Love sitting at bar here. Not big selection of wines by glass but found one I liked. Cheese board was good and the seasonal pasta appetizer really good but pricey for amount. The roasted chicken entree was ridiculously small for 34$. Bar is busy serving the wait staff so not best service.
Noise level ? Energetic? Yes I would say thats true. Like a place to eat pizza and burgers, not fine dining. What a disappointment. The food was good, but the "noise level" took centerstage. Not a place for conversation with friends. Not a place for enjoying fine cuisine. However I do recommend it if you want to have a raucous time with other screaming patrons and price is not a factor.
Interesting takes on some traditional dishes. Tasty with fresh ingredients. Server was very helpful in describing things on menu.
Just too expensive.
I only just discovered Oak + Rowan and it's already a new favorite. Lee is incredible, kind, and extremely knowledgeable about wine and his customers' tastes. I will definitely be back again!
Came in and had a dynamite time. The new clam pasta and new pork belly main courses are extraordinary. Had the clam chowder so flavorful on a cool night. Cornbread appetizer is perfect. The best restaurant in the neighborhood. Server was a very nice young lady.
I went on a Thursday night with a colleague for a casual, late business dinner. The food was excellent — had the crudo app and Pollack dinner. Both were perfect! The gin drink with honey and mint was DIVINE!! Highly recommend.
Great service, very pleasant and knowledgeable waiter. Menu interesting but somewhat limited. Food was excellent
Everything we ordered was delicious! The cheese, the starters, entrees and desserts, all amazing and interesting. Would definitely go back and definitely recommend!
The service was very good but very slow. All of the dishes we ordered were good but the serving sizes are small and expensive for what you get. The music was really loud (we went on a Friday night).
The food did not match the prices or the environment at all. The entrees were far too small, were not memorable and lacked in flavor complexity. Seems like a bad fit for the area and the ambience. I would not go back or recommend them to my friends.
My wife and I consider ourselves foodies and not only have we never written a negative review but we have never walked out from a restaurant, until last night. Service was pleasant but slow. All three appetizers were so bland that we quickly agreed it was not worth taking the risk on the entrées. We paid the check and left. Definitely not a restaurant I will give another chance nor recommend.
What a great find in Boston. By chance we got sidetracked from our usual route and found Oak +Rowan. Made reservations for the next evening. You know that when a restaurant charges for its artisan bread and spread that’s it’s gonna be good. I had the lobster spaghetti and my wife had the swordfish special. Neither dish would disappoint. They were excellent. There was s nice wine list and you cannot leave without trying the homemade cookies and cream ice scream !
Fantastic waiter. Very creative menu, small but very complete. Nice wine list.
Great place for our team dinner. Staff was knowledgeable and friendly. Thank you
Food was okay. It was not busy but service was so slow that we had to ask server when we could expect our entrees. Then, we got charged for an appetizer we did not receive. Calling Oak & Rowan did not result in a refund. I would avoid this restaurant at all costs.
Terrific service; a fine, elegant meal; and a birthday cake that we could not have imagined – and loved.
Kudos, so much thanks!
What a fine experience.
The food was good, not great. Our server was not the best, though, which was weird, since it was a Tuesday night and there was hardly anyone there. He did not stop by often enough and I went for a long time with an empty water glass after I had finished my wine. (Since I had a somewhat spicy dish, this was disappointing.) I would not tell someone not to eat there, as I liked the decor, the location, and I think it has potential. But the meal was expensive for what we got and the lack of attention from our server was disappointing and greatly influenced my experience.
We were warmly received and the suggestions were clearly and well presented
Had a wonderful meal. Service was outstanding! Highly recommended!
I was excited to go to Oak and Rowan and went on a double date during restaurant week! We got their restaurant week menu and the food was INCREDIBLE! But the service was SO slow! When we got there it was like a little over half full and by the time we got the 3rd course the place was empty! It made no sense why it was so slow and it felt like they were doing it to rack up a liquor bill! I would give it another try but an almost 3 hour dinner was far too long
My wife and I tried this restaurant to celebrate our wedding anniversary. We also regularly dine out on average 2-3 times per week. For the reasons I'll list below I would honestly suggest you stay away from this restaurant.
1) I made the reservation through Open Table and where they ask if you are celebrating anything I added Anniversary. Why ask if you're not going to even mention it.
2) Upon arriving on time I waited more than five minutes for the Host / Hostess to check us in. I had to interrupt the wait staff twice to ask them to look for them. If the restaurant was at all busy I could understand this but it wasn't.
3) When the waiter asked if we'd like flat or sparkling water I requested flat; he proceeded to bring sparkling
4) I ordered the NY Sirloin Medium Plus - it came out rare and lukewarm
5) The martinis came out thin and 3/4 filled and ONLY that high because of the slice of grapefruit
6) During our meal we had a visit from two flying bugs - at that point we only wanted the check to escape
Look, I could keep going but hopefully you get what I'm saying. There is nothing good I can say about this place.
i’m always impressed by oak + rowan’s thoughtful, unique dishes. the flavor is always there in every dish. i was also blown away by how well cooked the salmon was. the caramel gelato and chocolate bark were the perfect end to our meal. i was a little disappointed in the slow service this time around, especially given how empty the restaurant was.
Disappointed by the scarcity of vegetarian options on the menu but the food we got was superb
Food was perfectly portioned. Presentation looks great.
Finally, O+R is back to the level I was introduced to it at. Outstanding food and fantastic service. Considering that it was Restaurant week menu for me, I had an outstanding value too. My colleagues paid about the same for their main course alone (one was vegetarian). Salmon was great for both preset and reg menus. Gazpacho with shrimp was not only inventive (that’s their trademark) but one of the best tasting. Desert, which I normally don’t get, this time I ordered and it was amazing! Seriously, just some ice cream !!!
Great service, delicious food and a beautiful space.
Small portions size
The service was so great at the bar. We often sit at the bar so it’s nice to have a great bartender! Great wine recommendations and we ordered multiple courses. New dishes from their chef are impeccable. Tomatoes are flavorful, pastas and the bread! Yum. Keep it coming. Your the best!
This has already been one of my favorite places to eat, but they went above and beyond for this meal. One of my family members has a ton of allergies and the chef specifically took the time to review the extensive list and adapt all of the dishes she ordered so that she could eat it without fear of a reaction. Wonderful service and delicious food! You can't go wrong coming here!
We tried several appetizers that were all excellent. Entrees were delicious and the service was attentive but not intrusive. Will definitely be back.
Arrogant service ruined fantastic food and a cool interior architectural design.
$14 for a coffee French press was outrageous and we could see the bottom of the cup it was so thin. We asked for the coffee to be remade and it was no better after leaving for longer to brew. A service-minded business would have comped the coffee and apologized. No apology from this arrogant server! Shame
The bread! The rye bread was the best part of the meal, followed by the bartender's whim cocktails.
Energetic ambiance with a good menu, execution was close to 4 star, but lack of attention to details severely hindered the overall experience. for example, partially cold meats on the main course, stale and soggy bread sticks with the cheese. Slow initial service, offset by an amazing hostess / sommelier. Overall it felt as if the chef was on point, but no staff to support the talent... which takes away a lot of value from Oak + Rowan, which is too bad, because the wine pairings, cocktails and deserts were on par.
$15 - for 1/8Lb of french cheese with stale bread stick - not worth it
$38 for cold halibut - no worth it
$6 for bread - not worth it, I have my words for the manager who decides to charge for bread...
c'est la vie.
May try again a 2nd time to validate or prove my experience wrong.
Best of luck.
Beautiful space, lovely service and thoughtfully prepared dishes.
Probably one of the best dinners we have had in years!! Excellent all around. Flavors and portions - amazing. What a delight. Got duck and lobster spaghetti. I dislike rye bread but theirs was fabulous- can't say enough about this experience. I also rarely write reviews but was compelled by the quality of our meal.
Very creative menu, excellent presentation
Excellent! Lovely evening, great table. Very good waiter. I'll be back!
