Oceanaire Seafood Room - DC Ratings and Reviews
My husband and I were disappointed with our visit to Oceanaire. It was our anniversary, and we had hoped for a better experience! Our waiter was not at all attentive, and when he did appear at our table, he talked incessantly. The food was good, however, I ordered the Dover sole, which I have had numerous times at other exclusive restaurants. At Oceanaire, the price was ridiculously high, especially for the amount of fish that the waiter removed in the deboning process: essentially, the entire middle of the fish was removed because it was "raw": unheard of!
I think service was just off that night. Our server was friendly but repeatedly forgot to bring the wine that was included in my wine flight. Also our check was wrong. We were double charged for a steak that we had to send back. I also felt like there was a miscommunication on what we ordered and it was deliberate. We ordered the king crab legs and I thought we were coming off of the appetizer menu. Instead he recommended one off of the entre menu which was twice the price. While it was delicious it was an unexpected charge. When we receive the check he said “was there a miscommunication?” My steak was the wrong temperature. When we sent it back no one offered to give us fresh sides so that our meal would be the same temperature when it was finally ready. Also the table behind us was very loud. I’ve been here before and enjoyed the experience.
We had a superb experience, celebrating a birthday with good friends. Our server, “V,” was among the very best we have ever had. She was attentive, helpful, experienced, and provided all the extras one would expect from a top restaurant. The food was fresh and beautifully prepared and presented. We will definitely return to see if a second visit is as satisfying as the first.
This was a date night for my wife and I and I must say we thoroughly enjoyed our experience there. Michael was our waiter and he was phenomenal. His food and wine pairings were on point. The food was excellent. This will be one of our go to restaurants on future dates.
Oceanaire has become a regular dining spot for us before attending a show. As has always been the case, the food was outstanding! Had the grilled swordfish with prosciutto wrapped asparagus and my wife had the crab cakes. Choose the truffle whipped potatoes as a shared side - wife and I had differing opinions on this dish. I thought excellent but my wife thought just okay. What was different about our visit this time was the service - it wasn't bad per se, just wasn't impeccable as it has been on our previous trips. Server was not super personable and didn't check in on us throughout the meal, which was terrible since we were his only table at the time - we arrived just before the dinner push as we wanted to make sure we had enough time to get to our show. Also, he didn't offer any insight into the dishes as our previous servers have done - basically just said if you want steak, these are the options - if you want shell fish, these are the options - and these are the options for fish. Perhaps this was just an anomaly as the server was having an off day - hope that to be the case and not a sign that the service overall is slipping... We have another show at the end of the month and whereas we wouldn't even have considered another dining option previously, we are exploring alternatives since it will be so close to our last visit. However, I expect that we will return given the food has always been outstanding, just may not be for our next show.
It was so cold that we kept our winter coats on. The hostess commented, “This is the coldest place in here.” as she walked past our table. Our food turned extremely cold only minutes from arriving at our table due to the extreme draft. We told our server to box our food and give us our key lime pies to go. We stated we were leaving because of the cold. Our server then mentioned, “Oh, we have a heater for this area.” At this point we were ready to go. Our server brought us the bill then told us his assistant was boxing our food and getting our pies. We paid, tipped generously (the temp of the room was not in his control) to arrive home and realize our key lime pies were not in the packaged bag. What a disappointment for $250.00 and that was a tab with no alcohol.
Arrived early for our reservation, they were busy but easily able to seat us. The food is very good. Initially, wait staff were attentive to us, but the only negative was our main course arriving over 30 minutes after our appetizer plates had been removed from the table. A little loud for conversation, but overall a very good seafood meal.
The food was great and the service was outstanding. I'm being a little picky...but my only recommendation would be to add some refinement to the wait staff. As I mentioned the service was great as far as timeliness but I would expect a bit more when paying $300 for dinner for a party of two.
Just outstanding ! This seafood leaning establishment had plenty of additional choices for the land-lubber in any group. On the other hand, with oysters so fresh, char-grilled octopus, and flaky, tender swordfish, this is THE place in the district for a memorable seafood outing. Mike, our waiter, we superb as he guided us through a long and comprehensive menu of delicious choices.
We have visited this restaurant each Christmas. This visit was our last due to our poor experience - all food came out at the same time (appetizer to entree); the waiter was not 'listening' and made mistakes in our order. The atmosphere (though Christmas evening) was very rushed and noisy waitstaff. The Oysters Rock. were simply tasteless; we should have sent them back. Finally, we ordered dessert - the ice cream came out in a dish for eating there, but our cake was packed for take-out. Geez. We will not return.
From top to bottom, one of the most complete and best restaurant experience my wife and I have ever been apart of.
Welcomed immediately with friendly faces and coat check. Then guided to our table where we were delightfully welcomed by our server. After we received our drinks he went over the menu well with us and offered suggestions and answered questions happily and with knowledge.
Our appetizers were perfect as our dinners were exceptional. Had after dinner drinks and coffee and desserts as well.
I will absolutely look forward to returning and would highly recommend for any occasion.
Thanks for an amazing experience.
Everything was perfect from the moment we stepped inside the door. We were a good 45 minutes early for our reservations but we’re seated with no problem. Nelson, our server took great care of us. The food was delicious and abundant. Hubby had Nantucket Scallops and I had Chesapeake Bay crab cakes. We shared grilled asparagus and the bacon steak as our sides. All of it was very good. We are Landrys Select Club members. Once the staff was aware of that they treated us even better and called us Mr. and Mrs. We spoke to a couple of the managers and told them how wonderful everything was. We don’t live in the area but if we’re ever back in DC we’ll definitely return!
