We went for restaurant week, and it was very impressive! Great selection for restaurant week (included steak!) but every course we touched was delicious, and the staff were very courteous. Highly recommend this restaurant.
Overpriced, small portions.
We had a reservation way in advance of Restaurant Week, but the deal was too good to pass up. Had a delicious cocktail called the Senators (after the Washington Senators) which was served “up” in beautiful cut glass. Food was very good, so go there even if it isn’t Restaurant Week. The ambience is formal, yet comfortable. Pictures of famous people adorn the high walls. The host offered us access to a reference book to assist in identifying any/all. Fun to guess while waiting for dinner.
My husband and I were really delighted with our dinner considering it’s the restaurabt week the menu was superb
Excellent service, good food, easy reservation, nice décor. Great experience.
Way too bright inside for elegant dinner. Decor was wonderful. The server was very good but one very awkward moment was when one of the staff took the unused butter knife from my guests setting after first course and placed on my side (since I had used mine) it just looked and was very strange. The food was excellent! Menu could use just a few more entree choices but that’s just my opinion
Cocktails were expensive but used choppy ice cubes that melted quickly.
Service was not very attentive
Todo bien aunque los hongos que tenia el ribeye estaban viejos.
Tambien la salsa del tiramisu estaba agria...
We were in Washington DC visiting our daughter. The food was amazing. The wine recommendation was fabulous and our server Rene was exceptional!!
We had a terrific lunch there. Fantastic salads and superb service!
Prices are rising above the competition
An excellent place for special moments, excellent food just like the service. they are always taking care of you. I love the restaurant.
Took the wife here for new years eve. Really want to like this place more and had high expectations based on prices and ambiance. The first wine (cheapest) choice was not drinkable so had to get a different bottle. Best food was the cornbead (excellent!). The Caesar salad was unexceptional. My french onion soup was very good. However, our main entrees (Swordfish & Halibut) were just so so - kinda bland and not that hot. We had better & cheaper seafood at a sports bar chain the night before.
We were visiting DC for the second time and had to go back!
This place has great food and the atmosphere is very cool. Tons of political figure pictures on the walls.
Just a great place to have a nice dinner with the family in a historical restaurant next to the White House.
Would highly recommend!
A wonderful anniversary dinner post theatre and historic gem. The staff made room for us much earlier than our reservation and the wait staff was attentive and informative. We were seated at a table that witnessed significant history. The food was incredible and delicious and we thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. We highly recommend this gem in our capital, perfect for a theatre /dinner date.
We went for my wife’s birthday dinner and the Occidental made it perfect. The ambiance was classy, the food was delicious, and the service was impeccable. Also, just 2 blocks from our show reservations in the Ronald Reagan building.
Longtime fan. It did not disappoint. Service and food were outstanding. A bit pricy, but pretty much worth it. I would recommend.
The service was by far the best part of our experience. It’s surprising what a difference just the right amount of attention makes. The food was well prepared, but there were not good vegetarian choices.
Customer service and food was excellent. Look forward to returning.
Too many children running around the second floor- no appropriate for a pleasant adult dining experience.
The food was fantastic and service was great. Would definitely go back. Only complaint and wasn’t really a complaint would be it was noisy. If your looking for a quiet and cozy place this restaurant would not be a good choice . The way structure is built it funnels the noise right down to the bottom level.
Would definitely recommend restaurant for food and service. Also great location especially if your seeing a show at the Warner theater .
Food was very good but unimaginative. Less expensive than I was expecting.
Wonderful for a Christmas season dinner with family after enjoying the decorations at the Willard. Excellent food....highly recommend the trout stuffed with crab.
Excellent dinner, and service!!
Staff could not have been nicer and the food was delicious. We really had a special evening here.
My wife ordered the salmon medium-well.
It came to her seared, virtually raw. It took 10 minutes to get a waiter to send it back (this is at 5:30pm, perhaps 10 tables occupied). It then took 20 minutes to get our waiter’s attention.
She returned quickly and said a manager would be right there. The manager showed up another 10 minutes later to apologize. The rest of us were at that point finished with dinner. The manager generously offered to remove it from the bill as a different waiter came with the plate 45 minutes later in total.
Not at all appropriate for a restaurant of such historic importance and pricing.
I guess it’s just another amateurish tourist trap.
Who operates it now? We’d like to avoid any other spots they may be running.
I was very disappointed in the experience. I chose the restaurant and I think all of us were unfortunately disappointed with the noise level, the poor service and the quality of the food. I wouldn't go there again.
We had a very wonderful time at your restaurant. The cocktails were perfection, the food was so good we devoured faster than we should have. Loved walking around to see the photos of all the political leaders and celebrities and American heroes on the walls. This place was quite a treat for us out of towners.
Still a stalwart. Salmon and asparagus was cooked perfectly. The tomato soup and the club looked seriously yummy. The ginger bread pudding looks like a big muffin and is delicious. If you're an oenophile, you probably already know that you need to ask for the reserve wine list to find the good stuff. I love the retro feel at the holidays with old style ratpack holiday music playing.
Awesome!!! Would go again!
I made a reservation several days in advance. Upon my arrival, the non friendly hostess was planning to seat me and my guest just inside the doorway in a row of very public tables. When I requested a booth (several were empty) she looked around and made me feel less than worthy for being in the restaurant and non-worthy of a booth. Our waiter was scarce. After signing the bill for $188, we provided our valet tickets to the waiter. However, when the waiter returned, he forgot the validated valet tickets. He promptly said, "The charge for valet would be added to my bill therefore, he would bring me an updated receipt." When he returned, he gave me someone else's bill for over $330. In general, the food was okay...a bit pricey for the quality. The water "man" was kind and amazing! Additionally, the gentleman I made my reservation with...Gregory was very welcoming and friendly. Overall, 3 Stars
Food was great, but expensive. Had a nice time while there.
Exceptional food and service. Worth every penny! Probably the best steak I've ever had!
This restaurant reported me to open table for not appearing for my reservation because I was less than 20 Min late for my reservation. I did show up for the reservation (which was so early in the afternoon "5:30" that there was only one other table occupied in the entire restaurant) yet they still reported me for being under 20 minutes late which I found very rude and turned me off to the experience as a whole. (though I do provide them with an honest assessment of the ratings anyway).
Unremarkable and overpriced entrees. One in our party is a huge steak lover & ordered the ribeye - he left 1/3 of it. Rockfish entree was just okay.
My very favorite spot in DC for a quiet and private business lunch. White table cloths; service is superb; a sense of tradition and history surrounds you. Just plain elegant, but not at all pretentious. Quality permeates all.
Very nice. GREAT seafood.
Outstanding Filet. Rivals the best steak houses.
Going to play at National Theatre and had dinner there first.
