Oceanaire Seafood Room - Denver Ratings and Reviews
This restaurant has outstanding food and terrific service. However the lighting is very "blue" and too dark, hindering the customer's ability to see the beautiful food presentation that the chef has prepared. That is a real shame because the food is first class and wonderfully prepared. Any great chef knows that the visual presentation is an integral part of the preparation and serving of a fantastic meal. Fix the lighting and this restaurant goes to the absolute top.
We dined before going to the theater. The service was professional. The food was delightful with great combinations of spices. We were also celebrating a birthday so they suggested Baked Alaska. It was s very creative version. We will definitely return to this restaurant in the future.
Everything was great, but most of all I REALLY appreciate the hostess for observing the seating request I entered online when making the reservation - not all places do this (and I think some go out of their way to NOT give you what you asked for), but our booth at Oceanaire was absolutely perfect and exactly what I'd asked for! :)
Would not order clam chowder or calamari again. Nothing wrong with them, just not to our liking.
Definitely order west coast Oysters on the half shell again and cold crab leg appetizer.
Root beer float with root beer Schnapps was a great way to end the evening
The service was terrible, my husband and I both ordered our steaks medium but they came out raw, so we sent them back and we had our sides were on her plate when they went back but when they brought the steaks back out our sides were gone, I had to ask our terrible waiter for sides again by the time they came back out my steak was cold. I had 3 bites and tossed it....what a waste of money!
We usually always go to Capitol Grille but I thought we would try something new wow was that a mistake!
The manager didn't even come over and apologize for the issues we had that night...poor service and a poor establishment!
We went for NYE to celebrate and started with two appetizers courses: the chefs oyster selection and charred octopus which were both delicious. We both tried a cup of clam chowder which was also mouth watering and one of the best chowder I have tried here in Denver, and comes close to the clam chowders that I had in San Francisco if not better. By the time our entree came we were glad we stuck with the cub of chowder and not the bowl because we were getting stuffed. He had the crab ravioli which was very tasty, and I went with the waiter recommendation for that evening’s special. I thought the special of deep fried whole fish okay. There wasn’t a whole lot of flavor to it. I wished I tried something else. Overall, we had a fun evening, the staff were super friendly and food was fantastic. I would definitely come back and just order oysters all night long.
Wonderful experience. Excellent and knowledgeable server who took the time to explain the menu and answer all of our questions. Did not make us feel rushed even though it was NYE. Also celebrated a birthday and they had my aunt’s name printed on the menus with Happy Birthday when we arrived at our table. Also received complimentary Baked Alaska dessert for my aunts birthday. It was phenomenal! James was our server and he was amazing. Will be definitely be going back and requesting him as our Server again.
They had our drink order wrong two times in a row, they also had our oyster order wrong two times in a row and normally this is not the service that we receive here. It was disappointing. They said they had a issue with their order system in the back. This was a technology issue apparently. However this is the best restaurant in Denver for seafood! We will continue to come
The crab cocktail, shrimp cocktail and crab cakes were spectacular. Caesar salads were Ok. The donut bread pudding was a nice twist on a predictable dessert. Cocktails were excellent. The side dishes offered on the strictly ala carte menu were so boring we did not bother ordering any. The service was excellent but of all four people at the hostess station as we left - not one bothered to open or hold the door for my wife who walks with a cane and is clearly mobility challenged. The host staff almost never opens the door when you come in or exit - they tend to stand there and watch you struggle with both sets of heavy doors. We’ve been coming here for 10 years and the staff was formerly much more attentive -especially given a check of at least $200 for two.
I was very disappointed in Oceanaire. It was a special occasion - the matinee at the Buell and then a nice dinner with my husband. I explained to our waiter that I was gluten-free, dairy-free at the beginning, and asked him what farro was. He insisted it was like quinoa, an ancient, GF grain. When he came back to take our order he repeated that, so I assumed he had double checked, and ordered the dish with farro. When I started having stomach problems in the middle of the night I googled it, to discover it is ancient wheat grains, and not GF at all. I called the restaurant the next day to tell them, so the waiter could get properly informed. The manager I spoke to didn't believe me, and didn't even attempt an apology until the chef had confirmed that farro has gluten. His apology at that point was half-hearted. He said he would have another manger, his boss, contact me, but nothing has happened. I am shocked that an up-market restaurant in Denver, Colorado would have such a cavalier attitude towards food allergies. What if I had celiac disease, which fortunately I don't have, and the consequences had been more dire? Otherwise the food was ok, but not spectacular, and I definitely would not recommend it, or return.
My sister and I came here for a pre theater dinner. We had a cozy booth which was nice. Our waiter did an excellent job, made some good recommendations. We both had trout which was delicious. The only thing that could have been better would be if the entrees came with the side dishes. Otherwise a very nice evening.
My family and I were in Denver for the Christmas holiday. On Christmas, we all agreed to try this restaurant since Neither of us visited the location in Houston,TX. We were a party of 7. I made reservations due to our party size and the fact that it was Christmas Day.
We were highly offended that we were placed in the back corner of the restaurant and to add insult to injury our waiter continued to make comments regarding our finances. He would say things like “ you should try this because this is budget friendly “ or stay within your budget. Or “I’m trying to help you have a nice dinner that won’t cost so much”. He practically derailed my mother from selecting a wine of her choice because it was on the “high end” of the list.
We listened to him as he spoke to other customers and the vigor in which he spoke to us was not the same.
We are far from rich however, everyone seated at my table with the exception of the 2 minors could/can afford to be there. We are established Attorney’s, Accountants and a Computer Engineer. We chose to eat there that night because, as I stated;we were in Denver for the Holiday. Our bill totaled close to $600.00 without gratuity. Yet, we were treated like we shouldn’t have even had a seat in the restaurant. It was so appalling, We had to have a conversation with my 11 year old daughter about racism and how it doesn’t matter how much money you make, or how educated you are, in this day and age, you will be judged by the color of your skin. Nevertheless, after this encounter we will pass on eating at the Houston Location.
First time patrons for Christmas dinner. Upon arriving, the restaurant was very cold, the hostess was wearing a sweater and had a space heater. Walking in, I noticed other people with their coats on. The service was very slow. Ordered appetizers, brussel sprouts were over cooked and hard, the potato au gratin were the best out of the entire meal. The Cesar salad was drenched with dressing. The dinner special was chicken fried lobster, the batter was not cooked fully and the lobster meat was very stringy. The grits were tasty and the creme brulee dessert was good. Overall it was an average if that dinner.
