the Oceanaire never fails to please. The San Diego location was no exception. Our server was extremely helpful, and we enjoyed chatting with him over the food choices.
Good food, great service and very noisy for a business dinner
2nd time dining here. Food is outstanding. Service much better on the 2nd visit. Will definitely return!
Our server was charming and the food was excellent.
I am an avid foodie and dine out at least 3x a week. Recently my dining has taken me to Spago at the Four Seasons Maui, Morimoto at The Andaz, Ruth’s Chris Maui/San Diego not to be braggadocio but only for reference. I have been to Oceanaire several times and never had and issue but there is a first time for everything. It took 45 minutes to get cold apps from the raw bar then another hour to get our entrees that were sent back to be re-fired. The waiter was gracious but the manager was indignant, frustrated and overwhelmed! Don’t patronize me with your lack of sincerity and lame recovery. This was a catastrophic failure of a dining experience which cost me several hundred dollars for so much anguish. Terrible experience and even worse management resolution.
The waiter was cheerful, professional, knowledgeable of their menu and made excellent recommendations. We thoroughly enjoyed the experience and will be going back for more.
We went to Oceanaire for my husband’s birthday. The service was impeccable, food was OUTSTANDING and the ambiance was quiet, sophisticated and welcoming. This is one of our new favorites and we can’t wait to go again, soon!!
Our waiter was nit very attentive . We had to flag him down to get service. In the many years I have dined at oceanaire this was the first time service was not very good.
Loved everything!! It was delish!!
We saw this place online and thought it would be worth trying. One night while walking past, we almost decided not to bother. But because of the reviews, we thought we would go ahead with it, since it was close to our hotel. We are so glad we went! The food was amazing, the setting was unique. We would definitely recommend if you want a great meal with a unique atmosphere.
Awesome. Food and service were great
Got there right before the Saturday night rush so timing was perfect. A few tables by the window were available yet our host was going to seat us in a corner booth although I had special-requested a window seat should one be available upon arrival on the Open Table app. The hostess allowed us to have the table by the window which was available without issue.
Service, beverages (bloody martini!) and food (scallops, Hawaiian monchong, bass, and chocolate cake!) was amazing. It got a little on the noisy side upon leaving but didn't bother us since it was girls night out but probably not a great place for a working/business dinner as you might miss critical conversation but if you're there to eat their delish food, you came to the right restaurant. Uncertain if they have a private room - definitely would be ideal if they did for business and/or private dinners. NOTE TO SELF: check next time you're there!
OpenTable still has yet to figure out what happened with my $50 reward so hopefully the situation is remediated soon. It's been over a week and the credit wasn't applied to our bill nor did the restaurant mention having it on record so clearly the system is broken. I have never had issue with OpenTable until now and I'm hoping they do the right thing and credit me my rewards; especially since I always reserve through them and have been a loyal user for many years.
Good job, Oceannaire. Thanks for the lovely everything!!!! And, yes, I intentionally meant everything and not evening. We had a very memorable and wonderful time!!!
It was a date. Boyfriend’s birthday is this month and I wanted to treat him for his birthday.
Excellent service. Our waiter was very knowledgeable about all aspects of the menu. The baked Alaska dessert was incredible.
Great service by Sean. Crab cakes and Hawaiian Manchong fish were excellent.
Food was amazing. Service was great. A+ all around.
It was a busy night with several large parties. Dave worked hard to make our evening comfortable. Food was delicious.
We were well looked after. Food was stunning 😊
Delicious fish and a baked Alaska what more could you ask for ❤️
Greg provided the BEST service experience.
Fantastic as usual. Best quality in town. Amazing food, great service.
We come here 2-3 times per year because we like the ambience, the service is usually friendly and professional and the Food is always good. We go there specifically for seafood even though they have other items on the menu. So overall it was a good evening and the main course was prepared perfectly for both my wife's John Dory and my Swordfish and Swordfish can be a little tricky on being over cooked but mine was perfect.
We felt a bit rushed during this experience which has not been the norm from our past experiences, most of that stemmed from one of my pet peeves which was having the main course show up while I'm still eating my salad. In this case the timing was way off considering that my wife and I had split the Wedge salad. If someone had ordered that salad themselves they would have been barely half way through it when their entrée arrived.
Speaking of the Wedge we have had it here before and always liked it but this version had no flavor in the dressing and since you are dressing iceberg lettuce that left the only flavor that you tasted was coming from a few diced tomatoes and some bacon crumbles. Clearly a new recipe than what we've had before. We will look for a different salad next time.
We also did not care for the coarsely grated horseradish served with the oysters on the half shell (think shorter but same coarseness as shredded carrots), I love horseradish but this presentation made it difficult to get enough on your oyster.
We will definitely go back.
Oceanaire, for me, continues to be the number one seafood restaurant in San Diego. A must go to restaurant.
Very good place. Gets loud when full. Waiter was a little over yhe yop, but helpful and knowledgebase on food prep. Must go in San Diego. Plan to drip a couple of c notes.
Ambiance, service and food is among the best in the area. Great selection of fish and specialty preparations.
Excellent food. Awesome experience!
Horrible. Arranged weeks in advance for anniversary. Tried to seat us at the reception area, then seated next to the bus station even-though a nice window seat was available.
Totally messed up order - wrong items, wrong preparation. I choose to keep it so I could eat with my wife instead of her waiting or eating by herself. They said they would not charge- bs. When I got the bill, they changed their minds.
Server, manager, hostess all came by many many times asking if everything was all right. No, they f’d up every part of the evening. Actions are louder than words. Stop asking and start doing!!!!
So much for a special anniversary. Have visited the restaurant about once every three months for the last couple of years. Steadily gotten worse. This was the last time. Hello Eddie V’s
Excellent service. Gourmet food. Nice atmosphere. Would definitely return.
Oceanaire tries hard but falls short of “world class.” Our waiter was very nice but unfocused and couldn’t remember that I had already ordered my wine or that we were gluten free. The salmon was cooked perfectly and couldn’t have been more delicious. However, the lobster cocktail, though presented beautifully, was small and not cracked sufficiently. The cocktail sauce was removed prematurely from the table. When we inquired about gluten free options for dessert we were told there were none. My husband said “surely you have some ice
cream.” When that was brought it was just a scoop in a bowl with no type of embellishment like fruit or syrup which seemed at odds with how beautifully the other dishes were served. We enjoyed the special touch of my husbands name on the menu and we enjoyed our evening but I’m not sure we would bring important guests to Oceanaire.
Excellent service! Waiter really knew his menu and gave us just the right amount of attention. Food was fabulous. Only caution is not to over order. A side can easily be shared. It probably isn’t even needed if you split a salad and get an entree
Poor service in a pricey restaurant creates unhappy patrons. The table next to us arrived after we did and paid their bill as our food arrived. Food was tasty. Work on service please.
Anniversary dinner was an excellent memorable event.
Wait staff was extremely helpful and detail oriented. Food was delicious.
We were staying at Pendry Hotel which is 1 block away and choose this restaurant because of walking distance. Great Happy Hour and then had dinner in restaurant. Was my husband's birthday and they had birthday greeting on our menus--nice touch. Wait staff was excellent and food was fresh and tasty. Large convention in town and place was full but did not affect the great service we received.
I don’t mind paying 270$ (With no alcohol) for a Valentine’s Day dinner for my wife and I but I expect the food and service to be top tier. This was not.
Our drinks were constantly low- most times I had to stop the waiter and ask for more iced tea. A different server dropped off our main course and just walked away, our waiter never even came back to see if everything was cooked correctly, just to ask if we wanted dessert or not.
I will just stick to Trulucks from now on.
We had not been to Oceanaire for a few years, but it was one of my favorite seafood restaurants in San Diego (having a kid kept us from frequenting downtown restaurants). The reservation was simple and perfect timing for our family valentine's day dinner, so I was excited to surprise my family with this experience. We were seated in the back, not in the main dining room, and I don't blame the staff at all for that (I can certainly respect putting a family with a 4 y/o in quarantine), but it was freezing back there. They turned down the air from my request, but it took 10 minutes for us to take off our coats.
Service: The waitress wasn't too helpful with the menu choices or specials (there weren't any), but it wasn't too difficult to figure out. We requested good oysters and super soft fish with no spice added...not too demanding, but she gave us options that didn't make much sense, so we went with our gut/instincts.
Food: One of the oyster choices was delicious! The other was so-so, but still very acceptable. The lobster bisque/salad/crab cake apps were all very good. The fish...my wife's sea bass was flakey, but the topping was too spicy for her to handle (we asked if it was spicy and she told us 'absolutely not'). My ono was dry (overcooked) and tasteless, but the sauce/whipped truffle potato was creamy and yummy. We didn't return anything, rather my wife and I swapped dished and it worked out okay...just okay. Creamed corn side dish was pretty good and made up for the tasteless fish. The dessert was super dry (caramel choco cake) and we couldn't eat it. Again, we didn't ruffle any feathers and ask for a return/exchange, but it was just a bit disappointing.
Overall: I was hoping for a really good fish dinner. I got a disappointing overcooked meal and a dinner I was hoping to have some consistency with my past experiences of it. I don't think I'll go back there unless I get super hungry for halibut when it's in season.
Good food; great service.
First time at the San Diego Oceanaire although have dined at the Dallas Oceanaire, which was wonderful.
Everything about the San Diego Oceanaire was fabulous, the wait staff, the ambiance, the food, the wine. We started with oysters, always a good choice. The grilled Octopus was succulent and tasty. Salads were wonderful, and then things got better. Both entrees were excellently prepared- the steak cooked to perfection, the swordfish was wonderful, a very thick cut, again cooked to perfection, I think the best swordfish I have eaten anywhere and not overpowered by garnish etc. Wine by the glass recommendations excellent. Dessert, shared Baked Alaska, was spectacularly presented and capped a wonderful meal. Definitely one of our new favorite places to eat in San Diego. Easily the equal or better of the Dallas Oceanaire!
Excellent food and service!! The booth was very comfortable and located in the perfect location for a special night.
It was a wonderful evening. Food was outstanding the cocktails were creative and tasty. Best of all was the service. Outstanding..attentive...friendly. Great ambiance
We were there for Valentine's Day dinner and it was absolutely exceptional!!!! the food, the service, and the ambiance was perfect. I highly recommend that you experience this restaurant!
