Oceanview has been a favorite of mine every time I go back to LA for at least three years now; my go-to place for dining with friends in the La Crescenta area. However, definitely not so hot on the service this time. We went twice, once for Friday dinner and then again for breakfast the next day. Friday night the waitress forgot to put in our order and even after that it was another half-hour wait. Breakfast the next day the food was awfully slow too. And someone at the table next to us commented on it also, so I know it wasn't just us.
However, the food was good when it came. We had a great burger and I forget what else for dinner, tasty, the wine was good, breakfast was good, and they serve good coffee here also.
I was looking forward to their short ribs and they did not disappoint. Despite its name there is not a view of the ocean but there is plenty of parking. It's very close to the quaint main street in Montrose which was used in a few Sons of Anarchy episodes last year.
This should be a neighborhood gem but we have seen it deteriorate for the past few years. We had breakfast this past Saturday and while the pressed coffee never disappoints, we make better omelets at home without the $13.00 per, plus tip price tag. Can't see how it can continue to skimp on what makes a restaurant great - THE FOOD, and continue in business.
Wanna be restaurant with average tasting foods and high school level service.
Example: Hawaiian bbq, beets salad taste like they're from a can. Cioppo broth tastes like Ragu sauce..
This was our second time eating at Oceanview. There is little ambiance. The appetizers were good as was the salad. Our entrees were disappointing. Both were said to be popular dishes. I ordered sesame crusted tuna. It was nicely cooked, however there was no flavor to the fish or rice that accompanied it. I could not eat the cabbage/slaw as it contained red peppers. The second dish was called "baseball," a large round of steak in a mound of potatoes and gravy with a couple of asparagus under the potatoes and gravy.
I live fairly close to this restaurant but had not had the opportunity to try it until this week. A Groupon deal motivated me and the results were spectacular. The meals were excellent, delicious and well-presented. Service was quick, friendly and efficient. I WILL be returning more often and am regretting that I missed this gem for so long!
We've tried this place a few times. Since it's nearby, we wanted it to be a go to place. They try too hard to "elevate" the food. On this visit my seared Ahi had a breaded crust that was awful. We would enjoy simple, well prepared quality food over the dressed up, but not so tasty food we've had.
Food was delicious, with so many options. Our server Patricia was great. Have been here for breakfast, lunch and dinner and would come back again for all. We hadn't been here in a while because service wasn't so great (even though the food was). It was nice to see all new staff with better service.
this is a dog friendy place. they have a nice outside seating area that provides great treats for your pets as you eat a scrumptious meal!
We always enjoy Ocean View Bar & Grill. The service is always very good, and the everyday menu is more than unique and appetizing. Unfortunately, the only reservation we could get for six for Mother's Day was at 1:30 p.m. By then the Mothers Day buffet (one could not order from the menu that day) was pretty well picked over. The Caesar salad was limp and mushy. The potato salad had gobs of extra mayo. Some other offerings in roll top warmers I could not readily identify. The prime rib was ok. The one saving grace was the made-to-order omelets, although my daughters thought too much oil was used. Overall, we were disappointed. As I said, we love this place. We'll continue going there, just not on mid-afternoon on Mother's Day.
The place is lovely, great location & easy parking. The staff is friendly & semi attentive. Drink & wine prices reasonable.
We shared the sizeable salmon & ahi tuna appetizer to start & it was beautifully plated with avocado & eel sauce crispy rice crackers, a good amount of food. We also had the classic burger which was juicy & exactly what you'd expect at a nice bistro.
Great atmosphere & fun place. Music in the bar is just the right volume. A talented guitarist was playing with backing tracks & a mannequin side kick; performing a wide selection of classic rock favorites that had the place singing along.
Fun & good quality..... we'll be back !!!
I've been to this restaurant a couple of times before and always left happy this time was no different. Went with another couple food was good everyone enjoyed their meal. The servers were very attentive and the manager (i think) poured our wine and thanked us for choosing to visit. My only complaint is that we received our salads and about one minute later our entrees were being served. I like to visit and enjoy the meal and not feel like we are in a race to eat. So slow down and let us enjoy the food with a small break in between courses would be better. We will be back again and next time I'll remind the server not to put in the order all at once.
We really liked this place the first few times we went. Food was great, service was good. Not sure what's happened, but I don't think we'll be going back. Pancakes were rubbery and bacon was soft. Too bad.
I was Forced to choose from a set menu. I was not pleased with any of the choices. I ordered a $70.00 Lobster tail that I could have received from the red lobster for 3/4 the price. I think that it would have tasted better.
Would have never expected such great food from this place. The Ambience is below par, but the food is way better than some of the 5 star restaurants. I had the roast duck and it tasted like high quality filet.
