Very creative food
Beautiful and cozy restaurant in the heart of Laguna Beach with great food, service, and ambience. We had brunch there and the food was excellent. I highly recommend this restaurant.
Ryan and Isaiah made our night...they all did, but those two were the BEST! Ask for he “antique soul”... it’s a spin off a Manhattan and it’s amazing...thank you Ryan! Isaiah was our waiter and extremely attentive and well knowledgeable! Great evening!
Excellent service....great food. We will be back soon
We weren't seated for 45 minutes after our reservation. The service was slow...seemed like there were lots of assistants but only a few waiters. The drinks and food took a a long time to come out as well. Ran into some friends there and they felt the same way as did the people sitting next to them. It's unfortunate because the restaurant's ambiance is wonderful.
Service was not good
Wait for food and drinks was long
Waiter was terrible
Chef was great
Amazing food and great atmosphere!
We have been here several times. They get it right every time! Thanks. Laguna Beach locals.
The best restaurant in Laguns Beach. Hands down. Get the salmon.
Amazing. Chef Strong was great! Service GREAT!
This is a wonderful place in every respect. A former 1930's bank building has been renovated into a bright and modern indoor/outdoor, casual and elegant restaurant preserving original murals and tiles. The chef, Craig Strong, whose credentials are impeccable, has created an original very palatable menu at reasonable prices. You can find Craig in the kitchen and also visiting diners with a friendly welcome. The restaurant's diners are clearly enjoying themselves, and there is no noise to be concerned with. The service is excellent. The restaurant is located literally a block away from the main street and the ocean. You cannot go wrong. We celebrated my husband's birthday, and it was a very fine evening. Thank you, Craig!
The menu selections were disappointing but the food was tasty. The patio ambiance was nice. Unfortunately the service was lacking. I’ll give it another try at some time in the future.
We've eaten here at least 10 times and every time it's amazing.
Craig Strong, the owner and chef is so personable--he comes around and talks to you about the nuances of the different dishes. A real personal touch. He was the former executive chef for Studio Restaurant at the Montage, which is generally regarded as one of the best restaurants in Orange County. It seems like everyone who works there is an experienced, career restaurant person; so the table service, the mixologist, even the reception are all very appropriate and professional.
The restaurant is in the old Laguna Federal Savings building, which has been restored lovingly. Nice, softly modern beach decor. The patio is especially nice. There's a beautiful fountain with Lagauna art tiles and some original murals. There's an open kitchen in the main dining room and exposed beam ceilings, with a small bar separated from the dining room.
We have sampled probably half the menu and here are are some of our favorites so far: The Waygu beef is something every meat eater should experience at least once. There's also a hamburger on the menu where they make and aoli from the Waygu steak and use it to cook the burger. Just ridiculous.
The beet salad is beautifully presented with edible flowers and has what looks like an egg yolk on top. It's actually yellow beets that have been pureed to the texture of a yolk and it tastes delightful. The short rib cigars are like best tasting tacquitos you've ever had. I think the salmon is one of the best I've had locally. The house made turkey sausage pizza is really addictive. I could eat one of those daily and never get tired of it.
All of the deserts are excellent. We tend to go for the chocolate torte or the blueberry crisp.
There is going to be a time in the not too distant future, when you'll have to book out a few weeks to get a table at Ocean and Main. So get in there soon.
We were a group of 7 having a pre-Pageant dinner on a Saturday evening. We arrived early for our reservation and they very graciously accommodated us as fast as possible. All of the servers and other staff were very friendly, helpful & efficient. Everyone was more than satisfied with their food. I had grilled salmon that was delicious and a very generous serving. Others in our party loved the ravioli with shrimp. We finished a very good bottle of wine, suggested by our server (Wildflower Sauvignon blanc from New Zealand) and we very happy to find we could order more by the glass and even by the half glass. It was a very enjoyable pre-Pageant dinner and an easy walk to The Pageant afterwards.
The best meal we’ve had so far on our trip! Chef Craig Strong and his team have created something very special! Will recommend to everyone I know.
Every dish was prepared perfectly and the professional waitstaff were all hospitable & accommodating. Ocean at Main’s wine list is well curated las well as the many cocktails and after dinner drinks offered.
I enjoyed a nice dinner here with friends recently, very pleasant atmosphere inside the dining room, and since it was a Monday night, the noise level was tolerable. They do feature a lovely patio, which would be a nice spot to dine when the weather is good. We shared a pizza to start as an appetizer, which had a tasty thin crust, although the chicken topping was a little too subtle in flavor. The main courses were excellent, one friend ordered the Ravioli w/ Lobster, in a light sauce, the Ravioli was cooked perfectly el dente with chunks of Lobster on top. I ordered the tender Beef Short Rib, which featured a green Curry sauce accompanied with "Forbidden Rice", a moist and flavorful wild rice. The other person in our group had the Tuna Tartinne, which is a delicious mildly spicy Tuna Tartar. I have had this dish for lunch in the past, and am glad to see they offer it on the dinner menu as well, its a great choice if someone wants a lighter entree choice.
Never isn’t terrific.
Give Michelle a fat raise for raising the service bar.
Food, service and atmosphere was great. We’ve been here several times and it’s always a great experience.
I think I was expecting the service to be a little more attentive...we waited a while before ordering dessert and also for our waters to be filled a couple times. Our oxtail risotto came out a little cool and lacked flavor. My boyfriend ordered the salmon entree and didn’t care for the sides it came with...also, the side of forbidden rice he ordered was dry. Other than that, my ravioli and our dessert was very good. Michelle was very nice as well!
We had a wonderful dinner at Ocean at Main. The staff was attentive and the food was devine! We plan to go back to this gem! The Chef was so thoughtful and came out to greet us. this is our new favorite restaurant!
The meals are wonderful and our server was outstanding!
We have always had 5 star experiences at Ocean but this last week the service was lacking. Our drinks took sooooo long to arrive. We ordered our second drink right after they delivered our first drink and we still didn’t get it for a while. We sat without drinks for 20 minutes. The food is always delicious but was also served very slowly this time and things didn’t come out together. Not sure what happened this time. Must have been short staffed behind the bar and in the kitchen. Our waiter was good tho.
The staff was having difficulty
Nice wine selection & scallops were amazing!
Once again we were treated to a spectacular meal with awesome service. The menu offers something for everyone and the chef is willing to make substitutions to please every palette. A meal at Ocean at Main is a culinary experience - a destination - an evening dining experience where you feel more like family than a customer.
New favorite restaurant. Wow what a find. Décor was beautiful, staff was very pleasant , but food stole the show! Amazing. Would highly recommend. Exquisite.
Great spot! The shrimp po boy and green chili quiche were amazing! A dj was there and it was awesome, not too noisy but certainly added to ambiance!
Although the food was good for Sunday brunch, it was not outstanding. The service was really poor and we were the first customers of the day.
We had to ask for syrup and butter for pancakes and French toast. By the time it came the food was cold and the butter couldn't melt or spread easily .
Overall it was disappointing.
Had a lovely first date this evening. The service was impeccable and the food was excellent. My only complaint is that it was difficult at times to talk without shouting because the noise level was rather high. Still, it was a great experience and I would definitely come back again.
Overall a good dinner, the potato shrimp soup in basal puree was excellent, the sea bass and salmon were cooked to perfection. Half our party had the lobster? ravioli and thought it was okay. We might have been in the mood for more delectable sides, we found them a little bland. I will return and would certainly recommend it to friends.
Food was amazing! Great cocktails too!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Always good!! The pizzas, salmon, beef short-rib are all great!
The food was just ok. The menu looked interesting, but when we got the food, it wasn’t the taste we had expected. I really wanted to like this place because the outside patio is beautiful, and beautiful bar area inside. I was surprised that the only Chardonnay on the menu was $24 a glass. Need to have a cheaper house Chardonnay.
Service, food & ambiance were all excellent! I would highly recommend. Our experience was delightful!
The pizza oven didn’t work which we weren’t told until we were ready to order. Then what we chose next, they had also run out of and hadn’t told us.
A real gem! Best steak !!! The cigar appetizer was unique and amazingly delicious!!!! Sea bass and the desserts were outstanding! Many thanks to Chef Craig Strong and our server Tyler!
Everything was perfect! Attentive, but I rushed service. Food was absolutely delicious!!!
I have to start this review by saying that I had dined at Ocean at Main, for dinner, a couple weeks prior to this Sunday lunch and had such an amazing experience (both service and food), that I scheduled a special birthday lunch here with a dear friend of mine.
We had a party of three; two adults and one child. We got there a bit early and while we got sat pretty quickly, it took about 20 minutes to have anyone notice that we were sitting there and we were right in the middle of the restaurant! I can’t tell you how many employees walked right by us and didn’t even offer water. We also had to ask for crayons for the child, which we normally don’t ever have to do at a nice restaurant.
All of this so far though, is rather minor and wouldn’t substantiate such a poor review. The server seemed less than interested in serving us and barely tended to our table. We had to flag him down each time we needed something.
The worst part was the food. We ordered the tuna tartine and beet salad and noticed the tuna’s color was “off”. Not thinking anything about it, and since it was my favorite dish from visiting a couple weeks earlier we ate it. Within 45 minutes of doing so, we were became extremely sick and were sick for the rest of the day. Obviously, the tuna was not fresh and was not prepared correctly.
Sadly, we will not be going back and hope that Ocean at Main checks the quality of the food before serving it to the public.
Everyone should go to this place the brunch was so amazing and the staff is awesome. Chef Strong is by far one of the nest chefs around and so personable and talks to every single table. GO to this restaurant is delicious!!!!!
