They had very few gluten free options. They really did not try care about making you happy and going the extra mile to see if they could make a dish GF. The wait time for service was long and the food was just ok, yet the cost was expensive.
Service was subpar. I had to ask for everything that should have been on the table.
Great service and great food!
Hostesses were a little rude and off-putting. Train them to just be polite, it’s not hard. First experience anyone has at a restaurant is with the hostess! It can bring down the wait staff and really good food which is a shame.
Best ramen and service!
Sushi was decent although we prefer less rice and more fish in our rolls. Happy hour deals to be had and outdoor space was nice.
Fabulous as always! We don’t eat the Ramen as it’s too salty for our liking, but the Sushi was lovely. Michaela was super! Thank you!
Horrible service. Takes 10 mins for you to get first approached when seated. Asked our server for three items throughout our dinner, none of which were brought. Food quality wasn’t great. The spicy tuna roll didn’t even look nor taste like a spicy tuna roll. I’ve gone to Obon since they first opened at the Quarter. I will certainly not be returning.
We love Obon Sushi and are frequent diners at the Grove Location (at minimum 2x a month)
We ate outside on the patio which has both heaters and misters. But the whole restaurant was actually open air this time of year because they had several garage style doors that were opened all the way and the evening weather was perfect. The ambience was so nice and the food was fantastic! We'll definitely be back!
Great food and service
Loved it so much! The other location at Kierland is a bit lower quality but this one has us hooked!!!!
First time this place disappointed me
Excellent food, service and friendly wait staff.
I made reservations for a table outside. Unfortunately when we arrived, there were no tables available on the patio. Not sure why a table wasn't reserved for us. Seems like it was more 1st come 1st serve as to where you will be seated. However, the wait staff was terrific and the food delicious. We will be back
Steam buns, sushi and wings were all amazing. Very delicious combination of flavors. Would 100% return.
Wow. Best ramen ever.
Liked the food. Menu selections were excellent. Nice setting. Big problem was the table size. The tables were designed more for a cocktail lounge than a restaurant. No room for the food we ordered. No space around us for personal items.
Too bad that the restaurant is so uncomfortable. My wife had a severe leg injury and seating us at a two-top was ludicrous. Especially since more than half of the inside tables were empty. Hostess was pretty clueless about handling diners with disabilities.
Quiet Saturday night (6:30 reservation). Excellent food with different and yet authentic flavors. Friendly servers wore masks, tables were well spaced, and I was able to select an outdoor table when I made the reservation using OpenTable — all much appreciated for health reasons. We did not find the service slow at all. Would be happy to come back again if we find ourselves in Scottsdale.
We loved it! Raman was delicious, the space was well designed, and everyone was super friendly. We'll be back for sure :)
For starters they changed what used to be a great HH menu. They used to have half off small plates. Now it is just a few items for 6 bucks. Spring rolls and gyoza. The service was incredibly slow. Despite the restaurant not being too crowded we waited a long time for our items. Had to ask multiple times for things such as a fork etc. the food really is good but it’s pricey. Not sure we will return soon.
Fish quality is good but the rolls and nigiri were constructed rather poorly and the rice was falling apart.
Very good food, and waitress gave good recommendations/explanations
Our server was great. We arrived right at 6pm and she still gave us the option to get some items ordered off the happy hour menu. Food was good and prices match quality of food.
The food and cocktails were good! The inside was nice and cute!
Unique flavors of sushi! Service was a little slow.
Food was good, service was fine but noise level almost ruined the experience.
I’ve had much better experiences at Obon. This one was just ok. For some reason it wasn’t very crowded tonight, which is weird. Last time I tried to go they wouldn’t let me in because of all of the reservations. Anyone could have walked in last night. The service wasn’t great. We waited a good 30 minutes before our drink order was taken.
Obon original ramen - spicy and it is a large portion. Very filling. Fried dumplings were good but not great. Probably better steamed. Avocado roll filling and okay
Tables were well distanced. Servers wearing masks and people at tables were eating so not masked. People leaving and coming in were generally masked.
Great experience! When check came we realized that they didn’t give us the happy hour prices, when we brought it to the waitresses attention she adjusted it right away!!
Food was delicious
Overall, 3-4 stars. Cali roll was really good bc it had the crab roll, not crab/mayo mix. OBON ramen was very spicy which I like. The chicken wings were REALLY good! Disappointed, though, at the meat to rice ratio for both the chicken teriyaki and the Korean twice-fried chicken; too much rice, so little chicken. The shrimp tempura was undercooked - the batter was soft beneath the thin crunchy exterior. Worth trying another time, but would not get these items that disappointed.
Food was great ,Service was great , only I wish they would have more comfy seating chairs, and thats why I gave them 4 stars.
Overall - would go back there for sure.
Enjoyed the happy hour with friends.
We sat outside with our little dog. The mosquitoes we unrelenting. Very uncomfortable.
One of the best happy hour in town.
Celebrated my anniversary with my boyfriend. We decided to try a couple of small plates in addition to our entrees.
First we had the spicy tuna and crispy rice with pepper sauce. The crispy rice was a bit on the thicker side, but the dish overall was quite tasty.
We also had some of the steamed buns. We ordered the pork belly and the shrimp, we meant to only order one of each but the server brought 2 of each, so we both had 1 of of each kind. Both of us preferred the pork belly. It was tender with good flavor. I even enjoyed the cucumber slices that were on the bun as well. The shrimp was actually breaded and fried but seemed like it was a little over cooked and rubbery.
The last small plate we tried was actually one of the shiro maki signature rolls. My boyfriend loves sushi despite not being a big fan of seafood (mostly he dislikes cooked fish). However he also does not like cucumber. I ordered this roll because it sounded interesting and did not list cucumber as an ingredient. However the roll we were given did have cucumber in it. The boyfriend was able to pick out the offending piece but it was annoying that he needed to do it.
For entrees, both of us ordered ramen. I ordered the OG ramen while my boyfriend had the Obon. We were both happy with our selections. The taste was interesting and rich. The only downside was that the noodles didn’t all separate so we had some clumps of gummy noodles through our ramen.
This was my first visit to Obon and I can definitely say that I’m going to return in the future.
Great food great drinks. Amazing patio, even during the hot summer months
Ramen. Soup too salty more like instant noodles soup
Wings. Chicken meat it’s hard and chewy Too sweet
Tina sushi. Tuna smell a bit weird I’m not sure they’re fresh
Was there for a late lunch. Only 3 other parties there. Service was slooooooooowwwwww. No table touch to see how good was. If we needed anything without staring at server. Food was great but if you’re slow keep in mind not to be complacent.
The california maki is soo good and the ramen.
