In the south of France, more precisely in Provence, a cabanon represents an authentic cuisine, usually located in a house's garden, where all the mothers and grandmothers used to cook regional specialties for the entire family and anybody lucky enough to be around at the right place at the right time.
The door was always open. Since we had the chance to witness it in our childhood, we wanted to recreate this environment with the same welcoming spirit. So we decided to name our place "OCabanon".
“Cave à Manger”, literally means “Cellar to Eat”. In fact, the idea is to bring a nice pairing between wine and food in a cosy place.
We want our “Cave à Manger” to be a friendly destination, where anybody can discover love stories between wine and food, share and gossip around a good bottle.

OCabanon Ratings and Reviews
Food was good and service was attentive. However, we had 2 dishes with mashed potato's and we had to return them twice before we got warm mashed potato's. We also had order a dish which was out and had to pick a new one. The bill included the dish that was out , so they tried to charge us one extra dish. Not impressed by how this was handled.
Stopped in for dinner before going to a concert at the Garden - which is just a short walk away. We arrived early and ordered drinks while looking at the menu. Our waiter took our food order and we waited for our drinks. This is my complaint - our appetizers arrived and we were still waiting for our drinks! Our waiter apologized and went to the bar to move them along. That being said our meals were terrific and our servers paid special attention the rest of the evening. I would recommend -but would pay more attention to keep the servers on point.
Horrible experience. Service is ridiculous. It took forever to bring appetizer and another 30 min to bring food. They forget one plate and brought it when everyone was finished. Wine was served warm and wine glasses are cheapest you can get. Overall was more than a disaster. Please avoid this one.
Booked this restaurant, in part, for its proximity to MSG, as we had tickets for an event. We got seated quickly enough, 2 hours prior to start of event. Drinks and appetizers came out within a reasonable time, though a request for French Martinis yielded drinks consisting of straight vodka. After having to explain the ingredients in a French Martini (in a French restaurant!), the correct drinks came out. The wine selection was good, as were the appetizers. One member of our party claimed that she had the best French Onion Soup ever. Thus ends the good part of the story.
With about an hour into the meal, post appetizers and just prior to the second bottle of wine, we thought we were sitting pretty with plenty of time to get to the show. WRONG! Fifteen minutes - no main course. Thirty minutes - no main course. Forty five minutes - still no main course and no explanation. At that point, we decided that we had to leave in order to get through the new security measures at MSG - complete with metal detectors, bag inspections and lines that bottle neck into the street. We were presented with a check that included the main course items. This was quickly corrected, but with two bottles of wine, two cocktails and appetizers, the bill still amounted to $200, and no main course. We found ourselves eating pretzels at the the concert venue. We certainly hadn't bargained for this. What's worse, when one of our party addressed the matter with the owner, he seemed grossly unconcerned, despite his claim that he would make things right if we called him. Really? Should this EVER happen in the first place? It's a shame because the food we did have was good. In addition, the restaurant got very crowded on a Saturday evening, so they don't seem to have too many concerns about business, but if enough diners have this type of experience, I suspect that concerns will (and should) increase. Beware of booking if you have time constraints!
Visited before a concert, wanted to eat light and have a few drinks. Got there early and played it safe. Shared the mussels and ceviche to start and the shared the Filet as the main course. Food was excellent and the service was very attentive. Towards the end, when the crowd started shuffling in, we waited longer for drinks and service and was hard to call for check. Still highly recommend - great food - but make sure you have some time to spend!
Immediately was impressed once we walked in- what a great atmosphere! The staff was a little slow but there was a large party upstairs and fairly busy downstairs as well, so it was understandable. Food came out quickly, and in much larger portions than I was expecting (but no lack of quality!). I would definitely come back and recommend.
I really like this restaurant. My friend and I happened upon O Cabanon when looking for a convenient place to meet near Penn. Since then, I come here whenever I am meeting a friend for a drink , happy hour cocktails, dinner. Food is great and the ambiance is really nice. It has become a go to.
The 4 of us arrived at 7pm on a weekday night. The front was crowded but the back room was quiet. It could have gotten much noisier when a party of about 12 arrived, but it didn't! So we were able to enjoy the wine/beer and food: mussels provencale, hamburger, pasta. The staff was very accommodating and friendly. Two of us have lived in the area for several years, but never noticed the restaurant due to the construction shed overhead until we went recently with some friends.
