The door was always open. Since we had the chance to witness it in our childhood, we wanted to recreate this environment with the same welcoming spirit. So we decided to name our place "OCabanon".
“Cave à Manger”, literally means “Cellar to Eat”. In fact, the idea is to bring a nice pairing between wine and food in a cosy place.
We want our “Cave à Manger” to be a friendly destination, where anybody can discover love stories between wine and food, share and gossip around a good bottle.

Wonderful space, amazing staff and service, great wine list with superb Bordeaux choices and mouth watering food!
Great food, wine and cocktails were excellent. Read some of the reviews here and got mixed feelings before we went. Glad we did, it was great!
Service wasn't anything special, but the place is nice and the food was good. Had a pate that was delicious. The soup (a carrot-coconut) got solid marks from one of the members of our party. Drinks were good but took a LONG time. It wasn't super-busy, but the bartender may have been a bit overwhelmed. I'd recommend the place if the location is convenient. I wouldn't go too far out of my way, though, with so many tremendous choices in Manhattan.
I came here for lunch with my friends. I had today’s special which includes salad, risotto with shrimp and juice. I got juice instead of wine so it was a bit cheaper than the regular price.
Their food was delicious and the waitress was super nice and friendly. I’ll definitely come back again.
This is my new go to place in the neighborhood if I want to talk quietly over lunch or have a fun dinner. The owners and the wait staff are welcoming and attentive. GO!
Awesome French restaurant with a real bistro vibe.
We tried 4 different dishes and each one was amazing. The portion size and presentation were all good. Each dish was flavorful and mouthwatering!
A great place for friends and conversation. Food and beverages were excellent and the portions are perfect sizes.
Great restaurant close to Madison Square Garden. We've been approx. 5 times and the food, service and atmosphere is great.
Wonderful food. Friendly service.
Great place and great food and it has a really cute little store attached to it with some great food products from France. Tables are really small and cramped together.
Food and ambiance was very good....Service was terrible and no fault to the waiter!!
The restaurant management is to blame for not hiring enough staff to wait on tables!!
This is a very real problem with this restaurant.... Too bad!!
This is not a fancy French restaurant but it was great for a nice casual French dinner prior to a show at MSG. Food was delicious and the staff was attentive. All four of us were delighted with our meal. The risotto was perfect as was the duck breast. Definitely on our list for a return.
Food was so very good, service wonderful. We always enjoy dinner at O’Cabanon
We enjoyed the ambiance, service and overall feel to this restaurant. Drinks and food were delicious, the only negative was that the french fries that accompanied our tasty hamburger were only so-so. The service was excellent! (I recommend that they repair the flickering that sometimes occurred with the large chandelier)
Second visit and just as delicious as the first time. Worth the splurge. Tip: Don't go when there's a big even at MSG (a NY Rangers game that night) because it gets very crowded.
Lovely place with good food and great service.
good french bistro. clean. good service. slightly expensive wine list per the decor. food very good and authentic. overall good and recommended.
A hidden gem. Perfect for leisurely lunch at modest priice for eccellent food choices and quality.
Service was excellent! Waitress friendly and attentive. As for the food - at least my plate as my guest seemed to enjoy his salade niçoise - I was a little bit disappointed. I had the salmon burger and some part of it was cold. I also did not find the presentation on the plate that appealing. Will I go back ? Yes as I believe everyone has an off day at times, even a restaurant chef! I will probably try another dish though !
Had dinner for 4 before an MSG event and we were very happy with this place. Service was good and the food was excellent! Carbonara was the best. All apps were great (sofshell crabs, beet salad, duo foi gras) . The burger was very tasty as well. The Special stuffed dover sole was OK but the great tasting sauce overpowered the fish and the gnocchi a little bit hard. Overall we would rate this a 4.9/5 and would come again. Price is very reasonable for NYC at this quality level, and an easy walk from MSG.
My friend and I visited OCabanon for a girls night and used a pulsd deal. We made the waiter aware and he shared with us a list of 4 bottles of wine that we could order using the deal. I asked if we could choose a bottle of the same price point and he immediately said no. We expressed our disappointment and asked if he could confirm we couldn’t be accommodated. He said no again then finally we asked to speak to a manager. The waiter said a manager wasn’t available and conceded to allowing us to enjoy the wine of our choice. We enjoyed the bottle service and a delicious meal of fricasee st. Jacques appetizer, and cassoulet and filet mignon entrees. Our plates were cleared with half our dinners still on the plates. My friend requested the server (not our waiter) wrap the dishes and our waiter came with dessert menus. As dessert ended, a delicious assortment of meringue and creme brûlée, we asked for our leftovers. The waiter was confused and we explained that we requested our food be wrapped. He wanted us to tell him the name of the person (no name tags) that took our food and he also said we should have expressed that we wanted it wrapped (we did and we had already told him that). The responsibility was on us, the customer, to be thorough and follow up according to the waiter. He confirmed the food wasn’t waiting anywhere for us and gave us (a second) creme brûlée in substitution for two halves of $30+ entrees. We left full and pleased with our meals, but utterly confused and disappointed in how hard we were expected to work to have, what I consider, a pretty typical dining experience. Other than requesting a $48 bottle of Prosecco instead of a $48 bottle of Rose, we had no demands beyond taking our remaining food home with us, but this seemed to be an unusual request.
A wonderful little Frenchy find near Madison Square Garden and Penn Station -- and the food was delicious!
Impeccable yet convivial service. Delicious food prepared to perfection. The apple tart desert is an absolute must. Great wine selection at very reasonable prices. Highly recommend.
I had checked out the menu online, and was really looking forward to a croque monsieur sandwich. Although it was a decent sandwich, it reminded me more of a grilled cheese. The dessert, a chocolate log, was excellent, as was the coffee. The server also let me and my friend sit for an extended period of time, which we greatly appreciated as we were catching up on 20 years. All in all, a positive experience.
Un super moment français au coeur de NY. Merci beaucoup !!!
In the wasteland of dining options around Penn Station...this is a very welcome addition
Went looking for a French Bistro. The tapas appetizer included ‘pigs in a blanket’, hot peppers, crackers, empanadas... Has the chef any idea of French cooking. Heavy. A grilled ham and cheese on white bread is not Croque Monsieur. The food was heavy and un-flavorful. We ordered mussels and requested they be served as separate courses. 1/2 the mussels didn’t open. Naturally, they were served at the same time. Superlatives are always good when describing food and restaurants. This place is the first one I’ve written review for in 20 years. It is my first review for the worst dining experience in my 45 years dining in NY. How this place got 4 1/2 stars must be from the bar crowd who are more interested in drinking than eating. Noisey, poor service, bad food.
Food was excellent. Good wine selection. Deserts- fabulous!!!
Absolutely delicious food, great service, lovely wine selection. Made a reservation for 4, the restaurant wasn't too busy when we arrived but were still escorted to our table immediately.
Would definitely return and recommend.
Unfortunately we did not have a good experience here. We chose this restaurant because of its proximity to MSG. We had a reservation for 8 people on a Saturday night and from the moment we went in we should have realized that this was a mistake. The bartender was very inexperienced and took way to long to prepare our drinks. I ordered a Grey Goose Martini straight up with olives and what I got was a glass of vermouth. Once we were shown our seats it took at least 20 minutes before someone to come and pour us some water. The service got progressively worse from that point forward. We bypassed any apps since we realized that we made a mistake and decided to go with main courses only. I order the filet mignon medium rare and it came out like a piece of leather. A buddy order the couscous with lamb shank and it was still frozen. None of the food was good, the drinks were terrible and the service just as bad.
When we complained the only thing they said to us was that they were sorry. We saw another large group of people actually send their food back and walked out. How this place gets any good reviews is amazing.
Horrible service. Had reservation for 7:45, arrived at 7:30. Seated around 7:45, and sat at table for 20 minutes before the hostess came back to us to serve as our waitress. Ordered 2 drinks, apps, and dinner. Took 30 min for the drinks to come, another 10 min for apps. At 9:00 we ordered other 2 more drinks and asked where our entrees were. She told us coming right out, and asked if we wanted to order dessert?!?... at this point other people were either walking out from not getting food and the table next to us had asked for dessert menus 20 min earlier and she never came back to get their order. At 9:25, my wife’s entree came out and they brought the wrong meal to me (steak instead of pasta). I had hoped the waiter just grabbed the wrong meal, but you can see the kitchen and it was clear they hadn’t prepared my meal. Finally found d the hostess/waitress again and told her to cancel the second drink orders since they hadn’t come and to remove my meal from the bill. It was easily the worst dining experience I personally have ever had and a horrible way to start the night.
Loved our food! Service was great also. The pork in mustard cream sauce was truly delicious. My husband’s skirt steak in Chimichurri sauce was awesome. Even the side dishes were tasty! The mojitos were refreshing. Will definitely be back.
A lovely place, good food and good wine selection. But the service was very slow.
Food was very good. Portions where a good size
Will go back soon with friends

« Service a la française »
Thank you very much for this nice new year eve diner
Not sure what was going on outside (renovation?) but not an inviting entrance, especially since 29th St in that area is not exactly eye candy. Regardless, our dishes were well prepared and the presentation was fine. Price gouging on the wine always annoys me, and they are guilty. Overall, the meal was tasty; I’d return if I was in the area.
I had requested a quiet, private table on opentable but was seated in the middle of the dining room while the back room was completely empty. We moved ourselves. Food came quickly. Onion soup was bland, snails we very good. Fish was dry, nicoise salad only average. But the ambiance in the back room surrounded by shelves full of wine was very nice.
