Oak - Dallas
Oak Grilled Octopus
texas pea salad - serrano ham - calabrian vinaigrette
croutons - tomatoes - anchovies - red onions
Food was excellent but it took us over an hour to receive our order. Unacceptable.
The restaurant was nice with great music although it was a bit loud.
We were seated immediately but it took a little while for our server to greet us and provide water and take our drink order.
I'm confused about the server with the bread basket. Was there a shortage on bread last night? I've been to Ocean Prine, Del Frisco Double Eagle, Eddie Vs and a few other places many times. They provide bread for the table and not a person serving you one piece. (that was a first...very odd)
We all ordered the same main course which was the new york steak. 2 had it medium, 1 medium rare and the other medium well. When they served our meal they just placed it on the table in front of each of us and we just assumed we were getting the correct temperature steak. We didn't...after we took a bite or two of our steaks we realized three of ours were mixed up. I don't like sending things back because I don't want to take any chances. So we just swapped our steaks with each other.
We ordered brussel sprouts based on a review and the truffled mac & cheese. The BS was not good and my BF said the mac & cheese was not either.
Our server was Carter and he was MIA for much of the evening. I didn't realize they charge for refills on soft drinks so this explains the reason he wasn't just refilling our drinks...I guess. Again the other restaurants mentioned above have free refills.
Also, our table was right next to the host desk. The host would make sure to tell us to put on our mask when going to the restroom. However, there was some man talking with the host and several other employees walking around with no mask on nor was the man's little daughter who was walking around the restaurant wearing a mask. I guess he and his daughter signed up for the trial vaccine somewhere and we were not made aware they didn't need to wear a mask.
It just may have been an off night for the restaurant...it happens!
Truly the worst dining experience we I’ve ever had. Apologies for going long here but there are so many details to this that it has to be mentioned
We waited 2 hours for our main course until we finally asked the wait staff what was going on. First, we were told “we had more people here ordering restaurant week than expected”. Then we were told that they had a “computer glitch”. Both of of which do not make any sense as to why the food was MIA. This was a Saturday night with the restaurant at average capacity considering COVID so those excuses don’t check out. Tables who sat after us got their food, ate, and left before we saw our food.
To try and make up for it, they gave us a bottle of champagne on the house. However, upon further inspection this was a bottle I could have easily picked up from the store for about $8. Our table was easily going to have a ticket nearing $400, and that’s how they make it right?
When we finally get our main course, quality was sub par. I ordered a Wagyu filet and I honestly couldn’t tell a difference with a normal filet. The sides and starters were not very noteworthy. Amazed this was served at a fine dining restaurant.
Of course, we expecting a lot of our bill comped given all of these problems. When we finally received our check, they had taken off a total of about $15....off of a check of $400. You cannot charge people those prices when we are paying for top quality and service. We immediately sent the check back. The manager then sent us a new check with about half of our bill comped, which I figured was acceptable.
This restaurant needs an honest review of customer service and food quality. If they can’t get these figured out, they need to close this establishment.
We really enjoyed our anniversary dinner! Thanks to Oak for great food and service.
Very good food and service. We did the restaurant week prix fixe. All was good, but the arugula salad was a bit dry and bland. They also had the air pumping and it wasn’t that hot outside, so I was freezing. But worth checking out - restaurants need business now.
Delightfully decorated! Wonderful food and pleasant atmosphere. The staff was undeniably professional.
The food was delicious! I do feel the room we were in was a little too dark but that wasn't a problem until towards the end of our meal, anyway. I always love Oak's atmosphere and food and they were still picture perfect this time.
The restaurant went above and beyond
FABULOUS SUPPER & OMBIANCE🤍🤍🤍🤍🤍
Service was great. Bartender Chelsea was very attentive and helpful. Server Oscar was professional and courteous. Host was very thankful for our business.
Food (scallops and steak) was very tasty. The chocolate dessert could've used much more crème fraîche. Downer was being seated 30+ minutes after reservation, but we *are* in COVID times...
Don't go during Covid. No social distancing between tables. They don't enforce face mask and they don't scentize tables between clients. Very risky!
Food was okay but not great! We loved the drinks.
I enjoyed everything about the restaurant except for the Service. My reservation was at 7pm, which is a great time because there were only 4/5 other tables present. My table was the only table in my server's section (i found out later), so our Server had more than enough time to take our orders before his other 3 tables arrived which for the next table wasn't for another 20 mins. By the time his 2nd table arrived, the Server had only brought us water and took drink orders. Don't ask for any modifications bc you will receive a blank stare, followed by an non-customer service friendly answer. I prefer sweet martinis, so when I asked for my Apple martini to be made on the sweet side, the server said "The drink comes as it is". I have been a food server in the past for several years, so not only do I understand when breaks need to be given to servers but I also have high expectations since I have done the job before. After that comment, dinner went down hill. The drink brought to me was very tart. I asked for the drink to be made sweeter (as I did the 1st time), wh/the bartender modified and tasted fine once returned to me. This could've been achieved the first time around. By now the 2nd table in the section had arrived, and our dinner order had not been taken. The server didn't return to our table to take our order, for another 20-30mins. He tended to the other 3 tables that sat down before finally coming back to take our dinner order, and mentioned all 4 tables sat down at the same time. Incorrect - 1 table sat down first, the 2nd 20mins later, and 3 and 4 sat down at the same time. Time management and prioritizing were not strong skills set for this server. For a 7pm reservation, we didn't start eating until 8:15pm. Once our food orders were taken, the food that arrived tasted great. I would return to the restaurant and tell my friends about it, but I definitely would ask and tell my friends not to be sat in his section.
The restaurant smells like sewage.
I've eaten here before and had a wonderful experience but this last time it appeared that there might have been 1 server for the whole main area of the restaurant. We were a table of 5 with reservations. Several times during dinner, we had to send one of our parties to the bar to order drinks because we could not catch the waiter or have drinks delivered within a reasonable timeframe - that being more than 15 minutes between ordering and receiving. Also, the drinks (mainly old fashions) often were missing garnishes, etc. which we had to request separately.
You could tell the server was working VERY hard, yet unfortunately, could not keep up with the number of tables assigned. Each interaction with the server was very rushed and very minimal in total.
In regards to the food, 3 out of 5 entrees were great. The disappointment came with the steaks that were ordered - as they were very expensive 70+ a piece and unfortunately were overcooked. The request was for rare and both steaks came out medium at best.
At this point in time, we had waited a very long time and didn't really want to wait longer for them to re-cook the steaks - which you could say was our fault - yet then 3 out of the 5 would have been eating with the other 2 people just sitting there.
I hope that this is a rare occurrence and perhaps could be chalked up to Covid-19 staffing difficulties, but for a $600+ and a celebratory birthday, I would have expected a better experience. I also since have learned that it was Dallas restaurant week, so perhaps they was also a bit of a learning curve that night.
Food was good, but service was too slow. Although friendly wait staff, they were not attentive unless you flagged them down.
Overpriced moderate quality food. Friendly but very slow service. Loud background music. Refused to turn down volume when asked. Overall very disappointing as compared with the Oak of the past. Doubt we will revisit.
We LOVE this restaurant and really hoped they were respecting social distancing guidelines. Went for restaurant week and the menu was a little disappointing for the actual restaurant week items, but the Regular menu items were wonderful. The problem was that they had their tables at almost 100% capacity, which made us very uncomfortable and wanted to leave as soon as possible. So disappointing. Don’t think I’ll be going back for a long time
Very good dining. Came here during restaurant week. Their California roll was awesome and the steaks were cook perfectly. Will return!
We were really looking forward to going back to Oak when it re-opened. Unfortunately, the service wasn't great, the food was ok but not outstanding and we were there for a business dinner and couldn't hear our conversation over the loud music.
The bad experience started from when I called to confirm our reservation. The host was rude and very short with me when I confirmed details of the reservation that it was for my fiance's birthday and how hard a year she had had. When we got to the restaurant, it was so hot inside that it was very uncomfortable. It was definitely 80 degrees or hotter inside. We asked the waiter if he could adjust the temperature. He said he would, but nothing was ever done. I asked the waiter for some recommendations on wine and he did not have any, but he said he would ask the bartender. At least twenty minutes later, he came back and asked what is my price range. I thought after twenty minutes and serving the table next to us twice during that period, he would at least have a recommendation by then! The table next to us was loud and very drunk and yet our waited continued to attend to them ignoring our table for the most part. The oysters that came out were terrible and very thin. The waiter did do something special for a birthday at the table next to us. However, he never recognized my fiance's birthday despite including it in the original reservation and re-confirming it when I called in to the restaurant to confirm the reservation. The food was terrible (and overpriced at that), the service was terrible, and the ambience was loud and hot. We will never eat there again.
Service was extremely slow. Food was just okay. Nothing special for restaurant week. Food was served after one hour wait and just Luke warm.
I have to admit that I probably built the experience up too much before I went because I had such an amazing experience 2 years ago. My friend and i decided we would check it out for restaurant week to break up the monotony of covid. When we got to the empty restaurant we were not allowed to change our table that was literally the worst table there right in front of entrance. All of the tables had been assigned to people that were not even there. The drinks were mediocre. The service was mediocre and slow. The food was super average. The salad was shabby. Thank God they cooked the steak at the right temperature, even though it took 1 hour and 37 minutes to get it. The mousse was rich in thickness and tasted like it had sat next to a few onions first. The service was so poorly executed that many times the host and the manager had to help buss the tables. Very very underwhelming.
Service was cordial but slow and some food requests never made it to the table. Seems to have been a lot of staff turnover since reopening after covid. The bar menu has changed and bartender was new so some of the previous favorite drinks weren't offered nor could they be made. Food was a hit and miss. Starter sushi rolls were great, but crab cake was terrible. It was one cake and it was basically loose crab meat in a pile. I ordered the salmon dinner and it was nothing special and a bit overcooked. It's a beautiful restaurant, but overall a let down.
It was perfect! Service was very personable, and we had a great time.
All around great experience.
The food was spectacular . Very cool atmosphere but the music was so loud we couldn't hear each other or the staff. The manager had no interest in our feedback. Go for the food.
AMAZING!!! We visited from atlanta and all had so much fun there. The staff, food, drinks, and service were incredible. I would recommend Oak to anyone!
We waited 30 min to be seated... with a reservation. Waited 30 more minutes for a drink and 3 hours for one entree. Forgot my soup, didn’t even care because I was just hoping to finally be released from that Hell at some point. It was a graduation dinner so needless to say we were disappointed and will not be back. Lol.
It was my girlfriend’s birthday celebration. They called to confirm reservations and assured me she’d have a special night. It was overcrowded with no adherence to spacing, every table was packed. Our reservations were at 7:30, we were seated at 9:00pm. We had to ask for refills on water. We had to ask for bread. At 10:20pm without receiving food - we left, we had to get back to birthday girl’s baby sister without dinner. It was wrong to not offer us anything except “I’m sorry” and I am sure the poor servers were overwhelmed. It was very poorly managed. This is the first negative review I’ve written in my lifetime. Disappointed is an understatement.
They are very understaffed with impacted service greatly. They only had two servers for the whole restaurant. They did the best they could but was unfortunately not a great experience. The food was good.
Really poor service
The only reason I’m not giving this place more stars is because the service was absolutely TERRIBLE!
The food was delicious though, so that is the only saving grace of this place.
A Saturday night, ambience was nice, restaurant was full despite Covid, you could tell wait staff not up to capacity (I assume due to Covid which I understand) but given the crowd, wait times were very long. We waited over an hour for our food. And when it arrived, it was only warm, not hot like it should have been. Kitchen help must also be understaffed at this time. The quality of the food was underwhelming. Overpriced for the quality. Would not recommend until well after Covid is over and will have a hard time going back myself.
Oak is always a wonderful experience. At first the music playing was loud but our waiter did his best to turn down the volume and after a while we did not even notice it. Our only issue was every table was full. A little worried since Dallas is at 50% capacity during Covid. The staff asked us to wear our mask to restroom please. Most people cooperated. All they can do is ask and we appreciated that they did. The new menu is amazing. We had the Alaskan Halibut and the Caesar salad. Halibut was cooked perfectly! Salad had fresh anchovies and was delicious!
The staff was very polite and professional. The food was pretty good and the atmosphere was nice however the service was extremely slow and clumsy and the drink/wine prices seemed excessive.
Great family dinner. Excellent food and motivated service. Wish we had a table away from the door and the AC was stronger. However, this is a go to place!
Loved this new place! Our bartender Chelsie was friendly, made the best cocktails and food suggestions!
The food was excellent and the servers were very kind . My only complaint is that apparently this restaurant has many frequenters/ regular diners and with capacity limitations those diners’ reservations are given priority and they get the better seating . We were seated at a bar top table with uncomfortable seating if you’re short . But again the staff was very kind and swapped out my chair with one from the bar counter that was much more comfortable . My recommendation is make your reservation with a request for a booth/ regular table specified (odd to have to request I know) but that was your experience will be perfect .
We had a great meal and wonderful service from all of the staff. We will definitely be back!
Excellent food! Wedge salad was packed with real blue cheese and a very generous helping of bacon. Had the flight of filets. Awesome with vast selection of sauces to try with it. Nice wine selection. Great service.
