Oceanaire Seafood Room - DC Ratings and Reviews
Went on Saturday night of restaurant week. Each of the 3 courses had numerous choices, which was great. My clam chowder was more like a stew..so chock full of clams and potatoes. My husband enjoyed the large, local oysters. Main course...crab cake for me and swordfish for him came out hit and flavorful. We had creamed corn as a side...more corn in a cream sauce with firm multicolored kernels. Desert was yummy...key lime pie...filling was whipped and the crust was so buttery. Our waiter, Matt, was great.
Me and my friend are both seniors and I was treating her to a birthday lunch, but I was told they only took aarp participant's.
This was her first time visiting Oceanaire and when I asked the waiter about receiving a senior discount he told me that they never give senior discounts.
I did not ask for a manager but the manger came to me and asked did we have aarp cards? I told him no, but we have our id's and he refused unless we had aarp cards. I think they should have taken our id's and gave us the discount.
Oceanaire is a great restaurant! We love the atmosphere and enjoy the ambiance. We definitely
enjoyed our "restaurant week" experience and the food was excellent. I had their renowned Maryland Crab Cakes! The Best in Town!!! Our deserts were the great too. We will definitely recommend Oceanaire to our friends and relatives and we look forward to our next visit.
I would have given all 5 except for the surly gentleman at the front who either was in a bad mood or overwhelmed by the lunch sitting. I asked a simple question was cut off and given and impertinent stock reply. Everything else, especially our server (Keenya), was simply delicious and awesome.
The food was good but the service was atrocious, maybe because it was restaurant week. The host was extremely rude. He snapped at us to "wait a minute, I'll be right with you" as soon as we entered. We hadn't even approached the host stand yet! The food was slow to be delivered and I made the mistake of ordering the dressing for my salad "on the side". My dining companions were halfway through their meal before I got my dressing and this was after we had to flag down another waiter (our waitress was too busy attending to another table to bother with us!). Even the manager studiously avoided looking at us when we were trying to get the situation resolved. The food was good, but for the prices they charge they should exhibit better customer service.
Wait staff service was impeccable, including wine service. Our waiter was extremely knowledgeable about Oceanaire's food sources (such as locally-sources ingredients and seasonal offerings) and how each dish was prepared. His recommendations, including parings, were spot-on! We were a party of 9: every dish of every course was well-prepared, well-presented, and thoroughly enjoyed. Also, the dishes were delivered to the table simultaneously, so no one had to wait!
We have been here several times so that was good since we know they are generally better than it was this time. There was a large group that came in after us and our waiter basically forgot about us even when we could get his attention. Food was great except the key lime pie was more of a cheesecake then last time we were there. Also $14 for sangria is a but much even for DC.
When making my reservations months in advance, I was told that large parties would have to be seated in a separtate dinning area. Not the case! There were two large parties (15 +) seated around my party of 14, the noise level was absolutely ridiculous and the service was slow because of multiple large parties in one area.
The food portions are SMALL but well presented. The waitor was ALWAYS in a rush and difficult to get a hold of when something was needed.
My husband and I were disappointed with our visit to Oceanaire. It was our anniversary, and we had hoped for a better experience! Our waiter was not at all attentive, and when he did appear at our table, he talked incessantly. The food was good, however, I ordered the Dover sole, which I have had numerous times at other exclusive restaurants. At Oceanaire, the price was ridiculously high, especially for the amount of fish that the waiter removed in the deboning process: essentially, the entire middle of the fish was removed because it was "raw": unheard of!
I think service was just off that night. Our server was friendly but repeatedly forgot to bring the wine that was included in my wine flight. Also our check was wrong. We were double charged for a steak that we had to send back. I also felt like there was a miscommunication on what we ordered and it was deliberate. We ordered the king crab legs and I thought we were coming off of the appetizer menu. Instead he recommended one off of the entre menu which was twice the price. While it was delicious it was an unexpected charge. When we receive the check he said “was there a miscommunication?” My steak was the wrong temperature. When we sent it back no one offered to give us fresh sides so that our meal would be the same temperature when it was finally ready. Also the table behind us was very loud. I’ve been here before and enjoyed the experience.
