Oceanaire Seafood Room - Denver Ratings and Reviews
Mediocre food and slow service given the price.
We went to Oceanaire before the opera. Got there at 5:30pm to be safe. The night started well with an attentive server and quick service. However, as the night progressed and the restaurant got more crowded, it went downhill. Food took a long time to come out - even an oyster appetizer that should take no time at all. Waiter kept apologizing and we could hear him scold the other wait staff. Awkward.
The food was also mediocre for the price. We ordered the Halibut and John Dory for the Chef's Specialties. Both were bland/unseasoned and dry. With the poor service, it seems that they may have been sitting under a heat lamp for a while (thus the dryness). Disappointing for $30-40 fish entrees at a seafood restaurant.
Wouldn't go again.
THIS WAS OUR FIRST TIME AT OCEANAIRE-THE FOOD WAS PHENOMENAL AS WAS THE SERVICE. OUR SERVERWAS EXTREMELY KNOWLEDGABLE REGARDING THE APPETIZERS, ENTREES, SIDES AS WELL AS WINE PAIRINGS.
HAD WE NOT BEEN COMMITTED TO ATTENDING THE OPERA WE WULD HAVE STAYED FOR ADDITIONAL PORT AND DESSERTS! WE HAVE NOW FOUND A NEW FAVORITE RESTAURANT.
I asked our server if the crab cakes were up to snuff (no fillers, meaty, lots of lump crabmeat) and he reported that even customers from Maryland thought they were better than home-state crab cakes. So of course I ordered them. And he was absolutely right - they were the best I've ever had!
It's a pricey restaurant but the portions and quality and superior to many other restaurants. Excellent seafood!
Service was impeccable, and the best attribute of the restaurant. I knew Oceanaire was a chain restaurant, but it didn't feel that way. Excellent food. Only downside are the hours of operation. On a Saturday night they were only open from 5 - 10 pm. We had a 5 pm reservation, along with about 10 other people, and we all were standing outside until they finally opened the doors at straight up 5 pm. Kind of weird. And then we were going to stop by for a drink after the theater, but they closed promptly at 10 pm. What bar closes in downtown Denver at 10 pm? Unfortunate.
This is the second time that we have had such poor service. One of the reasons we would go to this restaurant was for the highly competent and responsive service. Once again our server's name tag had no name; a clear sign of not being experienced with the restaurant. Our cocktails and drinks were very slow in being served. Our appetizer plate and my Individual plate was never picked up, I had to put it to the side on the bench. Our server didn't serve our dinner which is poor for this restaurant. My client was served an appetizer of the scallops but I was charged $40 for a scallop dinner. My fish was very thin and too well done; and my husband's halibut didn't smell fresh. Once again our plates were left to get cold when we were done and the manager had to finally pick them up. We used to love going to this place and wanted to make a good impression with our clients, this was not the case that evening. I do not recommend taking any business clients.
We thank the restaurant for holding our reservation for half an hour. Traffic was snarled due to an accident. My "Manhattan" was good but short. We had fried calamari for an appetizer. It was mainly fried coating with very little calamari..extremely disappointing. The John Dory was overcooked, the truffle fries should be advertised as shoestring and the steak was the size of a roast but good. We have eaten at the Oceanaire in Indianapolis and it was far above in quality and service as compared to this one in Denver. To top it off, the valet service should be terminated for a severe lack of professionalism. I would not recommend this Oceanaire to anyone.
Great deal on a meal. My husband and I started out with Caesar salad, I had the sole, he had the salmon, he had a salted caramel sundae and I had a turtle cheesecake. All that, and a bottle of red wine for only $60. I love it when they have their special meals.
The only drawback was I asked for more lemons for my fish--I got several wedges (hoorah) but none of them had been seeded. In a restaurant of this fine quality, I expect seeded lemons.
I had a horrible experience at a place that has been good in the past. Service was slow. They were out of lettuce (really!!!). Out of my selection of wine. Trying to hail a waiter was a feat. We cancelled our fish entree because we had waited 30 minutes for it. Very disappointing.
Since I've been to the Oceanaire Seafood Room - MN, which is their flagship place and a 5 star worthy restaurant, I'd have to rate the one in Denver a 2 star. While the food (I had oysters and King crab) were fair, the dinning area service was horrible - other than the waiters at the bar area. My waiter doesn't follow the details of my order and failed to let me know that there was a missing item.
I still tipped handsomely out of courtesy, and would still dine there because it is so close to my hotel, but bad service is bad service. Hopefully the Oceanaire Seafood Room - Denver will take a note.
Oceanaire has by far the freshest seafood available. The oysters and fried calamari, chicken fried lobster, and vegetarian plate were absolutely wonderful. The halibut, however, was overcooked. It was made with the dynamite topping (crab base) and was dry and appeared as if it sat in the broiler too long. I was only able to eat half of the fish on my plate and quietly dug out the softer pieces. It was a business dinner and I didn't want to make a fuss but this restaurant should have someone checking every dish that comes out, especially at that price point. I'm amazed that dish was able to get past your kitchen. I'd skip this location.
Our waiter , Louis, was wonderful, attentive without being annoying, knowledgeable, warm. The crab legs were perfect, I appreciated having it shelled, but got 4 pcs of shell. My husbands salmon was beautifully flavored, but overcooked. The truffle potatoes were rich & decadent. Wine list good. Timing, atmosphere very good. The chocolate cake was so very good- over the top; a pour of warm caramel and one of hot fudge over that on presentation. Appreciated the warm towels at the end. Memorable.
We have wanted to visit this restaurant for some time. The staff was very friendly and our server, Mindy, was excellent. The food was prepared to our liking and delicious. For my birthday dessert they served Baked Alaska. It was the best we have had anywhere and worth going back just for it. We will be back.
My husband and I are new to Denver and have never been landlocked before! We were craving some good seafood and that's exactly what we got! It was fresh and expertly prepared. Our waiter was on point, giving us fantastic recommendations throughout the night. We will be back!!
We dined here before the symphony and as always, it was a wonderful dining experience. We shared a whole fish plus started with oysters and salads, with wines to pair. Excellent wait staff and environment. Staff is very aware of getting you out on time for the local events.
The restaurant is located in a busy section of downtown Denver. If there are other activities downtown, parking and traffic can be a challenge! When we arrived at 6pm the valet was not available, but there was not a place to pull over to the curb without obstructing traffic. The restaurant front door was locked (even though they open at 5pm). We wondered if they were closed! After circling the block several times, the valet appeared. Similarly, after the dinner, the valet was caught in "event" traffic and it took 25 minutes to retrieve our car.
The food was tasty and well prepared. Everything is very pricey - not a place anyone on a budget. The waiter server was knowledgeable and attentive. Overall a pleasant evening.
Alaskan King Crab legs , Alaskan Wild Halibut "Dynamite" and Sesame Seared Rare Hawaiian Ahi Tuna were excellent and very fresh! Great cocktails and environment.
Louis was an excellent waiter. No only was he
knowledgeable but served just right: At the table enough to give excellent service but not so much to pester you like many other waiters in fine dining establishments. When I am in Denver I will definitely go back.
Just awful all the way around. We sat at a table in the middle of the room. Waiters bumped into us as they served the other table multiple times. When someone sitting at the other table got up their chair slammed into our table we were so close.
Our waited tried to explain how to order wine to us when we clearly ordered a glass. He bombarded us with unnecessary chit chat and questions constantly so it was difficult to enjoy our dinner conversation. The food was only passable.
