Ocean Blue Restaurant & Oyster Bar
Lunch: Monday-Friday 11:30am-3:45pm
Dinner: Monday-Thursday 4:00pm-10:00pm
My wife had been to ocean blue a couple times for lunch with her boss, she thought it was good. She wanted to go there for our first wedding anniversary dinner. She said that the atmosphere was like business casual. So we dressed up, got there and people there were in Jean's and tshirts wearing ball caps. Hmm ok. So we had a reservation and were seated rite away. Their was a DJ there playing club music to loud, this is a fine dinning restuarant, soft slow music would have been welcomed, but not loud dance club music. We ordered our drinks and appetizer then when we got our drinks we ordered our meal. We ordered smoked wings as a appetizer, they came out looking not cooked, we were correct on that assumption. The wings were definitely not smoked, baked maybe but not smoked. These were the worst wings we've ever had. My wife ate 1 and half of another 1. I ate the rest, the meat was rubbery and not separating from the bone, worst ever. We then received our meals, the 4 scallops had were cooked perfectly as were the 2 she added to her meal. $51.00 for 6 scallops is crazy in my eyes. My meal came with potato pancakes and burnt Brussel sprouts, we also ordered mac and cheese, didn't finish it, had no cheese flavor at all. Definitely not worth the $100.00 bill we had.
We had raw oysters, which were wonderful (and our server was able to describe the differences between them, which was really impressive).I had a fish dish that came with a side of Brussels Sprouts which, to my disappointment, had bacon flavoring in them (they really don't need the bacon! They would be excellent without it). The risotto was a bit too salty, too. But the wine list was excellent, and the lobster roll was, too.
As always very good service and oysters !!!!
Always fantastic Went for my aunts birthday for brunch
Attentive staff that were fun to interact with. Perfect oysters. A brunch you can't make at home.
Great meal and service. I thought the music was not a great match for the restaurant. More like dance music than dinner music.
Food, drinks and service were great!! Almost too good because the food was there before we even got to finish our before dinner drink. Other than that I would highly recommend and try the Lobster Bisque!!! Wow!!
Fast , friendly service. Menu fairly limited. Overall very good experience
Two friends and I chose Ocean Blue for our monthly dinner. This wasn’t our first visit and the night lived up to our expectations. Jeremy was our server. He was excellent; very knowledgeable about the food and patient with our many questions.
We all ordered the lobster bisque to start. Outstanding. Two of us had the scallop entre. Four large scallops were each served on individual potato pancakes. Brussel sprouts accompanied the dish. Delicious. The third person had the skirt steak. All were excellent.
For dessert, I called ahead and let them know that one of us was celebrating a birthday. She got a slice of festive birthday cake which was accompanied by a white chocolate birthday greeting. We also ordered the key lime pie and cheesecake. All were excellent.
Two of us had cocktails. If you’re there when they offer their happy hour pricing, there is a nice selection of specialty cocktails, wines, beer and small plates.
Cost with tip was $70 each. A bit pricey, but worth it for a special treat.
Last year we went for my birthday and I was simply blown away by the restaurant. Everything from the variety of breads on the table to the ambience was amazing. I was excited to return this year....but was a little disappointed this time. The breads were just ok, nothing fabulous. The ambience was loud and crowded. Our waiter was pleasant but he was a little too much. Our food was "ok"....but again nothing super fabulous for the high price. Next year, I might possibly consider a new birthday restaurant.
Floor was dirty under multiple tables. So called hot appetizer was served at the same time as two bowls of bisque. Squash bisque was as thick as pudding and tasted disgusting. Fried calamari was lukewarm and soggy on bottom. Haddock with crab stuffing was a piece of fish with crab sprinkled on top. A ice scream scoop of mushy white rice was served on the side. The dinner looked like a tray of hospital food.
Upon leaving the restaurant, the elevator was occupied by kitchen staff and a huge dumpster of garbage at 6 PM on a Saturday night. Totally disgusting. This is their idea of fine dining??????
The meat in the french dip was very tough
The seafood and hamburgers ordered by my guests were excellent
My only complaint (and why the "food" category only got 4 out of 5 stars) was the dessert coffee and tea. Even though the cups were warm to the touch, the contents were lukewarm at best (and I like my coffee hot). Other than that, my wife and I always enjoy our time here. The staff is excellent, and the food (other than the coffee/tea) is out of this world.
All three meals served were delicious. Service is wonderful...waitress was friendly, helpful, and efficient! Manager stopped at table to assure satisfaction! Pricy, but worth it!
Shrimp cocktail is the best ever. Awesome staff. Beautiful restaurant. Great birthday cake. Bees suck.
My mother was treating my daughter, who is a freshman at nearby Hamilton, and me to lunch. Since we are from out of state, I had asked for recommendations for "the place you want your parents to take you" and Ocean Blue was one of the ones most mentioned.
It was an overall good, albeit a bit mixed, experience. Loved the fact that there was so much off street parking (very important for getting my elderly, not so mobile mother in and out of the restaurant) and the restaurant had a very cool vibe. We were there during the day but I would love to see it at night. My mother was THRILLED with the Blue Point oysters. Daughter and I started with the Bang Bang cauliflower which I will have every time I go there! Delicious! My daughter had the brunch burger which she enjoyed. My mother also had the hot lobster roll and it was delicious. We finished with one of the best creme brulee's I've had in ages.
Now on to the less than stellar portion of our experience. My tuna sliders were fine although I would probably not order again and I had a side of brussel sprouts which were WAAAYY too salty. I would guess, however, that this is not the norm and the flavor was good. I would order again, I would just make sure it was not as salty. The real bummer of the afternoon was the fact that, although the website said it was lunch, they only served the brunch menu. I asked the waitress about it and she said "it's the same menu as the lunch menu anyway." I had really been looking forward to the Sea Bass and I was pretty sure that had been on the Lunch menu but I was not going to argue with the waitress. The service was just that "serviceable." She was certainly an adequate server and was nice enough to make me a decaf cappuccino which was tasty, but I felt like an afterthought and had to ask for water a few times.
Overall the good definitely outweighed the bad and we will be trying Ocean Blue again although probably not for brunch.
Friday happy hour made for too much unexpected noise. Limited menu and pricy
Great evening. Loved the food and atmosphere is unique.
Food was great- highly recommend! Went for brunch- street tacos were delicious!
Came here for our anniversary, heard some good things about it! So we came and the food was very good! We absolutely love the Bang Bang Cauliflower! Our main meals were wonderful too. The dessert was excellent!! Can’t wait to go here again!!
Restaurant was clean & has a nice atmosphere- modern & sleek. Nice area to eat outside. Plenty of parking. Service was fast & friendly. Food presentation was pretty & clean. The food itself was tasty, but in my opinion, wasn’t special enough for the higher prices. I’d say things were priced $2-3 too high in general. I would definitely recommend this restaurant.
Our server was excellent! The food was very good. The warm butter cake dessert was delicious!!!
On-line reservation - easy to to
Service - excellent (Jeremy)
Food choices - excellent and tasty
Will go again! Will recommend to my friends.
We drove an hour from Syracuse to dine at Ocean Blue for the third time. It is unparalelled in this area for fresh seafood. The preparation and presentation were exceptional. Service was attentive without being overbearing. We had reservations but I wish I'd specified that we wanted to be seated outside. My only complaint was that the music was too loud --- it was turned down a little after we were there for a few minutes but still it was difficult to hear. Still, we will be back!!!
Just a fabulous dining experience. We are frequent visitor and bring guests. Our out of town guests are blown away with such a dining experience. Wait staff is outstanding. Samantha is excellent!
Ocean blue is a never disappoint! Great atmosphere, best views in the city, dining and bar crowd always top notch.
Very nice lunch in the outside area of the roof. Good food and a very friendly server 😊Thank you !!
Excellent service, ambience, spectacular food !! Very friendly
Very nice charred Spanish octopus. A taste adventure
Warm butter cake is amazing.
Food was excellent, although my scallops appetizer was not hot enough. Shrimp dish was very flavorful. Butter cake is delicious! Very pleasant atmosphere and friendly service. The outdoor terrace is fabulous!
We had a great brunch out on the deck with Mariah as our server. She was excellent. Richard, the host, is such an asset to your restaurant.
Well prepared food; excellent seafood apps! We loved the shrimp cocktail and Spanish octopus. A bit pricey. Cool rooftop dining ambience.
Always a great experience here! Servers are spot on, friendly, and knowledgeable!
Great spot for dates, special occasions, business gather.
Very good and good location
Food was very good, worth the price. Service was outstanding. Music was loud for intimate dining and conversation (probably good for happy hour / bar scene)
Great place. It's a gem in Utica NY. We will eat there again.
This was my first time at Ocean Blue and I had no idea it was a roof top restaurant. It was a perfect summer night for outdoor dining with a beautiful sunset. The food, cocktails and ambience were all perfect! Great date night!
I should start by saying I'm a huge 90's and 2000's hip hop and r&b fan. This place had me at hello as soon as I stepped on the elevator. I told my girlfriend whoever picks the music is my soulmate. I absolutely love this place and I would go a lot more if my favorite foods on the menu weren't the priciest. Well worth it though because I'm immediately in a state of nostalgia that lasts the entire time. This restaurant is my jam.
Excellent food & drinks, perfect weather for outdoor dining.
