We went to have a special date night and selected Oceanaire because we’d never been there.
I made a reservation. It being a Saturday night I was surprised that there were so few diners. We were seated and everything was fine until my guest’s drink, an “Arnold Palmer” arrived. He took a sip and it was VERY tart. I love tart, so he asked me if I would try it. I did, and it was difficult to swallow. Way too tart! The waiter brought another one, but it was the same.
The appetizer arrived and was great. Crab cakes.
The salad was a Wedge, to be split between us. It came as one salad, and we sent it back to be split. The dinner arrived before the salad came back. My dinner, Halibut, was great. My dates was a 6 ounce filet and Lobster tail. The filet was fine, but the lobster tail looked strange, and when my date tried it he said it was very “mushy”. I tasted it and it was mushy. It had no texture, wasn’t firm enough to dip into the drawn butter... we had a show to get to, so the waiter comped the lobster part of the meal and gave us a dessert to go. Very nice of him. The bread pudding was awful, though!
I’m not a complainer; I graduated from DU with a major in hospitality management. I worked as a bus girl and then waitressed for years. I know it’s hard work, and a big part is all the different systems being coordinated. The chef, cooks, bartenders, wait staff, management, etc... but I was very disappointed. The bill was as much as it would have been at The Capital Grill, which I love...but wanted to expand my horizons!
Then, my bad, I forgot to bring my credit card so my date had to pay.
Maybe it was an off night. That happens. I’d like to give it another try, maybe with a girlfriend rather than a guy who I wanted to wow. Less pressure. He won’t take my money, and would be embarrassed if he knew I contacted you. But I thought I’d send a review. I don’t go out nearly as much as I once did, so if it’s a super nice restaurant then I expect it to be very good
Truly fantastic, I’ll go back as much as I can!! Just wow!!
My wife and I really enjoyed this restaurant. We highly recommend it for any sea food lover.
The foods was amazing. I have been there several times. Unfortunately, I had an issue with your valet. They broke my BMW window and decided it was ok to yell at me and tell me that my car was old. I have not been able to in touch with them. I have reached out to channel 4, 7 and 9 to get this issue resolved since they wont return my calls.
James our server made our night relaxed and enjoyable. The Halibut he recommended was perfectly prepared. He knew we had a show to make and kept us on time without me feeling rushed. A truly memorable evening. Pricey, but this was expected looking at the menu ahead of time. This likely discourages too much traffic (seemed full when we were there but not crazy-busy).
We picked Oceanaire Seafood for our meal before the theater as they have a free appetizer deal for theater subscribers. Per the recommendations on the Oceanaire website, we made our reservation for two hours before we needed to be at the theater, which is just across the street. We arrived and got our table on time, and the server greeted us and asked if we were going to the theater. Perfect, we thought! She asked for our drink order and for most of the meal, the server was very attentive.
Our main dish came out at 6:30 which was great leaving plenty of time for dessert and coffee before we had to leave. However, that was the last time we saw our server. We finished our main course by about 6:50 still leaving us with 25 minutes to still get to the show. However, at 7:10, our server had not been back to our table and I had to track her down just to get the bill.
When I received the bill, the appetizer had not been credited so that took extra time to deal with that.
We very much enjoyed the food and as I said, the timing was great until the main course.
Not sure what the issue was, but for the expensive menu, we would expect better.
Our waitress was pleasant, but the ORock were overcooked, the MRare filet came out past medium and the asparagus was cooked lifeless.
On the bright side, the Ahi and the lobster pasta were good and the baked alaska desert was good.
We really enjoyed our evening! It was GLORIOIS to find truly fresh seafood, not an easy task in the Denver area. The blue point oysters and my AHI were delicious and I was surprised how much I enjoyed thehouse made vinegrette salad dressing. The atmosphere is a bit old school with jazz music lightly playing in the background but the clientele were of all ages. Our server, Zack, was friendly and informative.
A delicious meal before the theater. Food was fabulous and staff was conscious of our time limitations.
We love coming here before plays and for special occasions. Always a lovely time.
The food and service were amazing! We will be back
Solid seafood restaurant. Good menu, pretty space, overly formal but accomodating service if a bit slow. High end, chain, I believe and certainly not value focused but I accept that.
A very disappointing dining experience. After very good salads and a nice, but small, "complimentary" relish tray, our two friends each had entrees which they enjoyed. However, the entrée my wife and I shared, a pasta with lobster was poor - very creamy but with little flavor. When I told the waiter, after we had finished, that I felt the dish didn't measure up, he said that he would tell the chef, but offered no regrets and offered no compensation. We all decided to share desserts, key lime pie and peanut butter pie. They sounded great and the portions were very large. However, again, while very rich and creamy, both were flavorless. It seems that Oceanaire mistakes "buttery" and "creamy" with "flavorful." Overall a mediocre meal at very high end prices.
Excellent fresh seafood prepared perfect with a good wine list to complement it! The staff was knowledgeable and helpful.
Way overpriced for the amount of food given. I ordered medium rare and the 6 oz filet came out medium. The order was filet and shrimp. I received three shrimp (not jumbo) with the filet and maybe 4 forkfuls of chopped asparagus. What I described is valued at $44. I value that as highway robbery.
We celebrated our 34th wedding Anniversary on Saturday evening at Oceanaire. The food was spectacular as was the service. We had a wonderful experience!
Once again, Oceanaire was excellent. We've come to depend on enjoying the fresh seafood, especially the oysters!
Of course, the service was superb!
Way overpriced. Vegetables too much oil
The Oceanaire has consistently wonderful food, which is matched by outstanding service. It has elegance, energy and ambiance, without being too noisy for conversing. If you are going to the Denver Center Arts Complex, it is very convenient.
Attentive service and interesting food preparations
As a regular at The Oceanaire San Diego, I can attest to their consistency in quality food. The Oceanaire Denver is 180 degrees from consistent. My 2nd visit was on Easter Sunday. The restaurant was almost empty so I would expect piping hot, fresh food. Not so much. Cold mashed potatoes and dry, tasteless halibut. Huge disappointment. Will not be returning to the Denver location.
Entertained out of town friends after Hamilton. So convenient to the theatre district. Had reservations and restaurant called the day before to confirm and ask if we had any special requests or needs. Table and server were ready at time of reservation. Waiter was very knowledgeable and patient and expertly answered all our questions. Very responsive to our needs. Food was excellent and well prepared.
Really enjoyed our pre-theatre dinner. Service was great for the most part. We appreciated the staff reserving the exact booth we requested on Open Table! The waiter asked about our evening plans, then delivered timely service to accommodate our theater plans.
Enjoyed the gin and tonic with bitters that the waiter recommended over my usual Tanq and tonic. It took a while though for the bar to hunt down their Johnny Walker Black for my husband, but they finally came through. Not the most well stocked bar, it seems. We plowed through the fresh bread and seasoned butter as we waited. A complimentary ‘fresh’ but not really veggie plate was placed before us. Surprisingly everything on it had an old, musty odor and taste.
The pan-fried John Dory fish entree was excellent as were the crab cakes. Also enjoyed the mashed potato side with truffles.
The location is very convenient for theater goers. Unfortunately their valet was very slow in fetching our car after the theater, even though there were just a few people waiting ahead of us. It was a long 20 minutes as we waited in the cold and wind.
It seems beggars still can’t be choosy in Denver, and it’s not the place to go if you’re seeking perfection. Overall, though, it was a pleasant experience. We will return to try other things on their extensive menu.
Not residents of Denver, but recommended to us by a relative and Denver resident. Extremely professional waitperson. Very good food and large appetizer portions — a pleasant surprise. Great location when going to the Performing Arts venue.
We dined at the Oceanaire on Saturday night prior to going to the theatre. For appetizers we ordered the crab cocktail-this was terrible. It is basically knuckle meat from the crab that we would normally throw way. We also ordered the calamari. I wouldn't order that again. The peppers that were in with the calamari were much better than the squid itself The swordfish and steak we ordered topped with the dynamite topping were both awful-ruined by the sweet sauce on the plate. The creamed corn side dish was the best thing on the table.
Our meal was extremely expensive and not worth it. The service was good. The food was not. We will not be back.
Food is overpriced and service can be improved. Wasn't worth the spend.
My in-laws were treating my husband and I for our 40th birthdays, so we suggested the Oceanaire for dinner. The food was fantastic--who knew you could get such a great variety of delicious fish in a land-locked state like Colorado? But it was a bit pricier than the typical restaurant my husband and I would go to for a regular date night--with appetizers, entrees, dessert and wine we easily spent $100/person. We went on a Friday night, just after 7pm, and almost had the restaurant to ourselves because most tables had cleared out to make their 7:30pm theater start times across the street.
As always, we enjoyed excellent service! We each had the best steaks ever — in a seafood restaurant! Fabulous! Highly recommended!
I'm very happy that Oceaniers is a Laundry restaurant. Our food, wait staff and dinner was very enjoyable. We will be going back.
We tried Oceannaire a few years ago when it first opened and it was ridiculously expensive. We decided to try it again since it is across from the DCPA and we were going to see Hamilton, plus it was good Friday so we needed to eat seafood. What a great decision. My husband had the most delicious and fresh swordfish (a very large portion) simply grilled to perfection with lemon butter and I had the miso/mushroom topped mahi mahi which was one of the best thing I have ever tasted, and it also came with delicious Brussel sprouts. Both dishes were around $35, which for fresh and high quality and unique dishes is very reasonable. We split the chopped salad, again, a very nice sized portion, and each had a glass of wine and the bill came in around $100. The place was NOT packed, so I think they need to work hard to get customers like us back. Next time I will try their oysters. Everyone around us raved at how delicious the ones they ordered were, so we were jealous. Really beautiful atmosphere, excellent sourdough bread and excellent service! Just a fabulous evening since Hamilton was also amazing!
We always enjoy going to Oceanaire! They are so friendly, accommodate special requests, and make you feel very well cared-for. The food, service and ambiance are all very nice! Love it!
Smaller selection on the menu. Ordered dessert. Carmel cake, it came with ice cream. We didn’t eat much so we asked to take it with us. He asked if we wanted the ice cream and we replied no because it would melt all over. So after taking it back to the hotel, we did not end up eating it. 2 days later when we started packing and picking up the room, I was careful with the box so I wouldn’t spill the melted ice cream that was NOT supposed to be put into the box. Well little to my surprise, the ice cream WASNT melted at all just a scoop still on the top of the cake. After 2 days!?? YUCK, what is in the “ice cream”??
Had a great time. Waiter was awesome and the wait staff was very attentive. Dinner was delicious.
service made meal all that more enjoyable. very good find!!!
Very good food and the service was excellent. A good variety of entrees and some unique dishes.
This was our first time at Oceanaire; we will definitely be returning soon. We were looking for a seafood restaurant on a Friday during Lent. We hit the jackpot! The food was just lovely. We all had seafood and everything was cooked to perfection. The two women in the group shared the whole Branzino....definitely enough for two people. The sourdough bread was amazing! The surprise of the night here was the service. From the moment we walked in, to the five minutes we were waiting for our car, everyone we came in contact with was exceptional. That's not an easy thing to find lately in the growing city of Denver. Although we will return for the food, the excellent service is what we will look forward to....knowing that we will be taken care of throughout the evening.
Our server, James, was fantastic, and the food was fabulous.
Went for Lobster extravaganza which was awesome. Added oysters. All excellent.
Amazing dining experience, Great atomosphere, service was above and beyond Definitely coming back
