Oceanview has been a favorite of mine every time I go back to LA for at least three years now; my go-to place for dining with friends in the La Crescenta area. However, definitely not so hot on the service this time. We went twice, once for Friday dinner and then again for breakfast the next day. Friday night the waitress forgot to put in our order and even after that it was another half-hour wait. Breakfast the next day the food was awfully slow too. And someone at the table next to us commented on it also, so I know it wasn't just us.
However, the food was good when it came. We had a great burger and I forget what else for dinner, tasty, the wine was good, breakfast was good, and they serve good coffee here also.
I was looking forward to their short ribs and they did not disappoint. Despite its name there is not a view of the ocean but there is plenty of parking. It's very close to the quaint main street in Montrose which was used in a few Sons of Anarchy episodes last year.
This should be a neighborhood gem but we have seen it deteriorate for the past few years. We had breakfast this past Saturday and while the pressed coffee never disappoints, we make better omelets at home without the $13.00 per, plus tip price tag. Can't see how it can continue to skimp on what makes a restaurant great - THE FOOD, and continue in business.
Wanna be restaurant with average tasting foods and high school level service.
Example: Hawaiian bbq, beets salad taste like they're from a can. Cioppo broth tastes like Ragu sauce..
This was our second time eating at Oceanview. There is little ambiance. The appetizers were good as was the salad. Our entrees were disappointing. Both were said to be popular dishes. I ordered sesame crusted tuna. It was nicely cooked, however there was no flavor to the fish or rice that accompanied it. I could not eat the cabbage/slaw as it contained red peppers. The second dish was called "baseball," a large round of steak in a mound of potatoes and gravy with a couple of asparagus under the potatoes and gravy.
I live fairly close to this restaurant but had not had the opportunity to try it until this week. A Groupon deal motivated me and the results were spectacular. The meals were excellent, delicious and well-presented. Service was quick, friendly and efficient. I WILL be returning more often and am regretting that I missed this gem for so long!
We've tried this place a few times. Since it's nearby, we wanted it to be a go to place. They try too hard to "elevate" the food. On this visit my seared Ahi had a breaded crust that was awful. We would enjoy simple, well prepared quality food over the dressed up, but not so tasty food we've had.
Food was delicious, with so many options. Our server Patricia was great. Have been here for breakfast, lunch and dinner and would come back again for all. We hadn't been here in a while because service wasn't so great (even though the food was). It was nice to see all new staff with better service.
this is a dog friendy place. they have a nice outside seating area that provides great treats for your pets as you eat a scrumptious meal!
We always enjoy Ocean View Bar & Grill. The service is always very good, and the everyday menu is more than unique and appetizing. Unfortunately, the only reservation we could get for six for Mother's Day was at 1:30 p.m. By then the Mothers Day buffet (one could not order from the menu that day) was pretty well picked over. The Caesar salad was limp and mushy. The potato salad had gobs of extra mayo. Some other offerings in roll top warmers I could not readily identify. The prime rib was ok. The one saving grace was the made-to-order omelets, although my daughters thought too much oil was used. Overall, we were disappointed. As I said, we love this place. We'll continue going there, just not on mid-afternoon on Mother's Day.
The place is lovely, great location & easy parking. The staff is friendly & semi attentive. Drink & wine prices reasonable.
We shared the sizeable salmon & ahi tuna appetizer to start & it was beautifully plated with avocado & eel sauce crispy rice crackers, a good amount of food. We also had the classic burger which was juicy & exactly what you'd expect at a nice bistro.
Great atmosphere & fun place. Music in the bar is just the right volume. A talented guitarist was playing with backing tracks & a mannequin side kick; performing a wide selection of classic rock favorites that had the place singing along.
Fun & good quality..... we'll be back !!!
I've been to this restaurant a couple of times before and always left happy this time was no different. Went with another couple food was good everyone enjoyed their meal. The servers were very attentive and the manager (i think) poured our wine and thanked us for choosing to visit. My only complaint is that we received our salads and about one minute later our entrees were being served. I like to visit and enjoy the meal and not feel like we are in a race to eat. So slow down and let us enjoy the food with a small break in between courses would be better. We will be back again and next time I'll remind the server not to put in the order all at once.
We really liked this place the first few times we went. Food was great, service was good. Not sure what's happened, but I don't think we'll be going back. Pancakes were rubbery and bacon was soft. Too bad.
I was Forced to choose from a set menu. I was not pleased with any of the choices. I ordered a $70.00 Lobster tail that I could have received from the red lobster for 3/4 the price. I think that it would have tasted better.
Would have never expected such great food from this place. The Ambience is below par, but the food is way better than some of the 5 star restaurants. I had the roast duck and it tasted like high quality filet.
If your going to a restaurant to eat, this is the place. Great food, always fresh
Great food and service. A perfect Christmas Eve dinner!
My husband's Birthday !
I placed an order for a special dessert on Open Table and two days ego I went to this restaurant to be sure they would do it.(with candles)
No dessert ! Only the bill after the main course ... and ... to my husband who was invited ! Wonderful surprised !
Asking for " my" dessert (whose they didn't know about !), we received an ice cream and a cookie with a small, small, small candle on top. They gave me a discount, it's ok but ...
Our first table was close to the kitchen's space, noisy with a lot withe lamps : Not very ROMANTIC !
Skip this restaurant for a special occasion !
My family has come here many times and we've always left very happy and satisfied. Their menu items are unique, delicious, and very fresh. And they have a very cute outdoor patio to enjoy on a beautiful sunny day.
We have had brunch at the Oceanview Bar & Grill many times, and we have always been pleased. Especially since we can bring our dog and sit outside. But, this time, we believe they had a new server working for them, and the service was terrible. It took over 45 minutes, from the time of our arrival, to get our food. Also, I ordered the special Bloody Mary, and it was more like Bloody water. We hope they work out the service issues, and improve the bloody Mary. The food was very good, once it got to us.
On a recent 10-day trip to LA I ate at Oceanview I think four times. Love it. Great food, lovely people, excellent service, and a pretty outside seating area. And a bowl of shredded white chicken meat for the dogs. Love the breakfast menu -- yummy omelet and excellent coffee, great start to the day. Thanks as always.
I have never had a beet salad like this one!!! Service was perfect. GM came to our table personally to welcome us. Totally redecorated interior. Very classy. Only wish they had blue cheese olives for our martinis. Go there! You will love it!!
4th time here this year and it's a winner. Seafood
Is fresh and the service is great.. Really enjoyed the salmon this time.
Pur second time here and we really enjoyed it. Seafood was fresh and tasty. Generous wine pourings were an added bonus:) Jimmy Buffet cover band was well... Interesting....
Didn't realize Mother's day was going to be a brunch. On a gluten free, no egg diet I couldn't eat lots of dishes BUT they do great salad, a huge choice of veg, and lots of fruit. All of which was very good.
We hadn't been here for a long time, no reason. They have changed hands a few times since we first went there. Well, were we surprised! Food was great, LOVED the grilled cheese sandwich! Service was super friendly and efficient. We had a great time!
The Shellfish Trio with shrimp, scallop and lobster tail was beautifully presented cooked to the point of just being done. Delicious!
First time here. Had the crusty salmon was very
We love this local (to us) spot.
The food is always freshly prepared, except for the cookies on this particular day.
There were lots of vegetarian options for my daughter, and plenty of the things you'd expect from a more expensive brunch.
The omelette station was a big hit with us, and the grilled veggies were excellent.
My only grievance, they charged for coffee. I expect that to be included at a set brunch price.
We had a wonderful birthday celebration for my daughter. The food, service and place were great! Thanks for the memories!
Always love breakfast at the Oceanview. Great coffee, great food; attentive pleasant service, and they are very dog-friendly! Their outside area fills up fast on a pleasant sunny day such as the Sunday morning we were there. Still, it doesn't seem to get as full as other places in Montrose, which always surprises me.
This place is a cut above; high-quality food and service, a friendly vibe, and also reasonable prices. This was my third visit in a week!
Three of us had a lovely Friday evening dinner here. Great service, excellent food, not too expensive. Warm friendly environment. I've been here for brunch several times recently but this was my first time for dinner. We all thoroughly enjoyed it.
I went here for brunch once with my brother and dad. They both said that it didn't taste good considering the price. We went for dinner this time w/ mom and the food was salty, steak was not cooked to our desire, there were rocks in the scallop, ran out of 2 side dishes we wanted AND the dessert! We went for V-Day dinner (15th instead 14th) but my reso was at 8 pm and the restaurant was not packed so I don't see how they were so low on ingredients. One plus: they took the scallop risotto dish off our bill because I mentioned that there were rocks in it.
Chef Eddie continues to hit the mark with his unique and incredible creations.
The Parmesan encrusted escolar was superb--it melted in the mouth and was wonderfully flavorful. Side dishes were excellent as well. And, through their loyalty program, we bought one entree and got one free. The food is always delicious at Oceanview.
We were a party of four celebrating one of our member's birthday. Drinks were fine, and served very promptly by the bartender. Two of us had the hangar steak, one had scallops with mushroom risotto, and one had the beef stroganoff. All the food was outstanding. I have never had a bad meal here. We were provided with two birthday desserts to share and a good time was had by all.
Christmas Eve salmon was especially good, as was the butternut squash soup. All 6 of us enjoyed our meals. Service was attentive for a busy night. Thank you!
Enjoyed most of the meal, nice and attentive service, great beighborhood restaurant.
Relaxed and pleasant, a nice experience.
Lighting was a little dim which made it hard to read menu. I suggest more and larger votives on tables. Caesar salad is always bland and although crisp and fresh it needs more garlic and lemon. Great sides they are offering now.
