Oceans 999 Pan Pacific Vancouver Ratings and Reviews
Nice overall selection. Excellent seafood but a few more varieties of smoked salmon would have been appreciated. The Salmon Wellington was gorgeous as was the outstanding seafood medley. Our waiter was very professional but it became extremely busy so I think it got a bit hectic to keep up.
The dessert table was mediocre - for the price I expected better quality tortes and cheesecakes. The bread pudding was rather eggy - no raisins. Jell-O shots were cheap as was the gelatine cheesecake bites which were industrial. However, after the fantastic seafood - we were pretty full to indulge in much dessert anyway.
This was a treat for us and I hope others will enjoy the Market Brunch but make reservations!
We went for Dine Out Vancouver, and it was a Saturday night which was also Italian buffet and live opera night. The food was moderate at best - it was tasty but nothing spectacular. I wouldn't say it was worth the $40 set menu, but if it were $30, it would be more worth its price. The Thai bouillabaisse was creative, but slightly off target. It didn't contain the large variety of seafood that a bouillabaisse normally would, but the lingcod was tasty, and the spicy Thai flavour was a nice change of taste from a traditional bouillabaisse. However, the service and entertainment was lovely for the evening and made it really fancy. Overall, it seems almost pretentious to eat at this restaurant - paying copious amounts of money for moderately prepared food that isn't anything new or groundbreaking.
We dined as part of the weekly Sat. night Opera Buffet. We were impressed as it was about 11 years since our last visit here. The salad and dessert tables are bountiful, varied and of high quality. Although there were not many entree dishes, each was excellent. Prepared-to-order pasta was offered. There were ample vegetable choices and the pasta included a whole wheat penne choice so my spouse was definitely happy!
This is definitely a special place for a special occasion dinner and there were at least 6 parties celebrating a birthday or anniversary. We look forward to returning in a lot less than 11 years.
The bouillabaisse is not an orthodox bouillabaisse. It is just a lingcod steak in a Thai coconut curry sauce. The sauce and dish are delicious but it was somewhat misleadingly called bouillabaisse.
The other dishes were good but not particularly memorable. The coffee wasn’t very good.
Excellent value and service for food.
Went there for my girlfriend's birthday. The server was attentive and even brought a piece of cake with candle and a plaque with 'happy birthday' on it. Overall I think all the servers there were great. I would definitely recommend my friends there and of course, I'll be back again.
My parents and I went out for a special family dinner here for the Vancouver Dine Out. The food was good - appetizers like the beef carpaccio was perfect. My parents got two different ones, a squash soup my dad loved and garden greens for my mum. They were all appropriately sized. However, the mains were a bit small in portions - my dad and I got the short rib (I was meant to get a ravioli but they mistook my order) which took us very little time to finish off. My mum got a coconut bouillabaisse, which she liked. All the mains were spiced well and my family loved it. The table we were at were just far enough away from all others around us so conversation was easy and yet the 'dining experience' was still there. Service was good, just sometimes forgetful. Dessert at the end was divine.
Services was very sketchy. Had to wait 15 minutes before a waiter showed up.
I enjoyed my steak, but the others tried the seafood paella which was really just yellow rice and not paella.
Order a beer since you get what you pay for. Wine prices are unreal. They're charging $15 a glass for a $8.99 bottle of wine!! Buy the bottle and it's $50 for the local BC screw top, Pinot noir. In this case it really is beer before the no taste Pinot.
My partner and I ordered from your Dine Out menu. She had a beautiful, tasty Thai cod bouillabaisse and I ordered the short ribs. Short ribs were a complete disappointment. Very, very tough! I expected some fat and got quite a bit more of it plus lots of sinew I couldn't cut through. It was undercooked in my opinion. Very little edible meat could be extracted from this dish. We were staying at the hotel for a stay vacation so decided to eat there too. I expected better quality from this restaurant. Disappointed.
Made a reservation weeks in advance for Christmas Eve Brunch - which is also my Mother's Birthday. 48 hours before, I get a call advising that Breakfast/Brunch has been moved to a meeting rooms - too late for me to make alternate plans.
Despite my advance reservation, no table was set up. Dining in the meeting/ballroom made us feel like we were at a convention.
The service was horrible and the food was average...Earls, Milestones, Cactus Club (pick your choice) offers better food quality, service and atmosphere.
Hugely Disappointed. Once upon a time, the Pan Pacific was synonymous with excellence - now even mediocre would be a kindness.
We had a call from the restaurant the day before our reservation to confirm we would be there, we said yes we would and they said that they would have a nice table at the window for us. We showed up as per our reservation and they had no idea we were to be there. They told us they could sit us at a table for 3 and we said what good is that there are 4 of us. They didn't seem to have any answers an quite honestly they couldn't have cared less. At that point we left. We have been to that restaurant many times over the last 25+ years, but believe me we will never go back.
Food and service were good. I really enjoyed the prime rib, salmon Wellington and spicy cumin prawns. Beautiful view of the north shore mountains. Some of the hot food were warm and would have tasted better if they were hot. Getting to the restaurant was confusing due to insufficient signage in the parkade and renovation being done to the escalators.
This comment is exclusively for the Italian Opera buffet. Despite the mediocre food, we go for the Opera buffet because the ambiance is unique. we have been taking my parents for many years to enjoy the operatic entertainment. There is always enough variety in the buffet to satisfy all different types of palate. We are very happy that Pan Pacific carries on this weekend tradtion. My only comment is that more effort should be out into getting the pasta dishes right because this is an Italian themed dinner. The pasta bar is always the biggest disappointment for us over the years.
The Opera Buffet is always such a treat. Four great young singers accompanied by one extremely experienced and versatile pianist entertain you from 6pm to 9pm, as you browse the large buffet.
I found the food a tad on the bland side (maybe I was just in the mood for some stronger flavours and spices), but it was all fresh and bountiful.
The waitress was very attentive and had a good sense of humour - I received about 4 fresh napkins during the course of the night and everything we asked for, she made it happen!
We had a fantastic dining experience at our Sunday brunch here. Our waiter, Hiroshi, was attentive, engaging and on top of our needs. He made the dining experience a truly enjoyable one. The food was tasty, varied and most importantly, the hot items were hot, and the cold items were cold. It is not often that food served buffet style would still uphold fine dining standards, but I think Oceans 999 did a great job.
My only negative is that for the price charged, I wish they would also include mimosas, and not just coffee or tea.
We went for the Saturday Opera buffet. As always is a fantastic opportunity for great food and exceptional service. Our waitress, Tahara, was cheerful and prompt and we want to congratulate both her and the management of the restaurant for making our evening very special.
