The wait staff are very knowledgeable and offer their opinions when asked. The ambiance is so grand in this historic building but still feels intimate. Calamari was traditional with a flair that set it apart. Trout with pares an crust very tasty for a mild fish. Key Lime pie is best in the city- creamy and tart.

I ordered the jumbo stuffed shrimp with crab but me and my date only had baby shrimp stuffed in our jumbo shrimp which was disappointing. I was looking forward to the crab, when I asked my waiter he said there was crab but I had 3 and there was only baby salad shrimps in all 3 jumbo shrimps. The atmosphere was very nice. The calamari was good as well as the key lim pie. I was very disappointed that my entree dish was disappointing.

I went to theoceania during Boston dinner week, and it is so good! Premier food for a reasonable price. My Antipasti salad and entree, salmon, are awesome! The dessert is OK. 4.5/5

I was very disappointed with my experience at Oceanaire. The night started off with not being seated until 15 minutes after our reservation time. We were then sat in a secluded back corner right next to the kitchen. Wait staff walked back and forth constantly all night. While they were walking they carried out bread to many tables. I requested bread and was told it was on the way. By the time we finished our meal I asked the waiter about the bread and he acknowledged I had asked for it and he forgot.

To his credit he was very apologetic and gave us 2 cappuccinos on the house. He was kind, but still.

The food was ok, but certainly nothing that wowed me. And any restaurant that is this expensive should certainly wow me every time with their food. So overall I was very disappointed.

Went for restaurant week, we were a party of 4, on a Friday night. As I am sure the staff don't love restaurant week because they could lose tip $, they should still be upbeat and friendly. Our waiter didn't even introduce himself, just came over and asked for drinks. Apparently there were no specials since we didn't tell us about any because we were not set on restaurant week. My friend asked to wrap up her food and it never came. We had to ask him where her leftovers were (it was half her meal!) Just wish the service was better!

Wanted to take my girl out to someplace special for her birthday and as she loves King Crab I was looking for a place that would offer the best in the area. After researching all the local seafood establishments, I read that this restaurant brought the Crab in from Alaska. Further, the vendor was featured in the Discovery Series Deadliest catch, the Hillstrand boat Time Bandit and claimed to be catching the very best King Crab you could buy. Only the best as they say!
We went for dinner and even though we were late due to the poor weather and road conditions, our table was held and we were warmly welcomed upon our arrival.
We were offered a radial booth similar to those seen in the 1940's where the booth is semi circular with a high back for privacy. Our wait staff was lead by Ivan and they were outstanding tending to any request without being obtrusive. They offered Hot Sourdough bread right out of the oven and Oysters Rockefeller that was expertly prepared and piping hot. A perfect start.
The Crab truly was the best she had ever eaten and my choice, Blackened Swordfish loin was cooked perfectly and superb. We chose baked asparagus and spinach sautéed with roasted garlic cloves and lemon, both too were perfection. We were quite happy but very full.
When asked if we wished to have desert, we declined because we didn't think we could fit it in but Ivan and the staff pooled together and purchased a Baked Alaska for my girl saying that they wanted to offer something on the house as a gift for her birthday, a really nice gesture and revealing of how much the wait staff really wishes to make the customer happy.
To close, this restaurant is exactly what a great food establishment should be, Great Ambiance, even greater beverage offerings and the Best Food prepared by top chefs with the finest meats, fish and ingredients available. We will be returning, and often!
If you want one of Boston's best, this is it!

Went to Oceanaire on a Thursday night. Luca, the manager, was so accommodating. He took us for a tour of the place. It used to be bank. We went into the old vaults and even met the head chef in the kitchen. The place is elegantly stunning. Marble everywhere. The server, Polly, was outstanding and the food was incredible.

We were celebrating a birthday and gave the restaurant a heads-up a few days ahead, and they went out of their way to make the dining experience memorable. The food was excellent and the waitstaff did a wonderful job...highly recommend this restaurant!!!

I wanted a baked potato and they do not have them. The waiter seemed to have disappeared for a while. We had to remind him that we wanted coffee. Since we were celebrating our wedding anniversary he did bring a dessert - a baked Alaska flambé that was very good.
We are members of the Landry group and have been here several times before. The ambiance is great but service could be a bit better given the cost. Overall the food is good.

My meal at Oceanairre was absolutely sublime. From start to finish, everything I ordered was perfect. The homemade sour dough bread and raspberry sangria set the tone early, followed by a cup of clam chowder and Mahi Mahi with carmlelized onions and blue cheese butter. To finish the night I had the most delicious caramel chocolate cake, it was so good I'm going to bring my friends back next week so they can taste it. Overall my meal at Oceanairre was absolutely perfect and I can't wait to go again!

Everything about our dining experience was exceptional. Oysters, shrimp, haddock and swordfish were all fantastic. Our waiter Gary was very knowledgeable and gave us plenty of latitude to enjoy ourselves without having to wait for service.
We will definitely be back during our next trip downtown.

My guy and I opted to treat ourselves for Valentine's Day this year and we had passed by the Oceannaire a few times and it looked like it had a unique atmosphere. It's more pricey than we would normally consider with entrees ranging from $35-60 but the food was absolutely delicious. We started with the tequila shrimp ceviche and he had the John Dory for dinner and I had a lemon trout. The service was impeccable and minus being at a table near the door (when is was negative degrees outside) the experience was truly unique!

For a special Valentine's Day meal, this experience fell far short. The waiter (like a ghost) and seating (by a drafty door in subzero temperatures) were very poor but the food lived up to expectations. The only complaint there was a heavy hand with salt.

My date and the manager -- who I spoke with a couple days later -- noted that this experience is not the norm. We will be returning again for sure and looking forward to a traditional, positive, and exceptional experience. I look forward to posting a 5 Star review in the near future.

We came for a Valentines Day evening and I would definitely return again with friends. You could make a meal of scrumptious appetizers or order a full meal. Either way you will leave and satisfied. I highly recommend The Oceanaire for a couples night or a group gathering.

Went there with 5 friends to treat one of our friends to a nice birthday dinner before we went to a concert. Made an open table for 6:30 on Friday before a holiday weekend. Got in no problem.
We started off with two of the most amazing Tuna tartare appetizers. It was fresh, and tasted delicious.
The entrees were as follows: black and blue cheese Mahi Mahi was to die for. In a red wine onion reduction with crumbled blue cheese Oooh my! The filet and shrimp, lobster mac & cheese, were purely deli can't as well. Crab cakes were so yummy and fresh. For dessert we received a baked Alaska in which was set on fire in front of us which was an art and a great presentation to see. Everything was truly prepared just right. Chef Canavan is their executive chef, and one of the most talented chefs I've known. His dishes he creates are exquisite. Kudos to the chef and too their staff. They truly know how to take care of customers from the service to the amazing cuisine this place gets an A++ in my book

We had a recent group dinner of adults celebrating a great achievement on the part of a couple of the diners. Oceanaire did everything possible to make the evening memorable; including seeing that we would fit better in another space and moving us smoothly in a very positive way that reflected concern for our experience.

The food was simply superb; and they do seafood like nobody else. The staff was alert-dapper-attentive and helpful throughout.

The head guy did try to sell us some additional stuff ( $$wines, sides); but I saw that and he didn't flinch when I defined what we wanted. He was a pro. One shouldn't be shy here telling the staff exactly what you want. They will make it so. Talent consistent throughout the restaurant.

The appetizers - especially but not only - crab cakes must be watched, because they could make more of a start of a meal for some that shouldn't be. And detract from the main event. That said, the oyster and clam appetizer selections are exceptional in quality and reasonable in price.


But in all, this IS THE Boston seafood experience. Having been in many places purporting to the same standard; I would say accept no substitute for Oceanaire. I have experienced he same at their Washington DC restaurant.

Expensive!, but worth every bit of it, if it is important enough and you know that going in.

My guests said in the days after; simply, that this would be an embedded memory forever, for any restaurant.

The panoramic picture of the diners (taken with the help of staff) is reverberating around the Internet.

The honorees were honored, right readily.

Boston is a city fit for seafood lovers. Oceanaire is perfect place to enjoy your seafood meal. The kitchen is delicious and selection of seafood is vast. It has a nice choice of the best oysters on the East coast. The premises are impressive, good for a special event or a celebration.

Oceanaire is located in an old bank. The restaurant is spacious, quiet, and the decor is beautiful. We dined here on a weekend night. Great ambiance. Excellent service. Superb food. Large portions. Prices quite reasonable. It was very enjoyable. We highly recommend.

Other than the appetizer, the food was well below the expected quality for the price. My tuna was tough and rubbery and the truffle fries were so salty that they were almost inedible. The Brussel sprouts were 90% bacon and cheese, so much as to be unrecognizable as a vegetable and completely unpalatable. I will not dine here again.

My family had THE BEST meal - and service - we have ever had. A busy Saturday night for the restaurant but the waitstaff treated us like we were their only table of the night. It was also apparent that they thoroughly enjoyed their jobs.
The presentation was exquisite; the meal top notch! Our waiter suggested a wine we'd never had and it was so delicious and perfect for our meals that we have been searching to buy it online.
The restaurant is beautiful; the noise level surprisingly low.
By far, the most enjoyable meal we've had in memory!
Thank you to the management and Oceanaire team for their excellent work. What a treat!

Our waiter was excellent. I was there on a date and he somehow always knew the right time to check on us without interrupting the conversation. The oysters were excellent!
