The door was always open. Since we had the chance to witness it in our childhood, we wanted to recreate this environment with the same welcoming spirit. So we decided to name our place "OCabanon".
“Cave à Manger”, literally means “Cellar to Eat”. In fact, the idea is to bring a nice pairing between wine and food in a cosy place.
We want our “Cave à Manger” to be a friendly destination, where anybody can discover love stories between wine and food, share and gossip around a good bottle.

Food was excellent. Good wine selection. Deserts- fabulous!!!
Absolutely delicious food, great service, lovely wine selection. Made a reservation for 4, the restaurant wasn't too busy when we arrived but were still escorted to our table immediately.
Would definitely return and recommend.
Unfortunately we did not have a good experience here. We chose this restaurant because of its proximity to MSG. We had a reservation for 8 people on a Saturday night and from the moment we went in we should have realized that this was a mistake. The bartender was very inexperienced and took way to long to prepare our drinks. I ordered a Grey Goose Martini straight up with olives and what I got was a glass of vermouth. Once we were shown our seats it took at least 20 minutes before someone to come and pour us some water. The service got progressively worse from that point forward. We bypassed any apps since we realized that we made a mistake and decided to go with main courses only. I order the filet mignon medium rare and it came out like a piece of leather. A buddy order the couscous with lamb shank and it was still frozen. None of the food was good, the drinks were terrible and the service just as bad.
When we complained the only thing they said to us was that they were sorry. We saw another large group of people actually send their food back and walked out. How this place gets any good reviews is amazing.
Horrible service. Had reservation for 7:45, arrived at 7:30. Seated around 7:45, and sat at table for 20 minutes before the hostess came back to us to serve as our waitress. Ordered 2 drinks, apps, and dinner. Took 30 min for the drinks to come, another 10 min for apps. At 9:00 we ordered other 2 more drinks and asked where our entrees were. She told us coming right out, and asked if we wanted to order dessert?!?... at this point other people were either walking out from not getting food and the table next to us had asked for dessert menus 20 min earlier and she never came back to get their order. At 9:25, my wife’s entree came out and they brought the wrong meal to me (steak instead of pasta). I had hoped the waiter just grabbed the wrong meal, but you can see the kitchen and it was clear they hadn’t prepared my meal. Finally found d the hostess/waitress again and told her to cancel the second drink orders since they hadn’t come and to remove my meal from the bill. It was easily the worst dining experience I personally have ever had and a horrible way to start the night.
Loved our food! Service was great also. The pork in mustard cream sauce was truly delicious. My husband’s skirt steak in Chimichurri sauce was awesome. Even the side dishes were tasty! The mojitos were refreshing. Will definitely be back.
A lovely place, good food and good wine selection. But the service was very slow.
Food was very good. Portions where a good size
Will go back soon with friends

« Service a la française »
Thank you very much for this nice new year eve diner
Not sure what was going on outside (renovation?) but not an inviting entrance, especially since 29th St in that area is not exactly eye candy. Regardless, our dishes were well prepared and the presentation was fine. Price gouging on the wine always annoys me, and they are guilty. Overall, the meal was tasty; I’d return if I was in the area.
I had requested a quiet, private table on opentable but was seated in the middle of the dining room while the back room was completely empty. We moved ourselves. Food came quickly. Onion soup was bland, snails we very good. Fish was dry, nicoise salad only average. But the ambiance in the back room surrounded by shelves full of wine was very nice.
The food was really good, but the service was dismal. It may have been because they were short staffed, but I'm not sure. There were 5 of us and none of us would go back again.
The food was so good. The service was good. It was casual and cozy. What more could you want.
Thanks for a good night out. Except for the long wait for the check, this was a very good experience. Well done
A VERY YUMMY ADDRESS IN NYC. MAKE SURE TO STOP BY IF YOU'RE IN TOWN, NO MATTR IT IS FOR A PECAIL OCCASION OF FOR HAVING A GREAT MOMENT WHILE DRINKING FRENCH WINE!
First night in NY on this visit. Picked this because it was in walking distance from our BnB but turned out to be worth a longer trip to get to. There was a party in the main room so we were seated in a quiet spot in the area that is a store of yummy looking condiments and eclectic goodies. Perhaps quieter because it was a Monday. Service was impeccable. I had what was billed as cous cous with a lamb shank but it was really a full size meal of lamb shank that fell off the bone. Every bite was delicious. My wife had the special seafood risotto, equally flavorful as mine. Both were large portions that we couldn't finish so we enjoyed our meals for lunch (2 days later and still delicious). We're usually too full for dessert (but I'm a chocolate lover; my wife not so) and don't like to stuff ourselves but we splurged and got a tasting item of 4 small sweets- tiramisu, chocolate mouse, some berry mousse and a citrus one. Perfect for us to top off a lovely meal. Forgot to mention that we had trouble finding this because the entrance to 245 is next door and no indication that this is next to the entrance to the building, not inside through the main door. But, it's right there. Now we'll know when we return on some future trip here (from Boston).
We had an office lunch and it was delicious. he wine was excellent and the staff was extremely friendly.
We plan to come back and try other french specialties on the menu. If you are in a hurry this is not the place for you. Loved to shop too.
As usual excellent food & service, Cederick is the perfect host who really cares about his restaurant, your experience, and the meal. A great mix of provincial French and eclectic.
My wife and I were in NYC to attend the Andrea Bocelli Concert at MSG, so OCabanon was perfect for our pre-concert dinner. Having been there several times in previous visits to NYC we were already familiar with the restaurant and staff and always enjoyed our visits. It is a short walk to MSG and was perfect for attending the concert. Because of the pre-concert crowd it was much more crowded than any previous visit, with tables set up in spaces we previously had never seen. Still service was more than adequate and responsive to our need to be out in time to walk to the concert. As always the food was delicious and excellently prepared and the price was very reasonable for Midtown Manhattan. We'll be back there again in March when we go to the Big East Tournament.
Food was delicious, service was great. Very friendly staff. And it had a cute gift shop.
Great food and service.
It was a lovely space, the wine selection was very nice and the food was delicious. We got there at peak dinner time, before an event at The Garden, so it was probably a bit louder than usual. Our service was very good, and overall, we would be happy to return.
After several pleasant visits to Ocobannon, today’s was a disappointment. Service slow and
food unexceptional. Didn’t seem that busy so hard to figure why.
Service was horrible. It took over 40 min for your dinner. I asked the waiter twice to check on our dinner. When the food arrive.. it was dissapointing.
excellent food, beautifully presented, comfortable atmosphere, close to Penn Station
Gréât for thé intimate group event that we had. I liked the food, and that seemed to be the consensus from everyone. We were rather disappointed at how long it took us to get our food, and the waiter wasn’t very attentive.
Super sympa comme toujours!
Wonderful classic French cuisine in a quirky setting, complete with adorable gift shop next door. Fantastic cassoulet, delicious wines (reasonably priced bottles, too), and friendly efficient service. Can't wait to go return.
Baked Clam starter was very cheese. Main courses must have been sitting for 20 minutes before serving. Stone cold, cold meals. Had to return. Sorry but the food sucked on this occasion.
Risotto and tuna tartar and onion soup were excellent. Tomato salad too oily. Linguine with crème and bacon sauce OK. We were in backroom by ourselves, so very quiet.
Service was definitely on the light side; otherwise a lovely meal.
Dîner de thanksgiving parfait. Très bon repas, copieux, avec des saveurs exquises. Nous y retournerons une prochaine fois. Personnel au top en plus. Une valeur sûre
What a great find around Penn Station / Madison Sq Garden which is not the best area for good food. This was delicious, comfortable, nice friendly service.
Great burger and crab cakes, good 🍷 wine excellent experience. Women are treated well!!!
Great find. Very much solid, French, great wine list. The only negatives are it's a little expensive, and the chairs are a bit less comfortable than I'd like. But really, really good food.
Repas décevant, fade et mauvaises charcuteries. Un prix fort pour un repas pas du tout goûteux.
Great varieties of wine. Our waiter had wonderful suggestions after hearing our preference trends having us taste two before deciding which bottle, even changing glasses in between tastings. Risotto was soooo good as was the tomato tart tatin.
We ate there a few months back and had a great meal, we loved it, its very cute looking and we had a good experience. Went back this past Saturday and had totally different experience - my friend had the grilled octopus it was so hard and chewy she could not even eat it. I had the escargots which were good, I had the whole grilled fish which was not as good as the last time I was there, it was somewhat dry, and she had a burger which was ok. The worst was the service, our waiter never came back to ask if all was ok, he was nowhere to be found and at the end of the meal we ordered coffee, after waiting fifteen minutes we asked the manager to cancel it, we told him what happened, and he could care less, did not even say he was sorry, he was completely indifferent, was terrible experience, I would never go there again and would not recommend it at all.
Surprising gem in a difficult area to find good restaurants!
Great place for parties of six or more to share multiple tapas offerings. Loved the baked Brie and fruit platter. We also shared a platter of mussels and a plate of balsamic roasted tomatoes. The flavors were not unique but the sharing sparked endless conversation. Great night.
