Average food for lots of money. The lobster bisque was thin in taste. The crab cakes were lukewarm by the time they reached my table.
Very nice night. Waiter was just ok.
The service was very slow. When the food arrived most of it was cold - all of the fries ordered were cold and hard and we had to request hot truffle fries. The dessert had a strange aftertaste and we had to send it back.
Large well spaced tables - efficient services without being particularly friendly. All good excellent
The venue and meal were fabulous as expected. We had a lot of trouble getting the attention of our waiter from start to finish. Surprising, since it seemed a relatively slow night. Perhaps not staffed to cover the outside + inside?
The host was very friendly and helpful. The waiter was more interested in talking with co-workers, than he was in serving. The crab cake I started with was only luke warm when it was delivered. The I had to wait forever for my sandwich. I must have looked annoyed when the waiter passed my table, because he announced my sandwich was ready. But then it took a while for him to bring it to the table. Also, trying to get a coffee refill took forever. Would not go back to the Occidental.
We have been to the Occidental many times and this was a good experience with two exceptions. One, they seemed to rush us through dinner - entrees arriving too quickly to finish the salad. Two the lighting level was extraordinarily high which ruins the ambiance. I felt like I was dining at a gas station. I will return, but ask the server not to rush us (and dim the lights) as soon as we are seated.
We ha an absolutely good dinner in all respects. The food was fabulous.
Great ambiance at restaurant and bar for a 21st Birthday celebration.
We use to eat there many years ago. Took friends to reminisce. Sadly my meal was not up to par. The 16$ Caesar salad was dried up Romain and no croutons. 3 of the table ordered steak and thought it was great. The two of us who ordered fish found it over cooked. The lobster mashed potatoes were excellent. After spending 800.00$ for food and drinks, I was quite disappointed. Will not be going back as DC has much better restaurants than this.
Everything was absolutely perfect, and the lobster mashed potatoes were fabulous! Thank you Freddy for a perfect evening!
Great food great service great location
The outdoor ambiance is nice but the food wasn’t impressive to be honest. It looked presentable but had no taste. We wouldn’t come back here.
My reservations were for 6:30pm. My guest arrived a bit early and were seated with drinks. I arrived at 6:30 and sat down. 20 minutes had gone by and the server had not returned to the table to even offer me water. Asked the hostess where our server was and was told they will be right out. Another 10 minutes and nothing. My group and I went across the courtyard to Cafe du Parc for dinner and had wonderful service!
Food was okay. Service was subpar. We ordered at 2012 Graves and got a 2014 Graves. The manager didn’t seem to care. The waiter tried to make up the giving us free desert, which normally would have been fine but not for wine snobs! We most likely won’t be going back as it didn’t make an impression on us. It’s all your Congress.
Terrible food and super expensive.
This was a great dining experience. Food, service, ambiance all excellent. The only reason I knocked off a star is, we requested an outdoor table and was told there was a 20-minute wait. We told the hostess we'd be at the bar, she said we would get a text. 45 mins later, no text, I went to the hostess station. The staff was VERY apologetic and took us to a nice table outside. The rest of the experience was really excellent.
I have been having lunch at the Occidental for years, and have always enjoyed the food and attentive service. On my last visit, my entre sandwich was unexpectedly and excessively over-spiced. When the staff noticed it it even half eaten, they took it back, informed the chef, who pulled it from the menu. They comped me the sandwich. They handled it very, very well.
Ashley our server was excellent. Best seea scallops ever! Highly recommend this iconic restaurant.
Our party of three went to The Occidental for a celebration recently. We opted to sit outdoors because the evening weather was delightful! I don't know whether the server was assigned too many tables but he was not particularly attentive, the hot entrees and sides served were cold, and he forgot to bring our leftovers to us. Added to these unfortunate factors, the quality of the food and efficiency of the wait staff have steadily declined since the completion of the restaurant renovations. Sadly, we can no longer recommend The Occidental despite the fact that we have been dining loyalists for 20+ years.
Superb in all regards.
First a tour bus was loading just outside the outside eating area that took 30 min. The waiter was not very good nothing unless you ask for it. The prices were high for the food recived then we were overcharged about 20.00. Other than that it was fine really nice outside running near the white house.
I was not happy with the food. At the end of the day, the food speaks volumes. I will not return.
I don’t believe the waiter had the time for us, he seems to be in a hurry , Didn’t even take our drinks order, we had to ask him to come back to her three times because he was in a hurry
We brought our friend for her 95th birthday. The entire staff was so accommodating and helpful. They helped her walk with her cane to the table, greeted her with smiles and birthday greetings, and walked her next door to The Willard to have after lunch coffee. The food was wonderful and our server Ashley was excellent, she could not do enough for us to help make this a very special day. We started off with some corn bread served with basil butter and cherry compote, awesome. The lemon pasta was delish, little spicy for my friend, perfect for me. I had the salmon/ crab cake sandwich which was a welcome surprise. The birthday girl had the chicken salad and took half home for dinner. Of course they brought us a peanut tart for dessert and my friend ate the whole thing as she smiled. Thank you so much for making this such a special occasion for my dear friend.
Our server was drunk or high. Repeated things 4 or 5 times asking the same question over and over. She Spilled an entire glass of wine on our table and didn’t move us but covered it up with napkins.
After the bill was paid then asked us if we wanted desert or more cornbread...her speech was slow and deliberate.
When we told Frank the manager all he said was yes he thought she sounded different. Did not apologize for the bad experience..thought he might have comped us but didn’t offer..
It was all terrible. We went on september 8th sunday. Our waitress was as an African American girl.
Brought friends from out of town. They were impressed by ambiance, but food and service were average.
Price was not consistent with service or food.
It was her first time at The Occidental, she loved it
Nice place, pictures of famous Americans over the last 100 years; oysters were most excellent
Ate on the patio for dinner and had a wonderful experience. Charcuterie board is outstanding. Top notch service. Will return next time I'm in DC.
The food was aweful and not worth the price point. We ordered the steak and the fish. The steak was not tender at all and was only half eaten. The fish was bland also. We were definitely expecting much better food and we didn't get it.
Wonderful birthday dinner celebration at the Occidental. Food was superb and the wine list was great. The service was also wonderful. Would highly recommend
First we had cocktails at the Bar. Mike is a great bar tender. Then the service provider by our Waiter, Rene, was second to none. He was always there to fill our water and even found a lovely fillet for me that was not on the menu that night. The grilled asparagus and mushrooms were amazing. I would highly recommend the Occidental Grille and Seafood to everyone.
Excellent food and wonderful service ...it was a great taste with an extraordinary flavor fusions. Closing by making the ordinary Crème brûlée and extraordinary one. Good Wine making dinner an unforgettable event.
Quite possibly the worst meal i ever had
We went to The Occidental for a celebratory brunch. The restaurant was relatively empty and very slow for a Sunday. Our waiter was not attentive, visibly annoyed to be serving us I’m not sure if it was discriminatory practice or if he was having a bad day. The chicken was over cooked and tough on the Chicken and Waffles. He didn’t bring one of our ordered items, and didn’t remove any plates from the table to help make room for a Moreno pleasant dining experience. We will not be returning but wish the best for those that will.
Summer BLT is good choice! Fresh ingredients and big enough. Definitely customers are mostly tourist on weekend. Take selfies with president portraits. So worth to try this restaurant.
They said they were participating in lunch for restaurant week and they weren’t on the weekends. Not good. But we stayed anyway the burgers were good.
