Oceanaire Seafood Room - Houston Ratings and Reviews
This Landry's hot spot does not disappoint. Meals were thoughtfully presented and delightfully prepared. From the seafood offerings to the steaks, the choices are fairly endless. The chicken fried lobster was an amazing feat and quite a plentiful platter. The 6oz. filet mignon was smooth in texture and rich in flavor. Truffle mashed potatoes as a side were a standout. German chocolate cake in the dessert offerings offered a nice firm chocolate cake that held up nicely against a thick cocoa icing (atypical, but very much appreciated), and typical coconut, pecan, sugar, butter, egg yolk filling (which is typically the frosting.)
Service on the other hand was rather off with our waitress. There were a few other table attendants, one Hispanic gentleman for water refills, and an individual that appeared to be at a manager's level. The two male staff were much more attentive to the table and we noted that to the former. Our waitress omitted to refill beverages, check back to verify food orders, and was pretty much awol for most of the meal. We observed her standing and having rather longish conversations with another co-worker. Obviously work was not uppermost on her mind that night. We were especially surprised when we noted to our waitress of two food allergies for one member of our party. Typically most restaurants are fairly sensitive and send over a manager to discuss and confirm that these ingredients will not be present in any individual or shared dishes. This was not the case. As a matter of fact it was only through trial and error did we find that the asparagus side for the table contained an allergy trigger for the one member of our party. Definitely a faux pas of the restaurant.
The food was good, the view was lovely (looking out onto passing Westheimer traffic), and the value also good.
Some of the best Dover Sole i have ever eaten. Doug, our waiter, pick out a beautiful fish that was also very large. It was cooked perfectly and served with lump crabmeat lemon butter. We could barely finish it.
All the seafood I have ever had here has been outstanding!
The food was excellent. My guest and I are very picky when it comes to seafood and not only was it fresh but it was presented and paired perfectly. The waitstaff could not be more accommodating and the modern interior is a sight to see. It is truly a one-of-a-kind place in Houston. Not a bad location either.
This is a gorgeous restaurant, and we love the atmosphere. I've been here many times for business meetings during the day (office is in the Galleria Tower II,) and I was looking forward to coming for dinner with my boyfriend.
The evening got off to a rough start when the hostess said she didn't see our reservation. I had to show her my confirmation email, and, even then, she kept saying it wasn't there, and she didn't see it. She seemed a bit put off by the situation. I then showed her my Open Table app and showed that the reservation was still there. Quite suddenly, it appeared on her screen, and she seated us.
Our server was very polished and professional. The appetizers were fantastic: the oysters were fresh and briny, and the octopus was fabulous. But the entrees for both of us were somewhat disappointing. We both found our seafood (his scallops and my shrimp and lobster) to be quite overdone - just to the point of rubbery. Also disappointing is that I ordered the cauliflower, and it came out topped with breadcrumbs, which was not mentioned in the otherwise thorough description.
Elegant and beautiful ambiance. The service was outstanding. Our server, Bryce, was knowledgeable and understood our taste in food and wine immediately. He steered us in the right direction through our appetizer, entree choices, cocktail and wine selections. A memorable fine dining experience!
We came early for Happy Hour then were promptly seated at our table. I️ loved the personalized menus. The service was decent, but it could have been better. The waiter gave good service but he almost seemed as if he didn’t want to be there. A smile goes a long way. My steak came out very undercooked and they sent it back and brought out a new steak but by that time my husband was finished with his food. (I️ told him to eat because his food was getting cold) The food was really good. Mac and Cheese was amazing! All in all we would come back but only for happy hour.
For the prices I expected better.
I ordered the beef short ribs and I swear my meal size was meant for a toddler. I was finished in 2 bites and worst of all it was not flavorful. My husband's meal was full of so much garnish that he forgot he ordered a shrimp dish. But I must say he said it was flavorful. I also expected the chocolate cake not to be ice cold, because I would have never asked for ice cream. The waitress should have warned us of this.
As far as service, our waitress was more attentive to a larger table but we still left her a nice tip. I was disappointed that she stated she was bringing a bowl for my husband to put empty seafood shells in but never returned. I was most disappointed that we had to ask other wait staff for several items that we had asked her for.
I doubt we will ever return to this restaurant.
My friends and I went for New Years Eve Dinner. Ordered appetizers and Entrees. We received our entrees but not the appetizers. It was pretty busy in there so I don’t know if the waiter forgot to put that in out order or if our appetizers ended up at another table. The entrees however were delicious!
We went to Oceanaire for our anniversary. The food was superb and the service even better. We had a lovely evening and even were treated to a delicious Baked Alaska. Would highly recommend even though the prices are a little high. Wonderful for a special occasion.
We had an exceptional waiter (Doug) who made many recommendations, all of them good.
Outstanding oysters I had never heard of called Great Whites. I haven't seem them on any other oyster menu in the area. But everything was cooked to our order and I believe every plate was cleaned. WAP!!
Our non profit group hosted our annual Christmas dinner here this year. Meridith was awesome. She was flexible, customized our menu with our group name, courteous, and professional. Our server Andre was phenomenal- so attentive, knowledgeable, patient with our questions, took our picture, and was professional as well. Great night with a pretty backdrop of Westheimer St. from the alcove table!
We waited an hour before our dinner order was taken. We realize that there were numerous holiday gatherings that evening but we were in celebrating our anniversary and didn’t expect such poor service. The manager did step in and take our order. Dinner and dessert were comped. No excuse for such poor service.
We have been dining at Oceanaire for many years and will continue to do so. We were slightly taken aback as the menu has changed with some traditional options being replaced by somewhat adventurous items. Putting trepidation aside we ordered and all enjoyed their selections.
