Oak + Rowan
Symbolism of Rowan: Power, Vision, Mystery
These attributes struck a chord with Restaurateur Nancy Batista Caswell when she discovered 321 A St. Oak + Rowan, a 150-seat restaurant nestled in Boston’s historic Fort Point Channel, reminded Caswell of the lofty tree tops and youthful excitement of a tree house. The menu celebrates all things land + sea; with an emphasis on prime steak, locally sourced fish and oysters, sustainable caviar, handmade pasta and alluring desserts. All of this is executed to tell the story of our farmers, artisans, foragers and winemakers in a very personal way. We invite you to dine with us in a space embellished with distinct lighting, a sleek 22-seat bar and 2 private dining rooms, all secure under lofty ceilings reminiscent of those childhood tree houses. Our commitment at Oak + Rowan is to provide a atmosphere unlike no other, just as if we invited you into our home.

Had the chefs choice and it was fantastic! Paired with the wines and they were perfect with the courses. Our server Julie was great with suggestions and service! Love the interior and the ability to have open windows and fresh air.
Very comfortable seating! Will be back soon!
We ordered 8 appetizers to split as our meal, so we had a good sampling of their menu. We really did not enjoy much, we found that things were poorly cooked and flavors did not meet. The exception was the sea bass on the raw section, this was really great as well as the fusili.
Creative, and well prepared! Pace of the meal, and service was exceptional! Always a treat at Oak & Rowan!
We made reservations for our anniversary and we were able to sit as soon as we arrived. First impression was really good, they sat us by a window, we got our meals and drinks on time and the waiter checked in on us just enough times. We both had cocktails and they were on point and we got two champagnes on the house since it was our anniversary, which was a nice touch. But overall for the price, it was just good not excellent. The foods portion was small although for a more upscale I guess this what you expect and the food just did not have much taste for our palates. I kept waiting for that food ‘high’ that makes you want to go back to a restaurant to eat again and I never got it. With that, I’m sure the chef is very good at what he does and someone else might appreciate it but it just did not do it for us.
The food was amazing, the drinks were amazing, the scenery was amazing. My boyfriend and I will definitely be back. The bar service was a bit slow but their drinks are complex so it’s understandable! Casey, the GM was so accommodating and friendly. Quick walk to seaport too!!!
Chose to go here for my bday dinner and everything was wonderful! I called to let them know we were running a little late and the hostess kindly recommended a nearby parking lot. We sat outside (it was a bit windy) and our server, Megan, was honestly amazing! I wanted to bring her out with us afterwards! The food was so delicious and their mezcal and tiki cocktails were well made. Definitely will be going back!
My bestie and I had the best experience ever at Oak + Rowan the food exceeded expectations and the service was outstanding. We had an all around incredible experience. We ordered the following delectable items: shaved zucchini salad, the goat cheese focaccia, soft shell crab (life changing), potato gnocchi, branzino main…paired with fabulous wine 🍷 (educated guess)…seriously such an incredible experience 🙌🏾
Such a special place. GO!
We discovered Oak & Rowan during the takeout days and were delighted every time, so when friends announced they were coming into town for dinner, we were excited to snag an outdoors table for four on short notice. The cocktails (mezcal, Aperol) and the starters (oysters, smoked fish pate) were excellent, and the beet salad had us making yummy noises and trying to figure out what, exactly, gave the sauce its subtly umami depth. Our fish (branzino, salmon) was perfectly grilled, slightly crisp on the outside yet velvety and moist inside, and the presentation was lovely: shaved purple turnips, watercress, and a bright green coulis that also defied analysis. The one disappointment (for me, anyway) was that the glorious butterscotch pudding that was on offer during Restaurant Week wasn't on the menu. No water view, alas: The outdoor space abuts a parking lot, so there's traffic noise, but the lot itself is screened from the tables by greenery, so the seating area is pleasantly secluded. Definitely going back!
We had a wonderful dinner. Servers were incredibly professional while still being warm and friendly. Table was comfortable and it was easy to carry on a conversation while still not being too quiet or stuffy.
Our food was excellent. Two of us had Branzino, one had steak and the other two had scallops. We also all shared an order of Tagliatelle which was delicious, but would have been very heavy for a main course.
All in all, an excellent dinner. We will go back for sure.
Great experience! Meagan (Anastasia) is awesome! 😜
We had an awesome dinner celebrating our anniversary. Our server Jason was wonderful, The manager sent over complimentary champagne for us to toast and the food was outstanding! Huge shout out to Chef!! This is definitely our favorite spot in Boston for ambience, food ,service and exceptional quality.
Ambiance was cool- seemed that they were unstaffed like most restaurants, waited 40 min for our first drinks. Branzino was good but small, I was still hungry afterwards, seems like all the dinners were very small portions. Staff was friendly
We were happy to return after a long time with the pandemic. The food was delightful Bas always. Service a little choppy but fine with us. We understand restaurants are struggling and we're just happy to support them. It was good to be back!
Beautiful and amazing food, great service, wonderful!
We had great experiences and our waitress Megan was awesome! Can’t wait to come back and dining again!
Food was good, beautifully served but portions were tiny... first time ever I left the restaurant hungry...
The restaurant was at 30% capacity but they still seated us at the worst table. Service was sub par and the wooden chairs were extremely uncomfortable. Food was really good, but not worth the price.
He food was good, but very small portions and still trying to figure out what the heck you did to the poor duck leg, that was just weird and unnecessary. The hostess was amazing and friendly but the server was a bit aloof.
Food and drinks very good but a little pricey.....
As always, excellent food and attentive service.
All around great experience.
Loved loved the oysters, pigs in blanket, Branzino, beets. Amazing staff with knowledge and care for great service. Prices match quality and wish I could afford it regularly! Desserts are a must - Bridget is a true master.
I would strongly recommend this restaurant! The service was amazing, some of the best we've had in years. The staff was attentive and knowledgeable and their food and wine suggestions were great. We took our niece out to dinner; she's been working with COVID patients as a nurse throughout the pandemic. The restaurant staff treated her like she was royalty and made her feel very special. We wanted our niece to have a good time and Rowan +Oak made that happen. It was a perfect night, perfect food, great ambience, amazing service, job done!
Thank you so much for amazing service per usual. This was our first real dining out post-vaccine and OAR delivered! Every beverage and plate was amazing. It’s obvious how much you value great service... we have been dining here since opening and hands down it’s consistently the best service in Boston (we dine out A LOT). Servers here do all of the little things that make people want to come back... keep that up!
As always, an excellent experience. Service is great and the food is always inventive and beautifully plated.
It was an overall mediocre experience. We had to wait approximately 15 minutes for our table despite reservations (reservations where I indicated it was my husband's birthday). When we walked in, there were at least 4 empty tables that we could see. Maybe they were pacing things for the kitchen -- if they were, it makes no sense that it would all be in the same section to overwhelm the one server in the area.
Which brings me to the second complaint. The one server for our area was clearly frustrated about something. She didn't say hi after we greeted her, abruptly giving us our water. It also took them about another 10-15 minutes after being seated to get our drinks even ordered.
The food was delicious despite servings being small for the price point. The service did improve as the night progressed. I was also confused on why they asked if we were celebrating a special event if they didn't do something about it. We didn't order a dessert, so we weren't looking for a free one, but even just a "happy birthday" would've been nice.
tl;dr Food was good, but overpriced. Don't go there to celebrate a special event.
The food and drinks were very tasty. I enjoyed the overall experience. Our waitress could have been a little more enthusiastic. She was very dry and to the point. Nothing wrong with that just preferred a warm welcome. We also had to wait for a plate we ordered but the manager brought it out. Overall I would def recommend the food was delicious.
Oak+Rowan hasn’t let me down yet! The evening was spectacular and the food was incredible.
Out of all three entrées, appetizer and dessert I would recommend only the salmon. Everything else was average or below average. Small portions for the $38 steak, bland and unmemorable pork chop. The manager was professional and did her best to compensation but we won't return.
John, I am sorry to hear that our extra efforts in the pork chop concern wasn't enough to have you give us another try. thank your for your review.
first meal out at a restaurant since Feb 2020. AMAZING! great meal, great service, and lover outdoor dining experience. can't wait to come back!
thank you very much for your kind words
I loved everything about this restaurant. The cocktails are great but the food is fantastic. I have the smoked fish, beet salad and scallops. I can't say enough about how delicious and fresh everything was. We had dessert #2, which is described as white chocolate, but it is a milk chocolate torta and so delicious ( I dont like white chocolate and my husband ordered it.. I ate most of it when it came out as regular chocolate)
Service was attentive. Vibe was hip but not crazy loud.. We will come back often.
Such a great experience! Our server Julie was so knowledgeable and informative and really helped us curate a great dinner and bottle of wine. Not only that, the owner was there working the floor and dropped off our initial cocktails. Everyone in our group was impressed that she was so involved. Great atmosphere, great kick off to summer weather! Can’t wait to go again.
Everything was as expected. Small portions interesting cocktail list.We left still hungry
Booths were terrible
Food and service were perfect. I’m still craving the beet salad and lobster toast on their brunch menu.
We travelled from Newburyport to Boston for Oak and Rowan for Mothers Day. We are fortunate to be able to live by its sister restaurant Brine. The food and service were excellent . Loved the Seaport District . Enjoyed our meal and company
O&R is amazing. We have been for Mother’s Day, Father’s Day, and our anniversary. Great takes on common dishes like the Trout eggs Benedict, short rib hash and believe it or not the otherwise ordinary ginger muffin. Ambiance and service is impeccable.
While I love Barbara Lynch restaurants and Delfriscos, they are a both great back ups to Oak and Rowan.
We got seated at a table in a dark area on Mother's Day when most of the tables are in a bright dinning room or outside. The area in the back near the kitchen was very smokey and looked like where they hide large groups with kids or brown and black people. Yes, I had that feeling. They got our first course wrong but gave us credit. Small portions for $24+ appetizers and $30+ entrees.
As always, excellent food and friendly service. A real gem in Boston.
