Oceanaire Seafood Room - San Diego Ratings and Reviews
Oceanaire has unfortunately declined from a "higher end" downtown SD restaurant to an "upscale" chain restaurant owned by Landry's. Prices have increased, but menu is not the same. It had a signature "Drunken" option for its fish which was great and a highlight. Manager told me it no longer serves that as prior owner is using it as his restaurant. Also have cut back on the beer menu and eliminated several good beers to larger brands with 3 very similar local brands, but all high in hops which does not go well with fish. Oceanaire needs to get back to its roots or I suspect it will unfortunately continue to decline to a "just above average" chain restaurant. Use to eat there on average 1 time each month, but have elected to go with other options with better value.
The food at Oceanaire was really good. If you are looking for one of the best seafood restaurants in San Diego. Then this is it. Truluck is good also but the Oceanaire offers more seafood options. Everything is so fresh and when it comes to seafood that is very important. The service was also above par. We enjoyed are time at the restaurant and we can't wait to we go back.
We've dined here many times over the years, never a disappointment. we were seated in one of the back booths and there was a large table gathering close by, that was a bit noisy until they got seated. Very good waiter, Daniel who assisted in a wine selection when our first choice was not acceptable. Very knowledgeable about the menu. We'll be back.
Out of thousands of San Diego county restaurants, this is our favorite. Food fabulous, staff delightful & the occasional dining promotions are incredible bargains. Probably best for couples or small groups, but they will accommodate larger groups with a little notice.
We wanted to try this location due to the reviews. I can't say we had a bad meal, the food we did order was prepared well and was very fresh. I had the Rockfish Dynamite and they were happy to change out the fish to cod for me (for a small fee) so that was appreciated. The waiter did mention that it was a 4 out of 5 on the hot scale. Now, I do like spicy food and this is why the waiter made that suggestion to me BUT this item is freaking hot! I ended up with not so good indigestion thru the next day so be warned. The staff was friendly and the location was clean and low lighting gave it a nice ambiance and when it fills up it can be a bit noisy.
Appetizer of Shrimp & Grits was very salty. No fried shrimp on menu, had to ask if they could serve some. They did say they could. Steak was served without steak knife, had to ask for one. Had to ask for cocktail sauce. Wasn’t thrilled with waiter blowing out Baked Alaska. Think there should be a covered dome to put it out. Or let me blow it out.
Decided to spend our anniversary dinner and was extremely happy with meal, unfortunately the time it took to get out chefs choice oysters appetizer was a bit lengthy, Approximately 30 mins. Now I know shucked oysters are not something you can expect quickly, but we were 2 drinks in each prior to enjoying them. As for the whole experience, the time we spent at the bar prior to being seated was enhanced due to the great bartender, Shaun. We will try again soon and hope the evening doesn’t get delayed due to food prep.
While this was our second visit in only 2 years. The staff was AMAZING. We made reservations, for a Thursday, but found it was not really necessary. Our server and staff were incredible. Seating was great. The crab cake appetizer was just good for the price. The Alaskan King Crab legs were excellent. The baked/flash fried fish was just okay. Too much spice and sauce, too really capture the flavor of the fish. The sides, I would not recommend unless, they were served warmer than room temperature. For dessert, we HIGHLY recommend the Baked Alaska. Although not quite the same as served in Alaska; their spin was very incredible. Overall, the Oceanaire is a great place to relax and enjoy dinner when in San Diego.
From the moment we walked in until we left the service and people were just so hospitable. They truly go above and beyond to ensure your dining experience is one of the best.
For your next special occasion or a friends’ get-together, don’t look to go anywhere else but here!
I first learned of Oceanaire over 5 years ago when I was attending a conference. I ordered the crab cakes and was literally licking my plate.
Now coming back for another conference I wanted to relive it - and it did not disappoint.
Also had the shrimp/grits and brussel sprouts.... both great.
The food was very good however the prices were extremely high. My family of five went to dinner to celebrate my daughters 11th birthday. Our bill was $450. We went to the Cheesecake Factory the next day and our bill was less than half ... and the kids like the food better. Not the place I would recommend for a family outing. Better for a date.
We were offered a seat in the corner near the Kitchen entrance on Saturday at 6:00 PM with the Room 15% full. The only Prosecco you offer was very dry and not enjoyable. The Clam Chowder was very salty, and the Coho Salmon was over cooked and dry. Three of the party of four ordered the Salmon and one person ordered Brussels sprouts side. Waiter did not point out that the Salmon came with Brussels sprouts.
All in all not your best work.. I wish you well and hope take these comments constructively as there are only offered in that sentiment.
