Oceanaire Seafood Room - Denver Ratings and Reviews
Went for pre theater at Denver Performing Arts and informed the server of time requirement. She watched the time, got our food out in plenty of time for us to enjoy it - food was terrific; service was fantastic - everything could not have been better. and we just walked across street to the performance.
We waited a full 40 minutes before getting our drinks and almost an hour before appetizers even though there were only a few other people in the restaurant. Most of the tables were empty that night. Also, the crab pasta was unbelievably loaded with heavy cream and grease. So much so that the noodles were swimming in it. Heart attack on a plate.
As usual, my husband and I had a wonderful time. I rated it a little less because it was overbooked due to multiple shows that night. Or oysters and entrees came out at nearly the same time and our salad and soup came out last. My water, my only drink, was not filled and I had to drink from my husbands. Our plates were not cleared well.
The server was excellent about informing us of the delay and back up but, still, it wasn’t the same top notch service as usual.
However, we will go back. Great ambiance, fantastic food, good wine choices and server was knowledgeable about a better pairing. I strongly recommend. I think it was just a very busy night.
My wife and I had dinner before going to a Colorado Symphony performance. Our waiter asked if we were going to a show and what time. He made sure everything was paced appropriately. We shared the lobster cakes which were very tasty. My wife had the squash soup and a side of mashed potatoes. The squash soup was very rich. A bowl was too much. I had the seared Ahi Tuna which was excellent. I had a great Manhattan before dinner and the special Baileys and Coffee for desert. Everything from the bar was fantastic.
Overcooked John Dory fish (6 oz for $33 is almost beyond ridiculous - that would make that fish $88 if we had ordered a pound). My shrimp (again, overcooked and grits like plaster of Paris) was in a gelatinous sauce. Both of those courses arrived AFTER our appetizers of oysters and squash soup. The waiter stated if “the fish isn’t fresh when it arrives from the vendor, we turn them away at the back door” - all very noble but if the fish is overcooked what difference does it make? This is a pretentious presentation of just average food. They are fortunately placed across the street from the Performing Arts venues - which will keep them in business but sadly, the obvious effort to turn a one-star menu into a five-star restaurant fools no one. All wait staff was kind and helpful, overworked and running from table to table. We left anxious, hungry, and disappointed.
I made my reservation through Open Table. I had indicated that the reservation was for a special romantic date My girlfriend and I came down from Longmont and ,due to traffic, arrived a little late. No worries, we were immediately seated at an intimate booth.
We ordered the shrimp and grits appetizer and a Caesar salad. I am from Georgia and these were some of the best shrimp and grits I have ever had. The dressing for the salad was clearly freshly made.
My striped bass and my girlfriend's salmon were both cooked perfectly.
Finally, the super Carmel cake was just amazing.
One of the best date nights in a long time.
Quality seafood with underwhelming presentation. Ahi grade tuna was overpriced for an entree of 7 pieces of rare tuna and two slices of ginger. Roasted cauliflower should have been good but was dried out and inedible. Service was terribly slow. Obviously serves the theater crowd. More like a factory than fine dining.
Excellent quality of the food and it’s preparation. Service swung between spot on and feeling forgotten. It was very busy as several venues were having shows so that might explain the experience with the service. Plan on spending $60 /person with one drink each.
Service and ambiance were great. Food quality and taste does not live up to the pricing. The one exception was the raw oysters, which were the highlight of the meal. The brussel sprouts were a close second. My wife’s steak was not terrible but not the best ever. Our server John was great!
We were delayed in heavy traffic because of the Parade of Lights and yet the folks at Oceanaire were so gracious to hold our table until we finally arrived (30 minutes after our scheduled reservation) and cordially greet us. When we told our servers (James and Haven) that we had theater tickets, they served us promptly, made us feel so welcome, and even squeezed in a special order! Their service was outstanding! Time after time the service and food is fabulous! Thank you Oceanaire! We will be back again.
What a wonderful experience for our early Christmas dinner for my company. The waiter was absolutely amazing. He knew everything about the menu and made great recommendations. The food was awesome! Great place to go if your seeing the a show at the Buell Theater. Thank you again for making our evening so special.
It was open Thanksgiving. Valet at the door. Good waiter, and gave him bigger than usual tip. Food not up to the prices, from oysters on down. Seared Ahi was biggest disappointment--portion too small. Filet Mignon and shrimp was good, as was RI sea bass. For the prices, we all expected superb food and drink, even though it is part of a chain, but we enjoyed being together, and were not rushed.
It took almost an hour, from the time we ordered to when the food arrived. During that time our waiter did not give us an update. We had to ask about our food and the time it took to get. Then when it arrive all we got was, "I know it took a while to get the food, but let's try to enjoy." That was the last time we go there.
Can't say enough about the quality of this place. The attention the staff pays to you is outstanding. The food is always cooked to perfection. We always ask the waiter for suggestions on wine, oysters, and our meal and they always make an amazing choice. Great date place. My wife and I go every year for her birthday before going to a show. The price is worth every penny. I would recommend the Oceanairee to any one.
We were very disappointed with our dinner. Our waiter, while pleasant enough, seemed too concerned with getting other diners out on time for the theater that we did not receive the attention we deserved.
I received an email from the restaurant- I am a Landry’s VIP- announcing their Dover Sole special, which is the only reason we went to Oceanaire. We
Ordered the Sole, and 40 mins. later we were informed that they were “out” of the sole. It was quite a surprise since they just added to their menu. After speaking to the manager, they found more sole. Turns out, the chef was “too busy” to cut more of it earlier. So we changed our order agin and got the sole.
I was not surprised when it was delivered and was lukewarm, lacking much flavor and no where near the quality I expected nor up to the standards of Dover Sole at other restaurants.
They made no adjustment to our-bill, nor did we receive anything to help mitigate our poor service.
Sadly, this was not our first bad experience here.
We will NOT return to Oceanaire.
My service experience has always been wonderful at Oceanaire. They are very prompt with my need to have a nice meal and leave for the theater or symphony etc. They are pricey but worth every penny for the care they take in service and the food is always fresh. It satisfies my seafood craving and they are good at splitting meals. The managers are attentive and they take criticism well. I am a frequent diner as I get the gift cards at KS for the 4x fuel points and then cash in at the restaurant. It is good to be a Landry's card holder as well.
