We went during restaurant week. Selections were good. Food was excellent. Server was knowledgeable and attentive. We will go back.
Fabulous meal on a quiet Monday night for Restaurant Week. We had crudo fish dish and short rib carpaccio for appetizers, beef tips and filet for mains, and shared warm brownie with smoked ice cream (seriously delicious) and peach concoction for dessert. All the dishes were wonderful and creative without being too far out, service and wine selections were terrific, beautiful restaurant and quiet...you can actually talk here. This restaurant deserves a following...we used to frequent but the chef turnover and inconsistent experience left us dismayed. They are back and deserve a night of dining pleasure. Highly recommended!
We had a pleasant evening at Oak on Saturday. We actually could have a conversation. The menu is varied with lots of good things from which to to choose. We both had the Halibut. The presentation was great. Disappointedly, the Halibut was overdone and dry...no juice.
I guess we could have sent it back...but just returning it changes the mood of the evening. I will give them another chance.
I recommend the Oak. You may not be a fussy as I about how to cook Halibut.
This visit was for drinks and appetizers. Our serve was great. He knew the menu and was able to make recommendations. He was friendly and attentive checking on us throughout our stay. We were going to have dinner but decided to try several appetizers instead. We had the charcuterie plate and the artichoke dip. The charcuterie plate had a nice variety of meats and cheeses. The standouts were the chorizo and the house made ricotta. It also came with almonds, olives and some delicious pickle slices. It was big enough to share and could substitute for a main course. The artichoke dip was tasty and not at all what I expected. It had grilled artichokes with house made rocotta and was very light and refreshing. Perfect for a hot summer day. Our cocktails were delicious and expertly crafted. We enjoy our evening and will be back to try some main courses.
We went here to celebrate my daughter's birthday. The service and food was impeccable. Oak made our celebration very special! Thank you 😊
All in all a very favorable experience. Ate at the bar, hardly any tables occupied on Monday night. Only concern was a long wait from time order placed to food delivered even though restaurant more or less empty.
We all had the filet. Well worth it. Tender, juicy, cooked to perfection. I don't recommend the steak sauce (almost an Asian flare to it with citrus and ginger?), but you do you. Brussel sprouts were delicious, and the corn dish was a really fun take on street corn.
Great place.. food was amazing. Wine guys know their stuff!!
Menu selection was limited. Food pricey for small portions. Wines overpriced.
Great service. Nice ambience.
The restaurant is beautiful, service outstanding and my entree was wonderful. However, everyone in my party felt the portion sizes were more comparable to small plates. That would have been fine if it weren’t for the price. If no t for that we would visit again.
Great experience, the food was amazing and the service was very good. The sommelier was very knowledge and suggested a white that paired very well with the pork brisket. Also, the filet was fantastic! One of the best steaks I’ve had in DFW. Cocktails were well balanced and delicious. For a side we ordered the asparagus (which was ok). The toffee pudding was tasty too. We had a great time and will definitely return!
What a very strange evening at Oak! We were there for a special occasion -- our anniversary. We arrived around 7:30 and there were people at the bar but no one else in the restaurant. And we left at around 9:00, and the entire evening we were the only people eating dinner. On a Friday night.
Maybe we had the wrong attitude, and maybe this was a missed opportunity. The drinks were good, and the appetizers very good. But when it became clear there was going to be no one else in the restaurant, we bailed out, ordering a cheap wine and two of the lesser entrees. Both entrees were also quite good. And our server, Oscar, was better than quite good. He was excellent.
We didn't want a noisy and crowded restaurant, where we were seated right on top of others and where we couldn't hear each other over the din. But this experience was too quiet. Alone in the restaurant, it became awkward. Staff were gradually let go for the evening, and it was as if we were on display or were making a social faux pas. Even if what you want is a quieter venue, you still want just a little electricity. Unfortunately, however good the food and however fine the waiter, this evening was special in a wrong and almost sad or tragic way.
The food was great and I liked the server but there were only 4-5 tables in the entire place and it took 2 plus hours to get our meal. I eat out 5 nights a week and this is not normal.
Oscar was outstanding!!! The food was amazing and the drinks were soooooo delish!!! Highly HIGHLY recommend!!!
Service at the bar was great really nice people. Once we moved to our table that experience changed. Service was slow, haphazard, different servers filling up water glasses with the wrong type, long wait for drinks. When we got our food both of our meals were lukewarm while the brussels sprouts were too hot to eat. It wasn’t super busy so I don’t understand the problem behind the service and cold food. Didn’t say anything since it was a special occasion and didn’t want to ruin the night but for the price I expected a far better experience. I eat out a lot at restaurants of this caliber and overall I was very disappointed with Oak. I get better service at snuffers.
A very pleasant dining experience, but a little pricey for what it is.
This is one of our favorite restaurants in Dallas. It is in the design district and has such a neat vibe. The ambiance is incredible, as well as the drinks and the food. The staff, which include Mauricio and Anjel are the best! The staff is very knowledgeable. You can go fairly casual or get dressed up for that special date night.
Oak has always been one of the very best restaurants for business dining. One reason is the noise level was very low. I noticed it was a bit louder this time. They don’t need to play random pop music in background. Food and service remain excellent as always.
Very knowledgeable staff. Lovely atmosphere and decor. Great food.
This is my new fav Dallas restaurant. Atmosphere is awesome and love the music they play overhead. Food and drink selection is excellent. Very good service. I would highly recommend.
Service was very good. Server was knowledgeable about the menu and the ingredients which were very creative.
Food was innovative and flavorful. I will be back
Great place for a business meal or family one as well. Great food and reasonable pricing
First of all, the bartender (I think his name was Chris?) was on point with his crafted cocktails!!!! I mean some of the best custom cocktails I have had (if not the best) in the city! My boy friend thought the same.
Derrick, our waiter, was a great server as well. Great recommendations and everything was perfect for my birthday! I am so happy I chose this place!
The Kobe steak was melt in your mouth good. My boyfriend's scallops were delicious. The warm brownie was just the right amount of rich and decadent. Oh! And we started with a charcuterie board which is HIGHLY recommended. We tried to stop ourselves from getting too full just from that.
It can be hard to find amazing service, cocktails, food, and ambiance all in one place, but I think I have found my spot!
First time visit, was very impressed with the Food. It was Excellent. The service was good and restaurant is very nice. Will be going back for sure.
Wonderful atmosphere, wonderful food!
We have hesitated for some reason coming here for years, that was dumb!
This place is really a gem....the menu is perfect nothing we chose was short of excellent.
Try this place it needs more patrons, and deserves them!
We will be back within the month!!
Disappointing experience overall - although cocktails and appetizers were good, entree (Prime Filet) arrived over cooked and COLD. Weak attempt to correct this faux pas by all involved. Service was slow and atmosphere was dead. Try another place in Dallas - there are many others that won’t send you home hungry and disappointed.
Great food and service! 😉
It was my first time at Oak and I had heard great things. I wasn't disappointed! Both my guest and I ordered the fish tacos, but we asked if they could grill rather than fry the fish. The waiter was unsure if they could, but the chef came through with flying colors. Being a fan of San Diego fish tacos, these were the best I've had in Texas! I have lived here since 1985!
My husband and I went out for our anniversary and found Oak by reviews online. We enjoyed the experience. We had the Tenderloin Tartare appetizer which was amazing. I ordered the Tandoori Branzino which I paired with a glass of the Dumol Chardonnay. The wine was fantastic, a full bodied buttery chardonnay (my favorite). I had higher expectations for the branzino though. I've heard of it, but not had it and this was a bit of a let down as I believe it was a tad over cooked. Don't get me wrong, it was still delicious. My husband had the Tagliatelli which I had a bite of and the flavors filled my mouth, super flavorful with the chili pesto. Mangia!! I would definitely recommend Oak and come back again.
We went to Oak for our 12th wedding anniversary and the service was impeccable. We had a reservation and we were seated promptly. The ambience is high end. We had the fried quail and steaks (ribeye). For sides we had the brussel sprouts and the risotto. Everything was delicious. My husband thought the steaks were a little salty as well as the risotto but I thought everything was delicious. I definitely ate all my food! They knew it was our anniversary and gave us a custom dessert as well as a card. They were very thoughtful and made our date very special. I would highly recommend this place!
We tried Oak for the first time to celebrate our wedding anniversary. The food was fantastic! The chicken was the best I’ve had- the waitress explained it was the quality of meat which comes from a farm in hill country. The mushroom risotto and Brussels were also delicious. Service was great! Our waitress brought us champagne to celebrate our anniversary. I already recommended to several friends.
Really excellent meal. The food was very good, but pricey. Noe was our server and was great. Loved the decor of the restaurant.
With this review I am comparing Oak to other restaurants of similar price range. At this price range, the meal is an experience, not just a means for food. Oak may be better than 3 out of 5, but for us they were a 3. For background, my wife and I went here for our anniversary. I get that we look young - we are in our early 30s and definitely look younger than the typical clientele at Oak. For whatever reason (though we suspect our young age), it seemed like we were getting slighted on service quality. On multiple occasions, we heard our server give detailed descriptions of menu items to the tables around us while he literally gave us zero of that. He was nice, but this omission was readily apparent to my wife, a foodie. Our server also got our order wrong in two ways: he forgot (said he didn't write down) an appetizer we ordered and then doubled ordered (and doubled supplied) a more expensive other appetizer we had ordered, something we didn't realize until the bill came. Neither of these errors were corrected. Oak has a great ambiance, and the food we had was very good, but overall, at this price range, it was a 3 out of 5.
Food and service were great. The decor is more relaxed than my last visit a few years ago. Less formal now, but the prices are still cha-ching. I like the ambiance better than before. Very imaginative menu. Quiet. Oak enjoys its own niche.
Terrific for lunch. Hamburger from 60 day aged beef was best ever. My wife's salad was also excellent. It was not crowded. Only negative was the music blaring from speakers that made conversation challenging.
Music was a bit too loud. Very few people in the restar that time, so there was no need to have it at that level.
Loved the atmosphere and the wait staff. Food was good!
I was visiting from San Francisco for the first time and wasn't sure what to expect in Dallas. Oak was a terrific find. The food and service was fantastic. Since it was a quiet Tuesday we delayed our courses to enjoy ourselves. Secretly it was to make room for dessert. The warm semi-molten chocolate brownie our server suggested hit the spot. We debated having a second. Our only mistake was to not sit outside to eat, something difficult to do in San Francisco.
