the over all experience. The restaurant is beautiful especially the outside area at night. The food was good, but hard to know what you were getting from just reading the menu. Loved the long tables for sharing with random strangers or just a large group of friends.
My party of 4 dined on a very busy Saturday night but we were promptly seated and had great service by our waiter James the entire night. Our cocktails were perfect (Manhattans and margaritas ). The food was absolutely delicious and generous portions. The appetizers of smoked beets with arugula and pecans along with the eggplant meatballs were great. The entrees were equally good with a special nod to the pan seared salmon and the Diver scallops with sweet corn ravioli. Extensive food menu with reasonable prices.
The one downside to this place is the desserts . The pan a cotta was wet and lacked flavor. The chocolate cake we ordered never arrived because it was unavailable yet we were not god until after a long wait of 20 minutes. They substituted for free the ice cream sandwich which was terrible. It was a mush of nothing and lacked flavor. They need to scrap the current dessert menu and try something different. Finally, the one other disappointment was they do not offer decaf coffee, only regular, which is unheard of these days. How much could it cost or be of trouble to brew a pot of decaf?
In summary, go for the food and drinks...leave room for dessert elsewhere.
We had reservations and were led to a picnic table outside which was next to a very large very noisy party. We turned it down and ended up at a table indoors. Our waiter was great suggesting menu selections and providing a satisfactory meal to our gluten free child. Service was good we received our drinks right away and we were not rushed as dinner came at an appropriate interval. We did question a $15.00 charge for a bowl of ice cream for our child and the price was reduced to $5.00.
Ocotillo is a great spot, unpretentious, unique and consistently excellent.
It features creative, eclectic, delicious food, friendly service, and a well curated list of libations.
David is a terrific host, super knowledgeable, and the kitchen regularly updates the menu, while preserving favorites. The variety of seating options indoors and out makes it easy to accomodate a group of any size. This place is another reason that Phoenix is an underrated food town. Ocotillo is a treat.
We loved it! Sat outside. Community seating was fine. Were there during happy hour so tried one thing from that menu and one from standard menu. Everything was excellent.
The Duck was superb! The Dessert was amazing as well!
I use the restaurant quite a bit for business meetings with my downtown associates.
We were a party of 12. We were seated outdoors at a table with a bench on one side where a wedding reception with a DJ was occurring. Several of our party members were young, but a bench is not comfortable for older folks like me. It was a little loud for my taste. Our waitress was stretched, even with a helper, and there were significant delays in service. She realized this and reduced the price of the dinner, which was appreciated.
The food was unremarkable at best. It did not live up to the reviews. The variety of choice was nice, but the execution was not great. For instance, the shaved lamb salad had deli meat slapped on the side of the salad. No dressing was offered. The strawberry salad, on the other hand, was drowning in balsamic. The roasted cauliflower was a massive half of a head of cauliflower. The eggplant “meat?!?!balls” were tasty, but they sat in a pool of creamy grits and looked unattractive. The beef ribs looked black and like we were in a Flintstone cartoon, but were deemed delicious.
Visit from an out of town friend. Went to our favorite restaurant and once again it was outstanding. Sure it was noisy but all those people enjoying themselves will do that!
Food was wonderful as always. We enjoyed a combination of small plates, entrees and desserts. The cauliflower was the star of the show.
The service was poorly timed. With the 1st 2 courses coming out together and then literally imediately after that the main dishes came out. There was no table light, candle or anything. Couldn't see menu. Noise from 3rd Street was bad. View...of a busy street was NOT good. Asked waiter for butter or oil for dry toast with pasta and he got it...after we were finished eating. Pasta was TOO al dente for our taste. The gin cocktail was good though!!
Menu contained more unusual items. Which was good. With an option of many small plates and appetizers, you could opt to just order them or include entrees. We did both options. Eggplant meatballs were delicious. Service was prompt and helpful. Would certainly go again.
For his 26th birthday, our son selected Ocotillo to celebrate. He ordered those massive ribs. Food and service are always top notch! Highly recommended for any occasion!
Outstanding restaurant - excellent food and great service
Took a party of 12 for our anniversary and was a perfect evening
LOVE this restaurant! Beautiful and the food is amazing!
Amazing food and venue tainted by poor service and blaring music
Lunch with my parents. Late, so the restaurant was pretty empty. Great service. The food was fabulous.
Very attentive! Great food!
Service was top notch and the food was delicious. Braised pork shank was very tasty, salmon was great. Drinks were really good. We visit every time we're in Phoenix. We'll be back in December.
First time there - I will be back! Great food, nice ambiance (outside) and very good service.
I had the eggplant and it was wonderful. My husband had the salmon and he loved it. The Riesling was awesome.
Really liked our waiter, he helped us order.
Great food and portion for your money well worth i it definitely will be back
Amazing experience. The round booth by the bar made the experience super romantic. Highly recommend. The owner is so sweet and considerate too.
Great food and service. Would definitely go again.
Visited Ocotillo for the first time for brunch with friends. It's a fun environment with outdoor large tables that provide a spacious feel with the ability to enjoy the nice weather and sunshine. Indoors is a little cooler if the sunshine is making temperatures climb and still is a very nice environment with beautiful scenic pictures of AZ decorating the walls. Very friendly service around the restaurant, clean and well kept, and the food was delicious and filling. I loved the mimosa bottle: a bottle of sparkling wine with juice of your choice for $15. I would come back to try other types of meals offered at this restaurant as well as other drinks.
The food was amazing and the ambience was awesome ; however our hostess was not very accommodating. She had a very negative attitude and continuously corrected my friend on the pronunciation of items on the menu. It was a little unprofessional. I have visited this restaurant five times in the last month. I come back because of food; however the waitstaff is not attentive to everyone equally. It is as if they have certain people that tip astronomically and those are the ones that get good service. However I always give a 20% tip or more so that really shouldn't be an issue.
Next time I will ask for a table with some chairs. I have back problems and sitting on a bench was uncomfortable. Sharing a table was fun.
We had 6:45 reservation for 4. We were seated at the community table and asked to be in the dining room as there were a number of empty tables we were told those tables were reserved. We said we have a reservation and were told they were specifically reserved. Those tables remained empty throughout our time at dinner. That wasnt ok
Food was good and creative. Noise level higher than I like, but not a deal breaker. Our server was wonderful. I really enjoyed it.
Thank you for allowing us to utilize the beer garden in a casual way as we had kids with us. Service and food was excellent as usual. Thanks again!! Angela
Service was very slow. The first and third courses were OK but entrée was marginal.
