Oceanaire Seafood Room - Minneapolis Ratings and Reviews
Beautiful restaurant! I was slightly disappointed because I felt slightly forgotten about. I was dining on my own while traveling for business. The server was very friendly but I was always the last table to receive any service. Overall, it took almost 2 hours from the time I walked in to when I walked out. My salad alone took 20 minutes. I had to wait another 15 after I finished my salad for a medium rare petite filet. I ordered a second glass of wine and it didn't even come until after my meal was finished. The steak was melt in your mouth delicious - prepared exactly the way I love it. The seafood salad wasn't exactly what I wanted and I really only had 3 or 4 bites from it. The truffle mash was excellent. Next time I return, I will be sure not to go alone, hopefully that will garner more attention from my server. If you are a seafood lover, and steak for that matter, you should be very happy with your meal.
We were a bit disappointed in the service. One meal came out cold. We were shorted on the oysters we ordered and one of our sides came out after we were half way done with our meals. The manager made it up to us and we left as happy customers. Good was great.
We drove a distance to have dinner at Oceanaire after hearing nothing but great things about the establishment. We made reservations early enough anticipating they would be busy during the time and day we were to attend. Upon our arrival we were told we’d still have a wait which was understandable as they were busy it appeared. Our seating and the ambiance however is what I’m most displeased with. We were sat in a separated section of the restaurant with our view obstructed by a large wine rack. Our other “view” was the lobby of whatever business the restaurant is connected to. We were in this room with a larger party that had kids in their party. We love children, we have several but the purpose of this night was to spend some alone time without our kids. The waitress was as pleasant as she could be however her time was most occupied by the larger party. We spent a decent amount of money at the end of the night for a very poor and less than mediocre experience.
Farah our server made the evening, I brought the gals for birthday dinner, Happy Birthday printed on menus, surprise (excellent) desert, excellent timely service. Scallops dynamite, swordfish and jumbo scampi were great. Grew up on the water in Miami eating fresh from Biscayne Bay and the Atlantic, dined at Joe's Stone Crabs may times, Legal Seafood in Boston, Pappadeaux in Phoenix. While not the same unique atmosphere as those I'd dine here again, just different, a more cosmopolitan but comfortable atmosphere.
I miss the old oceanair. It was cozy and intimate. The location now feels like I was in a hotel restaurant. The food and service were great! But at the end of our meal (reservations were at 7:45 on a Saturday) they were moving the tables and setting up for Sunday brunch. With the cost of dinner and drinks, that really should not have been part of our atmosphere.
The food was wonderful. If comfort food can have a light side, the monkfish and cranberry couscous would be it. My husband truly enjoyed his crab cake appetizer. Our server, Wendy, was attentive without being intrusive. She took care of our needs, provided us with a great wine selection and gave us long-time marrieds a chance to relax and enjoy our date night.
Ordering food took nearly forty-five minutes with the waiter stopping by a number of times saying that he would be right back to us, but taking up to fifteen minutes to return. I initially ordered my filet medium-well, but the waiter did not recommend this preparation. I explained I order it this way to avoid being served a rare piece of meat. I relented and ordered medium. As can be seen in the attached photo, the filet was barely cooked (center was cold to the touch). I also ordered a bottle of wine to be delivered with the meal. The bottle arrived twenty minutes after the food was delivered. I chose not to accept my birthday dessert as I did not want to take any longer at the restaurant (we left after paying at 9:15 p.m. - two hours forty five minutes for an incomplete meal). Only received a two rating as appetizers were delivered promptly and tasted good.
I have been wanting to visit Oceanaire for years, and finally found a very special occasion in which to do so. I was pleased with everything except the server who seemed to forget about our table half way through our visit. For which it was not very busy, as we chose an early dining time. Empty drink glasses on more than one occasion, and had to ask another server to find our server, so we could at least order dessert....haven finally given up on that last round of drinks. Most disappointing was the fact that the server ruined my meal. I am not exaggerating when I say the crab she attempted to remove from the shell for me was literally a pile of shredded crab meat. Of the 1.5 pounds of king crab that I ordered, there were only TWO full pieces the size of a pinky finger! Absolutely terrible. It was so disappointing that she single handedly ruined what should have been very nice meal. She needs training, or to ask another server for assistance in removing shells from food.
The food was very delicious, I would definitely recommend this place to anyone! It's definitely on the pricier side but you leave full and satifised. The dish if different veggies before the main course is spot on, pickle spears, black olives, carrots, celery, peppers, cucumbers... very yummy, you also get a nice piece of sourdough. The staff is on point, water service is amazing my cup never emptied. The waiters really appreciate thier jobs and work for thier tips! The atmosphere is beautiful. Blue lights really set the tone.
It was a very busy night. Our server was running everywhere. Not sure how the tables
were divided amongst the serving staff. We were left sitting for quite awhile at one point
and our server kept saying how busy he was. We wanted to know why he paid attention to
many other tables and it seemed like we didn't matter as much. It was my husband's birthday and we weren't even offered the dessert menu - the server just brought us the worst baked
alaska with pumpkin ice cream without asking. It was a bummer.
I came here for restaurant week ($35 for a 3-course meal). The wait staff is great and willing to give suggestions. Our waitress gave a great wine suggestion. The food is quite expensive especially when considering the portion size. The entree that I ordered (salmon with mashed potatoes) was smaller than my hand. For the appetizer I ordered the oysters and they only gave two, but they were delicious. Dessert was a brownie that was bigger than the entree and appetizer combined. Overall, if I had lots of extra money, this restaurant would be great. Love the atmosphere.
We asked our server if there were any special offers, and he replied "no". Later, we noticed a table with a special menu and asked about it. Turns out it's "Restaurant Week". We were very disappointed we were not offered the special dining options available.
This is one of our very favorite restaurants in the Minneapolis area. If you love oysters, this is the place to get them. Besides all their excellent seafood options, they also have great steaks and you will be able to find something for everyone in your party.
Will definitely return.
We chose Oceanaire for our anniversary. First we were walked to a table that wasn’t set. Then asked to go stand by the bar while they set it. We sat down at 7pm and weren’t served our dinner until 9:30. At one point one person in our party went to the bar to get more drinks as our server was not to be found. Never had that experience at Oceanaire all the times we have been there before. We are turned off from ever going back. We brought 4 friends with us and the likely will not be returning.
