Obica Mozzarella Bar Pizza e Cucina Ratings and Reviews
We were there on Valentine's Day as a family of 4. This is a causal neighborhood place. The food and service is always very good. The prices are good. They have happy hour on a regular basis. We consider it a go to place during the week or for lunch or dinner. I wish they had a slightly more generous pour on their glass of wine (and i don't mean the happy hour wine.) Still, we enjoy the friendly nature of the owners and the true Italian cuisine.
They have happy hour from 5-7p Monday - Friday by the bar. House Wine & Beer for $6 and they have some bites for $5 as well. Came here for their Restaurant Week 2018 menu.
The 2 apps were stars of the night- Mozzarella Sampler and Tartare Di Manzo. Both were fresh and delicious! The Entrees on the otherhand were quite salty. We had the Merluzzo (black cod) & Taglierini Neri (squid ink pasta) Dessert was ok.
I think I would come back for HH and Mozzarella, but would probably go else where for dinner.
I have been here a few times now for dinner or just a quick drink and small bite at the bar and have never been disappointed. Everything I have had here...pasta, pizza, appetizers...is absolutely delicious. This is my favorite Italian restaurant in Manhattan.
This place is HUGE with fantastic cubby like seating for groups. Our group of friends ordered a couple of bottles of sparkling wine and an assortment of appetizers. Some of the apps weren't appropriate to be shared by 5 people (and the waiter should have noted that) and some of the apps where just OK. I was a bit surprised by what they considered an antipasto (for the price). The waiter was attentive without being on top of us. We never felt a pressure to finish up, which was nice. Definitely get a reservation -- place fills up quickly. My only issue was they wouldn't seat us until everyone arrived, and that was annoying. When I arrive for reservation, the place was empty. I would go back but instead I'd try entrees to see if the food improves.
We went for restaurant week and the food was absolutely incredible. I feel like most places their restaurant week menu is very minimal but OBICÀ was absolutely amazing. Every dish and drink we had was so good. I highly recommend this restaurant. Our waiter also provided excellent service and hand picked our drinks and desserts so good!!
My friend arrived early for our pre-theater dinner. Although the restaurant was empty - except for the crowded bar, the hostess would not seat her because of restaurant policy. When I arrived the hostess told me my friend was at the bar and I should find her and make sure she's closed her bill before we can be seated. My friend was not at the bar, she had left and came back since the bar was so crowded and she had nowhere to sit. I told the hostess this and she didn't apologize or care. We were taken to a table in front of the restrooms although there were more than 10 empty table available. We asked for a different table and the hostess tried to sit us right next to another table on the back wall, instead of leaving a space so we wouldn't have to be on top of each other - there were 10 tables on the empty banquet area.
We had been here before and liked the food and service and were looking forward to a nice dinner before our show. We were very disappointed and didn't order dessert or another glass of wine because of the experience. My friend didn't order a glass of wine while she waited for me because she had no place to sit. They lost money that evening on our meal and neither of us plan to return to this restaurant or send friends here.
Dined here for the first time with a couple of friends on Saturday. It was wonderful from start to finish. Had some prosciutto, burrata w/truffles, filet mignon, cacio de pepe pasta, squid ink pasta, croquettes, and salad. Everything was delicious and our server was delightful. I will be back.
Very disappointed by the level of service and lack of enthusiasm from staff.
Cutlery was not brought in with food. We had to remind staff many times about bringing spoon for soup.
Same for dessert and coffee. Finally a large spoon was brought for an espresso. The spoon didn't fit in the espresso cup!!! Had higher expectations from an Italian restaurant.
I had a lunch pre fixe (meatballs and then pizza). Meatballs were hard as a rock and dry, and the pizza I had taken to go (3 of the 4 slices) to find hair in it when going to eat later. I actually would like someone to contact me as I was very disappointed.
First impressions are important and for a restaurant, you only get one. I've been a patron of Obica for over a year and have always had wonderful dining experiences, and most importantly, the personnel always set the tone for the rest of the dining experience(s) by making me and my guests feel welcome as we entered and checked in. Sadly for our Christmas Day dinner, this didn't happen and it made us want to go elsewhere where our patronage would be more appreciated. The woman who worked the front wasn't very friendly and even though we were very early for our reservation, we noticed other guests getting seated right away, even though they, too, were early for their reservations and in one case a party of two were seated immediately, with us waiting. Finally my partner asked another gentleman if we could be seated and he asked if both people in our party were present, which was annoying because we had been there for over an hour at that point. This made us feel very unwelcome because it was apparent that the hostess wasn't even watching out for a table to seat us. Fortunately our server, Alisa, could not have been more amazing. In fact, all the servers were terrific, as usual. Our pizza came out cold, which was disappointing, but since we were so hungry, we just ate it and our server was so busy with a large table we just couldn't wait for another one. The rest of the meal was wonderful and Alisa checked on us periodically and made sure other servers tended to our needs as she was tied up with the large party. I hope this was a one off because we love this restaurant. I just hope they put their best people in the front because a warm welcome really makes a difference!
Great place! Friendly staff. Not expensive at all. Very spacious and comfortable seats. We loved the food, but the best was how friendly the staff was. A waitress saw trying to take a selfie and offered to take our picture, all with a great smile. Will certainly go back to Obica.
Christmas Eve dinner. The waitress was awful. Kept telling us how she was a college student so she can remember everything without writing it all down. Forgot to bring the wine with the meal- instead she brought the bottle when we were already done eating. Then we ordered dessert and she forgot to bring the coffee with the dessert. Every time we reminded her- she gave us an attitude. Will not be going back here.
If you can get by the nasty hostess, the food and table service are wonderful. Mozzarella sampler appetizer doesn’t disappoint, and the two pastas at our table (squid spaghetti and spinach lasagna) were tasty and large portions. I would split a pasta and get another small plate next time. I will go back again - but not in December when the staff is stretched with company holiday parties.
After an Obica experience in the Campo de Fiori in Rome, Italy, I was excited to see that Obica was now in Manhattan. I booked a reservation and regaled my friend with the wonders of the mozzarella. For starters, I ordered the Sampler. The mozzarella was no where close to the cheeses I had in Rome. The smoked mozzarella was way over-smoked, and remained on the plate. The Caprese portion of the sampler consisted of one cherry tomato, sliced in half, two bites of cheese, and a ragged leaf of basil. The pesto was the only really redeeming bite on the plate. Next, I ordered the prosciutto pizza. The only flavor came from the prosciutto. Olive oil and salt were necessary, then it was enjoyable. The crust was tender crisp and delicious. I would not go to the New York restaurant based on this experience ... but will go back when in Rome.
My husband and I were excited to try this restaurant, as the menu looked amazing. The food was indeed great but we had the worst service I have ever had in a NYC restaurant, and that is saying something. The highlight had to be after we finished dessert, our server took the plates away, remarked how we must have enjoyed it, and then didn't bring the check...for awhile. No big deal, we can flag him down. Except we couldn't. He was laughing with other servers at the otehr side of the restaurant, then he was wrapping silverware wtih his back to us. We legitimately waited 15 minutes before we realized he really just wasn't coming back. We flagged another (very friendly) server down who gave us our bill. Even though the food was good the service was horrific enough that I won't return (we're in NYC, good Italian restaurants are a dime a dozen).
