Oak + Rowan
Wow! Had several local beers, clam chowder, steak and dessert. Service was amazing as was the food menu and all drink choices! Highly recommend!!
This restaurant offers 3 choices of seating: high tops, booths, & bar! The food is amazing! I ordered the red snapper ceviche & the Maine halibut with white asparagus! So mouth-watering!
We had the rudest and angriest waiter ever. We were together with Japanese guests and our waiter got angry that their English was not good enough and did not pay attention to our orders and did not bring half of the orders (we were 4 people) and reacted aggressively when we told him that we ordered more.
We arrived early for our reservation, we weren't seated for almost an hour. Once at our table, our server was very good and apologetic, but the kitchen took nearly two hours to deliver our entrees. First they delivered two plates to our party of 9, and about an hour later they delivered the rest. The food was flavorful, but cold. Huge disappointment, I'm embarrassed that I brought my friends and family who were visiting out of town here. Will never go back.
The food at the Oak and Rowan was very tasty. All our orders were very slow - whether it was the initial cocktails, dinner, subsequent soft drinks, etc. We were seated for an hour and a half before our dinner was served. It was extremely loud and we were forced to shout at one another to be heard.
Love love loved it. Only problem was parking when your driving in. Wish there was valet 💕💕
The food was ok, and for the prices I would expect a lot more. $40 halibut should have been a bigger cut than the 3 oz portion, and I would expect more than a few tiny morels. The white asparagus was meh. For the cod, I would expect more than a paltry dew roast potatoes, two of which were crispy over wrought. The local greens salad was flat and small-portioned - even local greens aren’t that expensive, and I’d expect more for $14, and more than three tiny slices of kumquat. The goat cheese tasted and felt more like cheap shreds - no sumptuously sour morsels like one would expect.
The wine tasted watered down, Botha Sauvignon blanc and my wife’s Pinot. The waiter was flat, could offer no real insight into the menu, and reached across our faces more than once without an excuse me.
The only redeeming factor was the octopus. Well, that and the fast service, for me to part with far too much for so little and so mediocre, but at least get home quickly.
It felt simultaneously pretentious and second-rate. If the pretense and the prices were dropped, it’d maybe have a chance at average.
The space is like being in nyc for decor- we love the bar. Randy and a new guy was awesome. The new appetizers were bright and fabulous. The desserts are always changing and they have the best rose selection in area for wine! Best place in area if not city!
I had the duck main course and it is the best duck I have ever eaten! The focaccia bread is also amazing, and my dinner partner said the clam chowder was amazing. This is an outstanding restaurant, and I'm from Chicago where we have great restaurants.
Excellent, but...slooow. We went there for a group lunch with coworkers, reservation for 10. It was not at all crowded, so that helped with noise levels, etc. We ordered quite promptly, and then waited...nearly an hour for our food. Which was pretty tough considering we all needed to get back to work. Excellent food, our waiter was great, but if you're in a time crunch, go someplace else.
Loved it! Food was great. Service was great. Would def recommend to any of my friends and will be going back. Also had a 10 month and 3 year old, noise level was perfect where we didn’t feel like we were bothering any other patrons.
O+R always offers the best. The best in service, creative menus, and atmosphere. They work hard and yet seemingly effortlessly to make dining there wonderful.
Fabulous bartender (lee) w extensive knowledge and great customer service. Superb black trumpet mushroom Agnolotti (sp?). Wouldn’t order the cauliflower steak again but had 2nds of the pasta.
Food presentation and quality was great. We had a group of 5 for dinner and would like to see a few more items in the menu that could be shared.
Okay vibe ... Just too many high-end places in Boston who are doing it a bit better.
Chef pours soul into each dish. Flavors are sharp, presentation is artistic. Enjoy Oak+Rowan !
Great place for special dinners! Delicious food with great ambiance!
Wait staff gave great advice. Food was excellent!
One of the best meals my husband and I have had in Boston! Loved the industrial decor. We sat in one of the booths in the front, got there early around 6pm on a Friday night and it was quiet, but by the time we left around 8pm it was hopping! We had a very knowledgeable waiter.
Came in with my brother for Easter Sunday brunch/lunch. Made a reservation online an hour before at high top seating. They seated us in a quiet booth. It was so nice. The food was great, the caviar dip and mushroom toast were delicious! Colin, our server was wonderful and we enjoyed talking with him. This is my 3rd visit to Oak + Rowen and it is always a delightful experience.
Great food great service. If you are looking for a place with new takes on classic dishes, this is the place. You have to try the ice cream. To die for!!
My family of 5 all loved the experience!
Food was amazing
Server it was not that good
It was our wedding anniversary we were celebrating and she was rushing our table kind of trying to make us to leave as soon as possible
Poor slow service. Food lukewarm
Been several times before with a better experience
Restaurant was not open for my reservation. Called and left message, no response.
Had a wonderful dinner here last night with a colleague at the end of our busy conference week. Excellent flavors, high quality ingredients, and great attention to detail. The octopus, the duck, and the winter carrot dessert were the highlights and the service was impeccable. The best experience of all the restaurants we visited throughout the week...thanks again!
Booked a table on a Sat night around 8:30 pm. It was busy and loud when we arrived so we asked for a table away from the main dining area, this was our first mistake. They seated us by the bar and one of the bartenders was our waitress. We ordered an appetizer which came out pretty quickly. And then we waited. We waited 40 mins for our meal. I kept looking at the bartender hoping she’d see that we had no food. Finally we asked another server to check on our meal and it came out almost immediately after we asked him to check and it was cold. All of our dishes had clearly been sitting in the kitchen just waiting for someone to bring them out. Why no one noticed is unclear. My sister sent hers back to be reheated but I was too hungry so I just ate mildly warm duck. It was delicious but def would have been better had it been the proper temperature. My cousin had the lentils and sausage, while tasty there was almost no pasta in the bowl, she left hungry. My sister tried to eat hers but even after reheating her meal was barely warm. The bartender did take her meal off the bill which was a kind gesture but no one apologized for the poor service, if my sister hadn’t commented that it wasn’t really what was expected I don’t think anyone would have done anything. Maybe we were there on a fluke evening, maybe not. Hard to tell but we’d def try another place before returning.
Food was very delicious. I had the duck, only issue I had was food took a while to come out. But our waiter gave us exceptional service so they made up for it with him.
I like this place and have been a couple times. It's very large, so usually easy to get a table. The octopus app was tender and really superb. The duck entree really a hit. It's a small menu, but everything we had was a winner.
Amazing experience, great staff, and very knowledgeable about the food. The duck was amazing 🙌🏼
Had dinner at oak and Rowan this pst weekend and it was delightful. Started off with the house made focaccia bread and loved it so much ended up ordering two. From there had the beef tartar and the east coast/west coast oysters which were fun in preparation. Shared a in between course of pasta which was savory followed by both halibut with seasonal vegetables and sirloin. Finished off my evening with the Napoleon dessert which is off the charts both fun and well executed. Busy night but service was attentive and willing to answer any questions I had. Will be returning as soon as I’m back in the city!!
We checked out the new items on the menu. And truly enjoyed them. We picked a bread.. which was delicious. A vegetable hummus dish was was so bright.. artichoke pasta and ribeye - all so very good. The bartender was so nice and enjoyable to watch. The star here is their winelist. It’s extraordinary and well priced. The cheddar cheese course for your dessert was great too
Very nice. Food was excellent but found it to be a little pricey.
Our waiter was outstanding, but our meal (for three) took several hours. We estimate that it took over an hour for the main course to arrive after the appetizers had arrived!!!
There was much discussion at our table about "how can they make money with such slow turnover?" and "they must be out fishing for the fish with a line reaching out to Canada." Really. Uneven delivery time between courses, and, although we've eaten in Europe and understand a slow meal---this was much too slow.
The cheese entry, the whipped butter rolled in "everything bagel" flavorings, and the dessert were excellent!!! As was the steak.
First time ding here and will be back! We had an early dinner, meeting a friend from out of town. They have a nice selection of wines. We had the house made focaccia bread with an amazing anchovies spread. They chef shared his recipes for both items. Duck , cauliflower steak and more amazing dishes. Check it out
Nice environment and bar scene. The food was good but menu did not inspire me!
I thought the place was pretty loud, even though we asked for a quiet table and were sitting in the small room in the back, we still could barely hear each other. The appetizers and the bread were fantastic. The beef consommé in the pasta was really on point, and the salad had the perfect amount of sour in it, even without dressing (which we purposefully got on the side). Sadly, the main courses were unremarkable, and the cod was so salty, it was literally inedible. We left more than half on the plate and told the waiter about the unbearable saltiness - they still didn't take it off the bill on their own. They did this only after we complained that they didn't when we saw the bill itself - for a place this expensive and "posh" you would expect better - more considerate - service.
Fair at best
Food was not exactly fabulous
Service was good
Drinks were good
Cant say ill be back
Too many good choices in city to go there
Oak and Rowan gets five stars in my book!
The food was spectacular from appetizers to desserts. The service was excellent!
All in all a wonderful dining experience ...we thoroughly enjoyed it.
Very good food at outrageous prices. Either prices need to drop or portion sizes need to increase. After spending about $100 per person, we left the restaurant hungry
The restaurant is really neat set in an old mill building and our waiter, Brandon, was great. But super expensive for what is served.
