Oceanaire Seafood Room - Boston Ratings and Reviews
Really wanted to like this restaurant. We chose it because it was a special occasion, we wanted seafood and it had good Yelp reviews. I had written ahead on Open Table to request a great table for our occasion. The restaurant was fairly empty on a Sunday night, yet we were seated, (seemingly without thought - nothing special about the table) toward the back by a large group who had a member or two that were swearing and obviously drunk. We complained and were immediately reseated. The wait staff were efficient but cool, not engaging. The food was uninspired and expensive Boston. We would have had a better meal at a fairer price at Legal's. My scallops and risotto were heavy and a bit oily, my husband's filet was dry and tasteless. The only reason we didn't speak up at the time is because it was our daughter's birthday and she had chosen the restaurant. Just before paying, the manager arrived to apologize about the group we were initially seated by and to let us know he had comp'd our desserts which we appreciated but it would have been nice for an establishment like this, to have had the manager appear early on. I was not impressed with anything except the décor. I won't return and I wouldn't recommend.
We went to Oceanaire for dinner on New Years Eve following a Celtics game. It was freezing cols and we were dressed for basketball, but it made no difference to the service which we received. My husband had the Nantucket sea scallops which were recommended by our server. They were sweet, perfectly cooked, in a word - Fabulous! I had the stuffed sole which was also fabulous. We started with Maine lobster cakes - yum! It was a pricey dinner with wine and dessert, but perfect for a New Years Eve celebration.
-6 degrees outside and they did not have the heat on. We sat next to multiple heating and vents were not on. Filet Mignon, mashed potatoes and asparagus came out cold. New years eve dinner and the food comes out cold. Hans the waiter was outstanding. We had to leave due to the cold inside.
First time there was for New Years Eve date night. Had a wonderful meal and experience! Definitely see us coming back soon, even if just to sit at the bar for oysters! We had the Ahi tuna and crab cakes which were both amazing! Shared a side of asparagus, which was a little intimidating because it was larger stocks but it was perfectly cooked and delicious!! Perfect date night atmosphere
We met family here and we could all have saved an hour's or more drive time, but 2 of us have been here before and were so smitten with the experience that we made the trek. It was a great dining experience and well worth the extra driving. Service is impeccable but friendly and informal. The seafood is as good as we've had anywhere. The crab cakes are at least as good as any we've had elsewhere including in Baltimore and elsewhere. Everyone enjoyed their meals, everything was cooked as ordered and the attention to detail was remarkable. We'll be back!
We arrived on Christmas night and the restaurant was lively but by no means busy. The bartenders did not even make Eye contact or approach us for approximately 10 minutes and unfortunately it didn’t get better from there We placed an order for oysters and after about 20 minutes we found the waiter and he totally forgot to put the order in. When we asked for assistance from another staff member they gave us an excuse that “it’s Christmas night a lot of people order oysters they must be busy”. Wine took about 15 minutes to come to the table and at this point this was a very disappointing experience as many, including one of the guests in my party raves about Oceanaire. Basically it seemed like nobody really wanted to work this evening .... no one was at the hostess stand to get my checked coat. I stood there for a few minutes and 5 staff members were sitting at raw bar didn’t offer assistance and the valet handed the keys to us and said your car is out front as he walked behind the hostess stand to grab his personal belongings and walk out the door. It was never pulled up for us in fact it was across the street. I will say that my meal was good but the overall experience was so disappointing that it could not make up for the inadequate service. I would have to say based on this I couldn’t recommend this restaurant as we have been to so many others, some fine dining and some not that Have treated us far better than this restaurant.
Not that great. Kind of wish we went somewhere else for Christmas dinner. My entree was lukewarm and my husband just sat there picking 20 bones out of his brazino. So unappetizing and was not a good experience. Desssert was the highlight of the entire meal. Very disappointing. Wish I had my $300 back..
Wife and I dined at the Oceanaire Christmas Eve / pre Birthday. Ambience was great; however, in a wide open restaurant we were sat at the next table adjacent to another couple. We would have enjoyed a little privacy and not liked whispering. Food was good; nothing jumped out at us. Oysters were fresh. The Birthday dessert was interesting. Wife was sick the entire 24 hours after leaving the restaurant. Not sure what made the flaming cake, but it didn’t sit well.
Great seafood experience. Of course, surf & turf is great also, but seafood galore. Oyster is must to start the dining experience with. After that, dream spot for seafood lovers. Desert portion is a little on the big size, so prepare to share. Very friendly staff and great ambience. Was absolutely enjoyable dining experience that I wish to repeat when I visit Boston next time.
The raw bar was ok, but expensive. The mixed shellfish grill platter was a catastrophe. A tiny lobster tail, three shrimps and three clams fro 49 USD plus tax and service is already very much on the ludicrously expensive side. To top this up, the food was the saltiest I had ever had, maybe to improve beverage consumption. Management claimed, that the food wasn’t salted, but only “brushed off with a little butter”, which, at least in our case was obviously incorrect. On the positive side, they gave us a small rebate. To sum it up, we will give the restaurant a wide berth going forward.
Food was excellent. Service was a little slow but it was a busy Friday night so not a big problem. Beautiful large room with very high ceilings. Setting is spectacular but can get a bit noisy.. not so noisy as to interfere with ambience. Will definitely return
I had a party of 10 and everyone enjoyed the food and the ambience, but we just happened to be there on a night when there was a big cocktail party going on so it started out rather noisy but got quieter as the evening wore on. I have always thought highly of Oceanaire and would recommend it always.
What a spectacular evening! It was our first time there, and we will definitely be back. The simple preparation of the swordfish was the best I’ve ever had. The lobster bisque was wonderful, as were the sides. And I have to mention that the service was wonderful as well. Attentive, but not intrusive.
Nice seafood, fresh and well prepared. Scallops were cooked perfectly for two of our party and the mixed grilled shellfish that I had was also exceptional with just enough of the smoky grill overtones to compliment rather than overpower the lobster, shrimp and scallops. The space between tables in quite a large restaurant provided privacy and meant noise levels were conducive to conversation. Would definitely go back when in Boston next.
