The door was always open. Since we had the chance to witness it in our childhood, we wanted to recreate this environment with the same welcoming spirit. So we decided to name our place "OCabanon".
“Cave à Manger”, literally means “Cellar to Eat”. In fact, the idea is to bring a nice pairing between wine and food in a cosy place.
We want our “Cave à Manger” to be a friendly destination, where anybody can discover love stories between wine and food, share and gossip around a good bottle.

In the south of France, a cabanon represents an original kitchen, where all the mothers and grandmothers would cook regional specialties for the entire family & anybody lucky enough to be around at the right place at the right time. We want to bring you that full experience (minus the grandmother).View Private Dining Details
Great food, Service and wine!
This a terrific restaurant with a great boutique stocked with food and items from France. Don't be put off by the block which always seems to be under construction.
I had the salmon burger which was so-so, tasted fishy. My guest had the salad nicoise which looked delicious.
Prices are fair. Wine list is terrific.
Incredible food great service. Very quite easy to talk. The Salmon was amazing!
Friendly, professional staff, nice room with eclectic decor and layout, great drinks and delicious food with generous portions.
This kind-of-hidden bistro is very close to Madison Square Garden. Excellent provincial French. We had escargot and mussels and they were amazing! Very generous portions for a French place. Will definitely return!
Emphasis was on the food, as I prefer. Authentic French without heavy sauces, if you wish. Excellent proximity to Penn Station.
This restaurant was a find. The neighborhood has mostly bars, and we needed a nice place to have lunch, and Ocabanon was perfect. The food was very good and the service excellent. It was a surprising find.
Love the Octopus Salad and the Burger! So damm good
It was a really delicious!
We visited OC restaurant just before concert in MSG. And we like it.
I'm very grateful for everything, they were are very kind
Merci a l'équipe qui est génial, très bon travail.
The service was anazing considering the fact that there was only one person working tables, phone and register!
Lovely, cozy little place tucked away on Henry Street. There is seating along the walls and on stools around a “lunch counter” in the center. The lighting is soothingly dim and the service is attentive. Our brunch was delicious, made with loving attention to detail. Sometimes Eggs Benedict are served on a big soft, terrible english muffin. Here the english muffin was petite and toasted, just right for performing its function of soaking up the yolk from the perfectly poached eggs. The dishes were accompanied by mixed greens with a light, refreshing dressing. The eggs Benedict came in many incarnations - wish we could have tried them all, but a special shout out to the Eggs Norwegian which had a smoked salmon that can only described as divine. We can’t wait to go back for lunch or dinner to taste the moules frites!
Waiter was rude
We ate here before a show at MSG. The food was awesome, we had tapas, octopus, and steak tartare. All accompanied by a very nice 2015 Bordeaux. It was perhaps the hottest day of the year and the AC struggled to keep everyone cool, but the quality of the food and service more than made up for a little discomfort. I would highly recommend this restaurant and we hope to visit again soon.
My daughter and I have been there before and we have had a good experience. We went again on Monday after France won the world cup and they must have been short-handed. We waited over an hour for our entrees and I had to actually leave and my daughter and son finished their meal. I had really liked the place but not sure I would go back because it was too slow.
Bastille Day celebrants. Although, we did not find the Provencal special meal appetizing, there was quite a bit on the menu that was attractive. The bottle of rose wine from Provence was an ideal choice. The atmosphere and dinner were super. Our waitress, Maegan, was sublime. Oh, and sit in the back room. Unisex restrooms are very clean and large. Cheers.
This is advertised as a more upscale restaurant, when it is basically a bar. I was really disappointed. The food wasn't bad, but the place reeked of alcohol and the service wasn't good.
Wonderful service, food, and atmosphere every time. The most recent visit was to watch France v. Belgium in the World Cup semifinals. Even with hundreds of people packed into the bar and seating areas, the service remained top notch. Mains for each person came out at the same time, servers were always visible and responsive, and no one ever went without a drink, even with only the regular contingent of staff. Reservations and seating were streamlined and clearly well planned out for that amount of people. Very impressive service and food on an absolutely crazy day. Allez les bleus!
Food, Wines were very good. Issue we had with Filet Mignon orders being very overcooked (we ordered medium rare / medium, they were servered well and overdone respectively. When we brought this to the waiters attention they offered up replacements, which were then served up rare...when we sent back a 3rd time we were served a steak that was anything but a filet mignon (a folded over flank steak, taste was awful)...to the restaurant's credit they did not charge us for the meals but this diminished an evening out with friends. No recommend.
Excellent service, delicious food and wine, but after about 6:00 on a Friday night the noise level was too much for us.
The food was delicious, and the restaurant was quiet in the early evening, which was great for being able to hear what the others in my party were saying. My guests were from Mexico and Colombia and were pleasantly surprised to have bilingual service.
Authentic French bistro feel and menu. Particularly enjoyed the duck salad.
Great french bistro food in a quirky "restaurant desert" area of the city-west 29th street. Service was good. Food was tasty. Large portions. Had the bronzino with sauteed vegetables. Prices were average for this type of fare. Good wine list. Ambiance/setting was ok. Liked that it was quiet so that I could hear my colleague easily. Waitstaff were all very polite and accommodating
Always a favorite. Bistro food, nice wine list, lovely people and service. And it's bigger than it appears from the street.
This restaurant was not on our radar but with a strong recommendation from a business associate, we chose it for our business dinner after a full day of meetings and because of the perfect location between the office and Penn Station. Drinks were interesting, and especially enjoyed the Bradwell. Service was perfect, and the appetizers were excellent for taste and sharing. Our entrees were equally great and the special was terrific. Wine list wasn't extensive but we found a nice French wine at a very reasonable cost which worked perfectly with our food. Excellent experience all around, and will definitely be back!
Nice restsurant , good food
Definitely a very good address
This was the second time we've eaten at OCabanon and again the food was great. We've enjoyed our meals here. I only wish that they would be more attentive with the service. They need to pay more attention to their diners. I had to flag down our waitress twice for drink refills and we were a table of 6 and had to wait almost 5 minutes for our last meal to come out after the first 5 were served. It's those small things that would really push them over the top.
Celebrated a birthday before a concert at MSG. All was very good
Very convenient to Penn Station. Friendly service, nice variety of French-is cuisine.
OCabanon is a great idea, a wine bar near Penn Station in the middle of not much else. The place looks French, the wine list is extensive and well-chosen, and the appetizers are appropriate: escargots, oysters, tuna tartare, pâté de campagne, fresh soup, etc. The problem is the entrees, which are only so-so, and those insufferable "nut potatoes" that accompany too many of the dishes and which are in fact just lukewarm potato puffs.
The food & service were both very good. Oddly, we were the only customers having there in the middle of a beautiful Sunday afternoon.
Excellent food and wine. Great service. Will return.
The food was off the charts. The staff was very attentive. The place is cute. I'll be back.
Very good bistro food, very near Madison Square Garden.
Fabulous! What a great place! The food was fantastic!
Excellent lunch spot for a business meeting. Good service, extensive wine list and well selected. Reasonable prices and not rushed or overcrowded. Menu has a french flair and food was done perfectly. Loved it.
One of our all time favorite restaurants!
I celebrated my birthday at OCabanon this year. We were around 30 persons and we had a buffet style get together in the upstairs mezzanine.
It was absolutely perfect: the food and wine were tasty as always, the server took great care of everyone and we had all the space needed.
I would totally recommend this place for large group events!
We got there early, before Billy Joel Concert at MSG.
Very relaxed , unhurried dinner. Food was great!
Special note .... we got the cheesboard as an appetizer. There was a LOT of delicious cheeses.
Excellent spot with pleasant ambience. Would definitely go again when we are in the area!
