Horrible service. There were three of us and we ordered main dishes snd three side dishes. We were served our main dishes and never got the side dishes. When our waiter showed up we told him snd he said he would check on it. What was there to check? Then he was MIA again. I walked over to the manager and complained. The manager was, very courteous and accommodating. We were all flustered by our waiter and in spite of the noble actions of the manager left with bad feelings. I’ll never go back.
We chose to dine here for our one year wedding anniversary dinner. The restaurant was beautiful, but the food was just “okay”. Due to some dietary restrictions, we were very limited on what we could eat, so our waitress kindly helped point us in the direction of what was approved for our dietary needs. I would say her instructions were dead on, but I wasn’t very impressed with the flavor of the food. Our waitress was informative and helpful, but I paid $35 for a piece of cod that tasted like it came from my own kitchen. It was rather bland and didn’t make an outstanding impression. However, My husband loved his meal. He ordered fresh swordfish.
Da kine. If you like seafood and have a generous budget, you will love this place. It’s my go-to seafood restaurant in the US.
Crab cakes and baked Alaska were great
Exceptional food and service. We were looking for fine dining with seafood and the reviews sent us here. It did not disappoint and we would go back. Server Scott was excellent! It is pricey $225+ for two of us but delicious and the service was top notch. Located right downtown and an easy walk from out hotel.
Great ambience, professional service and good fresh ingredients executed with simplistic style, it stays on my short list for seafood dining in San Diego
Lovely food new waiter was friendly but missed a couple of things- half empty in a Tuesday night but cute place
Outstanding service and food.
Our waiter was top notch, the service was excellent, and the food was delicious! We have been celebrating our Anniversaries at Oceanaire for many years and will continue to do so. BTW this eas #28!
Oceanaire is my favorite restaurant in San Diego. The food and the atmosphere is great. The service is great. Sundays are one dollar oyster night. There are so many menu options to choose from it’s difficult to choose.
They did a great job of helping celebrate my daughter’s birthday.
Try the angry striped bass or the chicken fried lobster. I’ve never been disappointed.
Great find...a little pricey but it is owned by the same people that have "Landry's." SEAN our waiter was phenomenal. Crab Cake and Crab Cocktail starters were very very good. General selection of Halibut for the wife and Swordfish Dynamite for me. Both were very good but food rating was lowered due to both fish being slightly dry and overcooked. Don't miss the side of Hashbrowns .... very good. We had key lime pie which was BIG and tasty. We would've liked to have a little more lime taste to it. Overall.. we would come back for a special event or I would with customers.
we were visiting San Diego, and I found this on yelp. it was fantastic, the food the atmosphere
was perfect. then there was the service. our waiter Scott was great, but the entire staff was always on top of it. they never missed a beat. I dine out often . i wish all my experiences were like this. this was a 10 out of 10.
thanks you to all. great job. the great service makes a huge difference .
Food was fantastic! Felt like Our table was the only one there.
Great place! Went for my birthday. Our server was very attentive and made the dinner special. Will definitely come back next time in San Diego.
Ordered the mixed shellfish dinner and while the scallops were very good, the miniscule lobster tail was mushy and underwhelming. The shrimp were so so, especially compared to the shrimp we had with the shrimp cocktail. The wedge salad was also meh, very little bacon or tomatoes included. The crab cakes were great, the chocolate cake dessert was very good, but we just felt a bit of a letdown this time. We've been coming to Oceanaire for years now and it has been our go-to place for a great quality meal. Prices also keep inching up. When I spend $200 for a dinner, I want to walk away feeling completely satisfied and sadly, this wasn't the case.
We celebrated my father's 90th birthday at Oceanaire on April 6, 2018. The staff was wonderful and made us all feel very special - especially my father. We had a wonderful server and perfect table. Nice touch with personalizing the menus. The food is a little pricey, but so worth it for this special occasion.
Really nice. Great food. Love the sides. Always fresh.
Started slow with the service, but the food and drink made up for it.
The restaurant is upstairs in the Gaslamp Area, a block away from Petco Stadium.
The atmosphere was nice, classy and clean. Quiet for a Saturday night. Not as busy on Easter weekend. Our server, Ben, started off great but disappeared after our dinner was served. Service was lackluster for a fine dining establishment. You are treated much better at Ruth Chris, Maestro’s, Houston's, Ostera and Nick's.
The drinks - I had a Sidecar and my fiancée had a Cape Cod. The Cape Cod was refreshing and on the stronger side which we both love. My sidecar was made with cinnamon on the rim and it took away from the taste of the drink which happens to be the whole reason I ordered it. I ended up sending it back for a Cosmo which was okay.
The food was very good. For appetizers we ordered the calamari, which was delicious and very fresh. It has a little spice to it which we enjoyed. We also had a Caesar salad that was delicious. For our dinner entrees we ordered the filet, topped with 3 jumbo shrimp, swordfish - topped with lump crab meat, side entrée of whipped potatoes. Everything tasted sooooo good. We were very full after devouring our meals but made sure that we had enough room for dessert.
Dessert - we had the chocolate caramel cake. The only thing good on the cake was the side of ice cream. The cake tasted a little old and almost had the texture of a flourless cake.
Overall - I would pass on returning to this establishment as there are many other places in San Diego that you can get fresh seafood and steaks from with much better service. I believe that service is everything and unfortunately the service that night left me unsatisfied.
35th wedding anniversary spent at one of our favorite restaurant. As always the service is matched by the impeccable food. The oysters came from both west and east coasts and were fantastic. My favorite char broiled Octopus remains indescribable.
Cant wait to return!
Great waiter with great recommendations and knowledge of the food and menu. Staff was on top of bringing everything we needed, filling our water glasses and making sure we were happy and didn't want/need anything. The food was great. The crab cake is still a must! The blackberry Boubon cocktail is very good.
Our server Ben was knowledgeable & attentive. Appreciate them giving us a copy of the menu as a souvenir of our anniversary
Great food especially the John Dory preparation
Amazing as usual. Whole fish is to die for
My GF and I both love seafood and this place may be the best in San Diego. From the Hamachi to the oyster to the entrees, side and dessert, the food was amazing. It was great to celebrate her birthday there and the wait staff is top notch as well. Happy and satisfied!
First impressions is that this is an old school ‘American fine dining’ spot with blue lighting and a late 80s decor. We liked the great seafood menu. The menus are printed daily but the accuracy of the dishes is way off. The ‘simple’ section says you can have any of the fish dishes grilled and brushed with lemon butter (as apposed to some of the richer sauces), in fact it comes swimming in lemon butter, more of a beu blanc sauce - which my wife liked but is far from how it was described, and not to my taste or likely anyone truly wanting to taste the fish. The broccolini was described as having a spring onion sauce flavour and was actually extremely spicy - which we liked, but could have been a problem if you didn’t like really spicy food. We gave this feedback to the waiter who said we know, but they don’t listen to us.
Biggest issue was my sea bass coming out undercooked and the whole dish was cold, they also forgot to put the broccolini order in. My wife was finished eating before my main was redone (as cod, as they’d run out of sea bass). When it finally came it was great.
If you want a traditional restaurant with largely very rich food, it might work for you.
The restaurant has a simple elegance which made us feel welcome. Sean was our waiter. He was very knowledgeable and helpful and gave us just the right amount of attention. The food was superb. This was a celebration of our anniversary and it was a lovely evening. We would definitely recommend your restaurant to anyone who is visiting San Diego.
Our table host James was a perfect “10”. Excellent in EVERYWAY....
Wonderful food and terrific service. Will return soon.
Our favorite restaurant. Have never been disappointed.
the Oceanaire never fails to please. The San Diego location was no exception. Our server was extremely helpful, and we enjoyed chatting with him over the food choices.
Good food, great service and very noisy for a business dinner
2nd time dining here. Food is outstanding. Service much better on the 2nd visit. Will definitely return!
Our server was charming and the food was excellent.
I am an avid foodie and dine out at least 3x a week. Recently my dining has taken me to Spago at the Four Seasons Maui, Morimoto at The Andaz, Ruth’s Chris Maui/San Diego not to be braggadocio but only for reference. I have been to Oceanaire several times and never had and issue but there is a first time for everything. It took 45 minutes to get cold apps from the raw bar then another hour to get our entrees that were sent back to be re-fired. The waiter was gracious but the manager was indignant, frustrated and overwhelmed! Don’t patronize me with your lack of sincerity and lame recovery. This was a catastrophic failure of a dining experience which cost me several hundred dollars for so much anguish. Terrible experience and even worse management resolution.
The waiter was cheerful, professional, knowledgeable of their menu and made excellent recommendations. We thoroughly enjoyed the experience and will be going back for more.
We went to Oceanaire for my husband’s birthday. The service was impeccable, food was OUTSTANDING and the ambiance was quiet, sophisticated and welcoming. This is one of our new favorites and we can’t wait to go again, soon!!
Our waiter was nit very attentive . We had to flag him down to get service. In the many years I have dined at oceanaire this was the first time service was not very good.
