Oceanaire Seafood Room - Boston Ratings and Reviews
The raw bar was ok, but expensive. The mixed shellfish grill platter was a catastrophe. A tiny lobster tail, three shrimps and three clams fro 49 USD plus tax and service is already very much on the ludicrously expensive side. To top this up, the food was the saltiest I had ever had, maybe to improve beverage consumption. Management claimed, that the food wasn’t salted, but only “brushed off with a little butter”, which, at least in our case was obviously incorrect. On the positive side, they gave us a small rebate. To sum it up, we will give the restaurant a wide berth going forward.
Food was excellent. Service was a little slow but it was a busy Friday night so not a big problem. Beautiful large room with very high ceilings. Setting is spectacular but can get a bit noisy.. not so noisy as to interfere with ambience. Will definitely return
I had a party of 10 and everyone enjoyed the food and the ambience, but we just happened to be there on a night when there was a big cocktail party going on so it started out rather noisy but got quieter as the evening wore on. I have always thought highly of Oceanaire and would recommend it always.
What a spectacular evening! It was our first time there, and we will definitely be back. The simple preparation of the swordfish was the best I’ve ever had. The lobster bisque was wonderful, as were the sides. And I have to mention that the service was wonderful as well. Attentive, but not intrusive.
Nice seafood, fresh and well prepared. Scallops were cooked perfectly for two of our party and the mixed grilled shellfish that I had was also exceptional with just enough of the smoky grill overtones to compliment rather than overpower the lobster, shrimp and scallops. The space between tables in quite a large restaurant provided privacy and meant noise levels were conducive to conversation. Would definitely go back when in Boston next.
I've been here often for business meals. Glad they put back the good hot peppers on the vegetable tray they serve with the bread prior to the meal. I normally have char or salmon served "angry" style. This visit I tried the flounder with "lobster meat". They charge $14 for the lobster but served two very small claws and bits of other meat. For $14 I expected more, especially being in Boston.
The server was great and the side of honey roasted fall vegetables was excellent.
First time dining experience. Great atmosphere and superb waitstaff. Unfortunately major screw up in kitchen. My wife was served raw swordfish (supposed to be grilled) Management apologized but did not handle situation very well at all.
I wrote an email to the General Manager but received no acknowledgement or response.
Even though the prices are much higher than its main competitor, the food was excellent.
The main course should be accompanied with a smaller version of the sides(which are made to share) and still justify the price of the entree. The service of our attendant, Frwncisco, was outstanding and he wisely suggested what we should accompany with the meal. I will return with a larger appetite. Missed the escargots and some wine.
We decided to try the restaurant out for a Thanksgiving Day dinner. We were greeted by a pleasant and affable hostess and our waiter was knowledgeable and ready to assist with any questions. So judging from the staff we thought the day would be a great one. The menu prices were high and we expected the food to equal the prices. Our main entrees were fish; and I ordered the turkey day special of stuffed breast and all the fixings. I should have got the hint when the waiter suggested the turkey was not the chef’s best dish. He was correct, it came out warm and appeared processed; the gravy did nothing to improve the taste or tepid temperature either. The fish dishes were inconsistent and missing the enhancements, which all was additional cost on the price. The octopus appetizer was over cooked and dull and the overall experience was lacking. The wait staff apologized and explained because it was a slow day the kitchen staff was bored and subsequently preparation was uneven. Maybe next time the restaurant should close on the holiday and give everyone a break, especially the diners.
Went for family birthday celebration. Appreciated Happy Birthday on menus. Nice quiet location (albeit a little cold near the window). Service was very pleasant and engaging. Fancy drinks too sweet, but they make a great straight gin martini. Wine (Pinot Noir) excellent and reasonable. Food was superb. Calamari was light. Brussel sprouts tasty. Bay scallops on risotto truly superb. Haddock, stuffed lobster and yellow tail tuna all were excellent. Baked Alaska for dessert was attractive but otherwise just OK. Still, all in all, a very attractive place with excellent food. Price is steep, but value is good.
I am a loyal Oceanaire/Landry diner. Took my wife here for our anniversary. We both had swordfish which was outstanding. Ordered hash browns as a side dish and they were just awful. Burnt and dry. I not only sent them back, I asked that they be taken off the bill. In my opinion, they should have never served been served. They were that bad.
Bill came with hasbrowns on there and had to ask again. Manager took them off the bill. This put a damper on what was otherwise a very nice meal and evening. Perhaps I am getting to be too fussy in my old age, but the evening was not up to Oceanaire standards
We had a fantastic dinner at Oceanaire, located in an old bank in downtown Boston. The food was outstanding, from the Spicy Tuna Poke to the Seared Nantucket Bay Scallops, to the desserts. (Note: the desserts are huge, and easily feed a minimum of 2 people. We had the cheesecake and the Boston Cream pie, for 4 people and there was more than enough!) The service was outstanding as well. All in all - a great evening and we will be back when we return to Boston.
The clams with bacon appetizer is my favorite. The crab cake and clam chowder has a lighter feel which didn't suit my personal preference of strong seafood taste but not bad. The entries are pretty on point. My family got petit mignon & shrimp, shellfish mixed grill, and swordfish angry style.
Ate with my family during Head of the Charles weekend. Had the fried calamari - excellent drizzle sauce and insertion of sweet peppers, iceberg wedge - real, thick cut bacon makes it, lobster bisque - this was truly fantastic and a real, full-bodied standout with no fishy taste at all, and the shrimp scampi pasta - would have preferred the shrimp wood-grilled, but the garlic sauce was spectacular! We had so much food, unfortunately couldn't dive in on dessert. Great experience overall!
Food was excellent. Oysters, crab cakes and scallop dish were all great. Dessert was a chocolate cake meant for two to share but was so big four people could have shared it.
Service was pretty slow. Our server did a nice job, but we noticed he was also bussing his tables which sort of explains the slow service. We also found a fruit fly in our first drink. The manager came over to our table to apologize. Since we were getting tired of waiting for our server, we asked the manager to bring over our check. To our surprise, they had charged us for the drink with the fly. We pointed that out to the manager, who for a moment seemed to have no idea what we were talking about, and he removed it from the bill.
Overall, it was a nice night out with great food.
