Oak + Rowan
We invite you to dine with us in a space embellished with distinct lighting, a sleek 22-seat bar and 2 private dining rooms, dining rooms to accommodate intimate date nights or gatherings with friends. Our commitment at Oak + Rowan is to provide an atmosphere unlike no other, just as if we invited you into our home.
Went in for dinner with a party of 7 for a birthday celebration. We were seated in a private room that had a large table. It made the meal even more special to have our own space. Service and food were both outstanding. Would highly recommend.
Tucked away on A Street, this restaurant has a big feel, with good space and volume. Would be perfect for a larger group, however my wife and I found it to be private and intimate as well. Food is upscale, menu is limited but good, and the service is good. It's a nice change from some of the more amped up options on Seaport Blvd. We liked it and will go back.
Disappointing. Appetizer flat. No presentation. Meal of duck was below average. And too heavy on the kale. Would see no reason to return.
We love Colin and Keith. The entire gifted staff is amazing.
The service could be better...
VENISON / CARPACCIO
A good spot in a quiet part of Boston
Admittedly, it was NYE, but still incredibly slow service. The four course tasting menu took upwards of 3 hours to complete. While everything was good, we were typically finished with each portion in 10 minutes or less, so it was a lot of waiting around.
New Years Eve menu was outstanding along with wine pairing. Noise level is quite high with no acoustics to lower the sound in an older building. Food made up for the high sound level. Service at bar and table was great!
New Year’s Eve
Food and service were excellent. Lovely semi-private room made for a great atmosphere.
Pedestrian, amateur and inattentive service at upscale prices. Bread was delicious- also $6.00. Server Brought unordered drinks and not ones that were ordered. Didn’t know ingredients of dishes. Cleared plates still being eaten, poured sparkling water when still was requested, etc. One and done
We were out celebrating our friend’s birthday, and decided to stop in and enjoy dessert at Oak + Rowan. We sat at a cozy table near the bar, and our server Alicia took great care of us! She helped us pick out a great bottle of sparkling rose that paired really well with our AMAZING dessert spread! Kudos to the super talented dessert team!
Several other servers came to our table to make sure were enjoying everything, including Nancy, the owner! We will definitely be back again soon! This restaurant is a must-try dining gem in the city!
Incredible time! We had chuck as our server and he was very knowledgeable and engaging. We loved our dishes.. the sea trout was fabulous and the duck was outstanding. We truly enjoyed a romantic meal together. Still one of our favorite restaurants in city!
We went on the night of December 26, so it was pretty quiet. I thought it was a bit pricey for what we got.
Great ambiance with the brick, big windows, and open ceiling! Service was very attentive. Food for the most part was very good. The chicken sandwiches were a hit as were the fish & chips. The lamb in the lamb tacos were tasty and tender. However the tacos needed more sauce and condiments. A bit dry. Will definitely come here again.
The food was ah-mazing! The only downside was our server. He brought us water and then didn't come back for over ten minutes, despite walking by our table several times and us trying to get his attention. When we saw him standing at the bar chatting, one of our group got up and asked him to come back so we could order drinks. This was all ok with us, but the server seemed to remain annoyed and continued to speak coldly to us the rest of the night. We asked for suggestions on wine and food and he literally had no more to say than, "it's all good". But, we loved the restaurant and the food! And, I'm only writing this review to offer the restaurant a chance to improve in that one area.
Fantastic food and spirits.... The wine list is really good as well. The space is spacious along with great beet salad and Kale Salad
Food was great. Server was polite, knowledgeable, and attentive without being intrusive. Bartender was very personable prior to seating. Happy I went, will go again.
Food was great but the service was pretty lackluster. It wasn't our server's fault - the kitchen was backed up and they were clearly down a runner (or two), making the experience spotty at best.
Simply fantastic food, and tremendous service.
The waiter was overly aggressive in removing plates. My friend was still eating when he was taking her plate away.
Another Simply Fantastic Meal and Dinning Experience…
If you have never had the pleasure of dinning at Oak & Rowan in Boston OR you have just not been in a while it is time to get yourself back in! I was blown away with the cohesiveness from stepping into the front door to licking each and every plate delivered to my table. Truly superior service and cuisine set in a chic but relaxed but comfortable atmosphere. Executive Chef Justin Shoults’ new winter menu is exceptional from the daily homemade breads and butter to their mouth watering daily soups and well thought out and executed dishes. Save room for dessert, everything on Executive Chef Brian Mercury’s menu is exceptionally decedent! If you love wine their notable wine list has a great range of old favorites and new wines that you do need to try. The Caswell Team in know for their wine knowledge, as well as the fabulous selection.
Last minute decision which turned out to be the best decision we made. The staff is always polite and professional as always
Great food. Special market fish was very tasty, but pricey. I had to order a side of fries or would have been hungry. Fries good.
Place was a nice cozy place waiter was really nice and friendly enjoyed our time food was really good
Service was ok but not great
Bar was ridiculously slow
Not likely to go back
Went to dinner there Saturday night early, since we had plans later that evening. Service was great and so was the food. Definitely eat there again.
Try Pastry Chef Brian’s desserts- as complex as anything you will see or taste. Everything was delicious!
In Boston for a conference. Dinner with colleagues.
Beautiful dining experience every time.
Awesome! Waiter was knowledgeable and funny. Caviar was excellent and the wine selection was great.
Colin my server was fantastic! He was first class !
I love it here. Every time food is delicious, staff is so kind and the wine and drinks are interesting and delicious! During last visit the place was packed and the owner was talking to all the guests. We introduced ourselves to her and she remembered what we ate the last time we were in and wanted to learn more about us. We thanked her for existing in the area. I highly recommend coming here (eat the new ravioli) it’s the best option in seaport if not Boston.
Food took forever to be served, 2 hours for drink order, appetizer and entree, no desert. When rib eye came it was cold. Waiter apologized and was friendly however.
Bummer- we were so looking forward to a great dinner with great food for a date night. The restaurant is either extremely understaffed or plain- inefficient. The ambiance is great yet the bartender forgot what we ordered several times and the bill was incorrect. We sat at our table 40 minutes past our reservation time ( and checked in with the hostess15 minutes prior to reservation time) When checking back with the hostess- she was no where to be found, several times. Our waiter was scatterbrained and would not let us finish our sentences nor order before he was off and running to the next table or bar or food pick up. The appetizers were very good, the main dishes... uhhhh- my husbands was mediocre and mine, 1 bite was enough, bummer. The drinks were creative and good, if only the bartender and waiter could get it right. Such a disappointment. We will not be back and have already told several friends to take it off their foodie lists.
Everything about our meal was fantastic. There are no bad choices to be made on the menu. Do yourself a favor and stay for dessert - I cannot stop talking about the Foie Gras Brûlée and will be dreaming of it for months.
From the moment we arrived we felt welcomed. Our waiter was extremely knowledgeable about the menu items and was patient explaining each of our selections. From our drinks to dessert this was a dining experience. I recommend anyone that is looking for a great meal consider Oak & Rowan. It is pricey but worth every penny. Chuck our waiter was amazing and so was the food.
What an amazing place to eat! The menu is small, but don't let that deter your desire to eat here, it's cause the chef has perfected everything on the menu. Go with Steak as the priority, and don't miss out on the cheese options as they are absolutely amazing. I had the Filet Rare, my dinner partner had the Bone-In Ribeye Med-Rare, and they were served to perfection in a unique manner I've never seen, somehow with a look of almost pittsburg rare purple yet warm center at the same time and sliced on the plate with amazing design. I will be going back if I'm i the area again. The Service was also great and nice place inside and a great neighborhood gem as there isn't much in the area, but there is nothing that touches this place!
Upscale food, but quite pricey. Took my in-laws there and they were very impressed with the meal.
Expertly prepared food. Delicious!
