Oceanaire Seafood Room - Indianapolis Ratings and Reviews
Bar area small but good happy hour menu and drinks. Service was good but slow to get acknowledged even when sitting at bar. At table service was below what one should get at place like this. Oysters were great. Chopped salad was all onions could not eat it. Busser took it away and i said it wasnt good. No follow up or questions on how food was from absent server. Main dish was ok had too many styles going on and none pulled off.
The maître 'd promised a 5-star meal and he was spot on. From the moment we walked in the door, there was something special about this restaurant, and we were not disappointed, from the vegetable relish tray that arrived with our cocktails to the amazing hash brown potatoes (don't miss this dish!). Our fav entrée was the scallops, which is served with homemade pasta and just the right amount of cream sauce. And those potatoes...like a small pie, ultra crisp on top with real bacon pieces inside and a touch of hot. We had asked for a quieter table and we were served in a small area with 4-6 tables that is located at the far end of the bar. A perfect location unless people watching and noise is part of your desired dining experience!
Our experience was fantastic! The menu is extensive, the service was great, and atmosphere wonderful. Our servers, Amanda and Anna, were great. They had so much knowledge of the menu and made perfect recommendations for our group. Everything we ordered was truly delicious! Get the Brussels Sprouts!!!
The staff could not handle a full house. My wife's signature cocktail was overly muddled not in a good sense and indistinguishable from cough syrup. The chef incinerated the Dover sole special and the waiter butchered it yet managed to leave numerous bones behind. The hash browns a la Oceanaire were a joke: $2 extra for a couple of splashes of Tabasco and a few pieces of charcoalized bacon courtesy of the salamander. The iceberg lettuce was bitter beyond description and should not have been served. The high point were the oysters and a seasoned immigrant bus staff that knew how to deliver table service in the setting of a flailing wait staff.
My father and I used to have The Oceanaire at the top of our list for the best eating in Indy. We came from Fort Wayne a lot on business and loved to treat the guys working for us with an awesome meal here and even come down for a special night with our families. However, I surprised my wife for her birthday this past weekend and brought her here for the first time and felt like they fell short. I had informed them ahead of time that it was her birthday and even though they had some very nice surprises, like a free desert, they didn't seem on their "A Game" that night. They didn't have menus ready to go, and typically they have a personalized menu for a birthday night, but that wasn't ready to go either, and it came out to us as we were leaving. (unfortunately we just threw it away). The waiter was super nice, but we informed him of it being my wife's first time and instead of explaining the menu he just gave us a lot of time to look at it. That was disappointing, because I had built up their staff to my wife saying they took pride in knowing so much about the seafood and that it was always brought in fresh and instead of feeling like we had an expert in food in front of us, it felt like a normal joe wait staff. Lastly, the food was good, but nothing to remember in particularly. I wasn't "wowed" with flavor like i used to be with the food or specialty drinks. The creativity was lacking. Again, if this was some mid level seafood place, I think I would have been pleased, but for a meal in their price category, the value wasn't their anymore. My wife is from Chicago and we have been spoiled with some unbelievable food and experience for a lot less. I hate to say I am reconsidering coming back.
First time that my wife dined at Oceanaire and the dining experience was phenomenal! ALL facets of our visit were incredible from the moment we walked in the door!
If there were 10 stars I would give Oceanaire all 10!
Kudos to such a fine restaurant! You folks made our evening and a very special 41st Anniversary celebration!
We WILLbe back again very soon!
We had a 7:30 reservation for 5 people, two showed @ 7:20 and the balance at 7:35. They gave our table away and told us to get a drink and they would seat us right away. The bar is basically dysfunctional as the person in front of me waited for 15 minutes and the bar tender would not acknowledge him, bar staff is too small for the size of the place. Eventually they came over to tell us they were getting our table together, after 10 minutes we approached the hostess and she said they were waiting for us to come to them. We were literally 5 feet away!! Once to the table, the first drinks took at least 5 minutes to get. But I will say our server was very good, pleasant person and reasonably attentive.
We make it a point to have dinner at the Oceannaire in Indianapolis when traveling from Florida to one or two Colts games every year, and for some other occasions. There are generally 6 to 10 in our party. We have always found it to have great food and great service.
On this rare occasion our server let us down, but the attentive eye of Manager Sheryl Parks righted the wrong and made us feel like valued customers. Sheryl knows who you are and can review your dining history in her computer.
This is an ace-high establishment with ace-high management! We highly recommend if you want a first class dining experience. We will be back!
My fresh grilled fish was “melt in your mouth” good. Don’t skip the hash brown potatoes “a la Oceanaire.” They are amazing. We also loved the Brussels sprouts—delicious with bacon and seasoning. Mmmm! Server was knowledgeable about all the different fish and preparations and recommended great wine options. Quiet and romantic atmosphere.
The service was incredible. The entrees were just right in portion as well as presentation and taste. The waitress was extremely helpful in navigating the menu and made numerous suggestions even ordering our dessert without our knowledge. A fantastic surprise of Baked Alaska which was perfect even though my wife is allergic to chocolate but found the pumpkin ice cream and flamed marshmallow delightfully decedent.
