This is a high-energy atmosphere. The food was good, nothing that stood out to us. Our server left for the night without letting us know. I would recommend this place if you are with a group.
The service was not good. I have been to Oak several times and brought three people who had never been there and I was embarrassed by how poor the service was.
I really wish they told me that their food menu for Valentine’s Day would be pre-fixed. I called early in the day and wasn’t given a heads up; I def would’ve changed my plans especially once we saw the scarce available options.
amazing upscale restaurant, do not recommend bringing kids here unless they have a expensive taste.
If you serve a limited menu. Thats ok. But say it.
Terrible Valentines Day Menu. That was all they were serving too like some crappy assembly line and you couldn’t even order anything else off the menu except drinks. No Valet either and it was cold af that night. Thought it was suppose to be some kind of nice or upscale. The food combinations were really not that tasteful and since you were restricted to them you had to eat around what you like and you didn’t. My steak wasn’t really seasoned well nor the rest of my plate for that matter. The waiter I got was older/very competent and seemed like he had worked in fine dining before so I still tipped him well despite everything else. I also ordered an extra 2 steaks off the valentines assembly line menu(minus the seasoning) for my Great Dane and Bulldog at home and they seemed to enjoy them. Overall terrible experience. Wouldn’t recommend.
My wife cannot eat certain things and this restaurant was chosen bc of their menu. The website does not indicate that there is a mandatory Valentine’s menu. But does list a Valentine’s menu. When we arrived there was a Valentine’s menu that was not that which was on the website and we were told that there was no option to order on the regular menu. We had a drink and then had to leave to get food. Poor communication, poor service, and a poor experience in general.
We were running late(bad weather/roads) & they were still accommodating and kind. The food was small portions but, it was a set menu for a holiday weekend and still filling. The cocktails were delicious. Service was good and timely as we eat quickly, so that was nice to not have to wait for food. We’ll definitely visit again & would recommend for a nice date night.
They must have changed leadership. Watched 2 tables get up and walk out after looking at menu and surroundings. A bowl of store-bought hummus with celery sticks in it for Amuse..... no choices on menu. Salad was unbelievably sad, steak below average. Will never go back.
We went for Valentine’s Day so the fixed menu was
I took my gf there for her birthday dinner. The server and entire weight staff was attentive and the atmosphere was great. I loved it more than her!!!!!!
Love the restaurant. Food always great!
Oak was incredible, as always, however, Victor was absolutely outstanding and made our experience even better than expected! He had honest recommendations, all we were very pleased with. You know when they say the staff can make or break the experience? Victor made our evening exceptional. Oak is very lucky to have him on their team. Overall, very happy with our entire experience, from food to service to off-menu cocktails to dessert paired with his recommended port wine. Highly recommend!
Service was great food and the was delicious. It wasn’t quick but a good time was had by all.
Had to send the duck back twice at which point I gave up and ate nothing. First order was too cold (perhaps from the extended wait for a bottle of wine), sent it back and then the next one was overdone.
Delicious dinner, restaurant interior is gorgeous and our bartender was fantastic. I would HIGHLY recommend changing the music that is played- it resembled top 40 pop, and extremely different than the ambiance you were creating. The music was quite distracting.
We attended OAK for a birthday dinner with a few girlfriends. The service was great, our water glasses stayed full and they were kind and polite. The martinis were delicious, beautiful, and unique. We ordered the Ceviche and though the portion was a little small, it was incredibly delicious, so well worth the cost. We were served bread and two varieties of butter that were also fresh and delicious. I ordered the Tiger Roll and The Swordfish, and let me say, that swordfish was fantastic and perfectly cooked. Our meal was on point and leaving us wanting to return again soon to have it again. The ambiance was beautiful and romantic. Great music too! The only slight downfall was how long it took after we were finished, to be asked if we would like our check. It was busy though, so understandable. We just would have enjoyed another drink had we known it would have taken so long before receiving our checks.
Overall GREAT EXPERIENCE and will be back.
Exceptional food and outstanding service. This restaurant is a must-try! We had the pleasure of ordering the Wagyu Filet and Prime New York Strip, they were both incredible. Our sides were Brussel Sprouts & Pancetta (perfection!) and Mac & Cheese, they were also delicious. We look forward to returning the next time we are in Dallas!
Great atmosphere. We really miss the old music. They used to have a really good mix of current and classics that was perfect for fine dining. Our waiter was wonderful as usual and steaks were great. The portions of side items have been reduced so do not expect to share.
It seem like my server was his first day on the floor, manager approach our table he offered to comp dessert server offer to comp our steak and we got charge for both, busboy and bartenders did a better job!
Arrived 10m before reservation to only be seat 20m after our time. We were asked to go to the bar where we wait 5-7m with no one acknowledging us at all.
Went to order food waiter didn’t even tell us what was already sold out let alone husband ordered an entree that didn’t come with a side... wasn’t informed to maybe getting one from waiter till we got our food. Order a lamb chop only to try to eat with a butter knife. Horrible first time experience
Over priced, slow service, bland food, cocktails were hit or miss
Really, really bad service. Booked a week in advance, didn't get seated until an hour after our reservation time. Put us in a back room obviously used for overflow. Ordered steak medium rare, it came well done. Every single table was full, no distancing whatsoever. Bad experience all around.
Terrible food - terrible service - terrible management team. I will never waste my time or money at this restaurant again. There were four of us and we all had a terrible experience with our food. I put this restaurant in the same category as Jack in the Box!
They seated all tables right next to each other, which didn’t seem very Covid friendly . Octopus and margaritas were great, but the steak seemed like it was cooked on a George Foreman grill, and the swordfish was very dry.
It’s been some time since I last discovered a restaurant with quality as high as what I found at Oak. From serving staff to cocktails to overall ambiance - our expectations were far exceeded. Phenomenal octopus and swordfish. Thank you Oak for making this last minute date night one for the books. We’ll be back.
I would give Oak 10 stars! Our table of 4 was very impressed. The service is top notch, decor exactly what you would expect in Design District, and no detail is overlooked. Menu has a great variety. You’ll pay for quality but it’s worth it!
Loved our experience and they really did an outstanding job helping us celebrate our 10th anniversary. Cheers to the staff that made it such a memorable night.
From the food to the service and the ambiance, Oak is an amazing option to go enjoy a nice steak or any of the entrees on the menu. We ordered the NY strip and it was cooked to perfection. We, also, ordered the swordfish and it was truly amazing. The servers were so attentive, knowledgeable on the menu (both food and drink), and polite. I would recommend this place for any type of occasion; date, business meal, birthday, etc.
Fantastic! Quiet and quaint, with an outstanding seasonal and fresh menu.
First time dining at Oak for all 4 of us. Lovely room, delicious food, terrific service. Just a great night overall!
I can not rave about the service more, the staff was amazing. The food however, is a different story. I don’t know if the kitchen staff just had a bad night but... we ordered two different appetizers, the octopus and the wild boar meatballs. Both of these were pretty great. My wife ordered the Halibut, it was extremely dry and over cooked. Two of us ordered the dry aged NY Strip. We both asked for medium rare, they both came out well done. I have never sent my food back in my life, when the waiter came back to ask how we liked the food, before the sentence finished leaving our mouths the waiter saw the cook on the steaks and immediately said he would have new ones made. The second ones came out at the correct temp, but for a dry aged prime steak, very little flavor and tough. I know I ordered a NY strip and not a filet, so I wasn’t expecting to be able to cut the steak with my fork. However I shouldn’t have had to saw through it either. Each of the 3 sides we ordered for the table were incredible, but the stars of the meal certainly fell flat. The manager was very accommodating, brought us a couple desserts on the house. So Place was cool, good bourbon selection if you’re into that. Great sides and really good desserts, but the entrees were not the best.
Food was good with smaller portions. Seemed rather over priced. Music was excessively loud which destroyed a romantic evening with ambience.
Excellent selection of food. We shared several plates; swordfish and truffle mac and cheese were standouts. attentive and friendly service. Drinks and wine selection were excellent.
A very pleasant evening!
Food was fantastic. Oysters were our favorite. Squash soup amazing too.
New Years Eve was a pretty big disaster. Just like the other reviewers, we were seated 1 hr and 15 min after our 9:30 reservation because of overbooking. It was really clear the folks working the host stand didn’t have any strategy or game plan. They were overbooked, and there was an angry mob of hungry people at the front demanding to be seated having waited over an hour.
May I make a suggestion? If you are overbooked for a massive event like this, you should plan for it. Call the people who made reservations within the last week and tell them that unfortunately, the system allowed more reservations than you can accommodate and ask to reschedule them for another evening with a 20% discount. Let the folks who booked far in advance get to keep their reservations, and focus on providing excellent experiences to fewer reservations, rather than try to over accommodate and provide terrible experiences to everybody.
The host seemed like she was saying “Yes” to every single person who came up asking if their table was almost ready. I saw 9:30 reservations be seated before the 8:30 reservations. It really seemed like anyone who caught the host at the right time would grab the next table that was open. Again - no game plan.
Next, the food was pretty marginal for $95 pp. Because we were seated at 10:45, the kitchen finally had time to catch up and we didn’t have to wait too long, but it was nothing to write home about. It definitely feels like a waste of a $200 evening. Our server was kind, he comped our drinks without being asked.
I did feel bad for everyone working that night, it seemed so disastrous, trays of glasses were shattering behind the bar. The front of the restaurant by the host stand was packed with angry people. Folks were getting up from their table after the first course and walking out.
The restaurant should reach out to the reservations and offer people incentive to return, such as half off a meal for 2 or what not. Maybe I’d try again if that.
I’ve been to Oak several times before and loved the quality of the food and intimacy of dining. However, my dinner on NYE was quite possibly the worst dining experience I’ve ever encountered. We made reservations for 8:30 and didn’t get seated until 9:40 due to “overbookings.” After sitting down it took at least 20 minutes to get a round of drinks. By 11:00, all we had received was our first course, which was a single oyster. We ended up bailing on the rest of the meal and I can’t say I’ll ever go back
We went to Oak for NYE and it was by far the worst experience I have had at a restaurant. We arrived for our reservation promptly at 8:15 and were not sat down until 9:30. There was a preset menu that we ordered from and we waited until 10:30 without even getting an appetizer. We left the restaurant with empty stomachs after wasting over 2 hours there. The staff was not sympathetic and the kitchen was a disaster. I highly recommend reconsidering before choosing this restaurant for any occasion.
Our first visit. NYE. Kitchen was overwhelmed. Five course prix-fixe menu took one hour to get through the first two courses. Aesthetically beautiful place with so-so service and food.
Took my hubby for his birthday and we had a great experience. The bartender was great - we'll be back to sit at the bar!
