O-Ku - Raleigh
I’ve been here before with a big group and had excellent service. However, this visit with just my husband was subpar. Service was excruciatingly slow. It was clear they were short staffed as manager was helping serve tables with both food and drinks from bar. No apology was ever offered for delay. Food was good, but honestly was better the first visit- certain hot items were a little cold and vice versa. Would give it a try again based on first experience being so good, but hope they fix these issues- especially for 7pm reservation on a Saturday.
Food as always as good. The chefs are consistent with quality.
Excellent server. Enjoyed the food — especially doughnuts for dessert!
Good for a larger group business dinner during the week
We're so happy to have O-Ku as one of our neighborhood restaurants. The half-price sushi is a great deal, and the service is always attentive and professional.
LeilaM - we love being a part of the Warehouse District and are so glad you enjoy our Sushi Happy Hour! Come see us one Sunday for 1/2 off Wine & Sake Bottles too!
The best sushi we have had in Raleigh. Creative and delicious! Our server, Sue, did a terrific job. It was our first time and she was helpful with suggestions and answering questions. She was attentive without being intrusive. Cannot wait to go back.
Tonyd - thank you for your kind words - we love Su as much as you! We hope to see you again soon for some more delicious sushi!
Wonderful service and very knowledgable about the menu. Delicious and fresh food.
Amanda - so glad you enjoyed!! We hope to see you again for some sushi happy hour or drink specials!
Our daughter’s favorite restaurant so we went for her 27th bday.
She doesn’t drink so she tried two of the non-alcoholic cocktails and loved them!
We all tried different things and loved it everything. You really can’t go wrong at Oku.
Desserts were lovely too.
Everything was incredible!! Food was impeccable, service was great, and the drinks were delicious! We will definitely be back again soon!
The food was ok, we were disappointed with the quality of the food as we were expecting it to be comparable to the look and feel of the restaurant. But the ambiance and atmosphere was excellent. Our waitress was kind and even brought the birthday girl a nice dessert.
Moria, Thank you for your honest feedback. We are sad to hear the quality of food wasn't of the highest standard. We hope that you'll give us another try to see how really wonderful our fish & various dishes can be. If there is anything in particular that stood out and you want to share, please reach out to our GM Robert at okuraleigh@theindigoroad The O-Crew
The restaurant is fantastic. Wonderful selection of drinks and sushi. Great service and atmosphere. Best of Raleigh.
We are so glad you enjoyed your experience with us!! Stay tuned for new fall cocktails coming soon!
Food was delicious and unique, service was fantastic.
This restaurant out did itself. I had heard amazing things but it was better than we even expected. We had gone for my boyfriends birthday and they offered us complimentary edamame and sample cocktails which were amazing. We would 100% go back and have already recommended this to friends.
We're so glad to have exceeded your expectations! And thank you for sharing your experience with friends - we hope to see you again soon!
Good service and nice setting. Sushi was average but way overpriced.
Always good food and friendly service. Best sushi in Raleigh.
Fabulous experience every time I’ve been! Service is second to none in the city and food quality/presentation is amazing!
Server was nice but seemed nervous. Did not get a lot of explanation regarding the menu and felt a little ignored during dinner despite service seeming slow. Really enjoyed the food and will be back!
Have been going whenever
Best Sushi Bar outside NYC, excellent, quality, friendly, and fresh!
So glad you enjoyed everything! We hope to see you again soon!
We celebrated a birthday there and could not have been more pleased with the meal, service, quality of food. Truly a wonderful experience. It was a tad loud, wish there had been some sound absorption.
Thank you for thinking of us to celebrate your special occasion! We love to show off with our wonderful menu! Next time you visit us, feel free to request a "quieter table." We do have some a few that you will notice a big difference in where you sat last time!
The service was really slow, which our server did apologize for several times. Took forever for drinks and even edamame to arrive. The worst part was our server offered us an appetizer on the house (after we finished our meal). The Wagyu Beef Fritters. As soon as we took a bite, we noticed they were still cold in the middle - like still frozen. We told our server and her offer was to bring more out, which we politely declined because we were full. So, in the end we got nothing “comped” for having to wait so long for everything. After all of that, it felt overpriced and left a lot to be desired. We probably won’t go back.
Birthday Dinner! Everyone was so nice and celebratory!
So glad you enjoyed celebrating with us! Come see us again soon.
My wife and I were celebrating our wedding anniversary. We have gone to Oku a few times and each time we have a great experience thanks in large part to the friendly staff, cool atmosphere and delicious sushi rolls.
Matt - so glad you have enjoyed your visits to O-Ku! Thanks for picking us to celebrate your anniversary! See you soon.
What a wonderful meal and social time we had. The food was fresh, delicious and beautifully presented. The service was perfect and the place is relaxing and well appointed.
Roselle, we're so glad you enjoyed your experience with us!
This is my second time. I’d say they’re top three in town for sushi.
Service and food were exceptional
We made reservations for 5:45 on a Saturday evening; the restaurant was fairly empty when we first arrived but filled up by 6:30. We had two glasses of wine, the Wagyu beef fritters as an appetizer, a variety of sashimi and chicken teriyaki to share as our entree, and the Okinawan doughnut holes with salted caramel to share for dessert for just over $110 including tip. Everything was delicious! Decor is gorgeous and waitstaff was courteous and fairly prompt, but plan on 1.5 hours minimum for dinner.
We are so glad you enjoyed your night with us! We do sushi happy hour M, W, F from 5-7 and half price wine & sake bottles every Sunday so come visit us again to try even more of the menu!
Service is always fantastic, and the food is even better. Not your typical Japanese menu, which is a nice change.
Return (second) visit to O-Ku Raleigh. After a Restaurant Week visit on 08/13/2019, after which I left greatly impressed with the establishment, I made it a point to go back within several weeks, in order to try a more comprehensive sampling of the restaurant’s offerings. 08/13 was a Friday, and the restaurant was certainly busy, but not nearly as busy as it had been during Restaurant Week. The bartender John, with whom I had made acquaintance during my first visit, corroborated this as well. I had a chance to briefly converse with the General Manager Robert once again, though our conversation was much shorter than during my prior visit. Decided to try the Omakase (chef’s tasting menu), which did not disappoint. I was again seated at the counter, where I was able to watch all of my food being prepared. Six courses, including multiple appetizers and entrees, gradually made their way to my counter space over the course of the next 90 minutes or so. As there is little point to going into excruciating detail regarding the flavor profiles of each item, I’ll simply summarize by stating that every item was absolutely wonderful. The chef (whom I believe was the executive chef, Richard Fong) took time away from the prep station to ensure that each item was to my liking. Standout items included a cooked fish (possibly Hamachi Kama?), Uni Udon and desert [chocolate molten cake, green tea ice cream, Sata Andagi (Okinawan-style donut holes with ginger sugar and miso caramel)]. The overall quantity of food was substantial. Again, a top-notch restaurant experience. I’m certain I’ll be returning in the future.
We are so glad you came back to see us again! Chef Richard takes such pride in his work and loves to share his favorite dishes through the Omakase menu! We look forward to seeing you again soon!
We went on to Oku on a double date. We had excellent service and a delightful culinary experience! Great wine selection; we all enjoyed Brown, a California Cabernet. We chose to share a variety of dishes. The Hanger steak was the group favorite, so much that we ordered a second serving. We will definitely go back!
Thank you for picking us for date night! So glad we were able to deliver 5 star food & service! Don't wait too long before you come visit again!
Great service and the food is awesome.
The best sushi I have found in Raleigh!
Flashy place with mediocre food. Nice open room with high ceilings, beautiful wood tables and small sidewalk patio. But so loud we had to shout at each other for our 7pm dinner. The menu is glued onto a wood plank. Why? I get it, "O-ku," but why? They were impossible to read in the dim lighting; we broke out our phones' flashlights. Waitress came by to fill our dipping bowls with soy sauce.
And I mean FILLED, like 1/4 cup. What on earth? It was like having a cereal bowl of ketchup for a pack of fries. It's a condiment, not a side dish. Edamame was way too salty. We got a scoop of wasabi and nice non-pink-dyed pickled ginger for each side of our table of 4. Sushi-sashimi combo took almost an hour and was not, as promised, enough for 4 people. We joked we'd hurry up and finish so we could go have dinner. We were told the maki is half off during happy hour but I doubt we'll be back. Good luck, I hope they work out the kinks.
We were disappointed in the food, especially for its cost. We don’t mind spending $ on food but we thought it was just mediocre and the sushi and maki was limited.
Happy hour sushi was an excellent value, as was the service!
Menu is amazing! Very creative sushi and other Asian fares... chef is very imaginative and the food is fresh and has a lot of flavor. Service is a light 'flighty', but super friendly. Good mix of tables, high-tops and bar scenery.
Mike - we are so glad you enjoyed your experience with us! We apologize for the "flighty" service and will dive into that with our servers so you don't feel like that next time you come!
I come here 3 or 4 a week. Great managers, great staff, great food, great bartenders, great ambiance. Favorite place in town
And great guests! We love that we have become your go-to place in Raleigh! Looking forward to seeing you soon! -The O-Crew
I would recommend it as the food was tasty but it took forever to get there and it wasn't totally full. My main problem with the restaurant is the noise level. It is so loud you can't even talk to people directly across from you. I don't have a hearing problem. I'm surprised they can't do anything to help/muffle the noise. It's a beautiful setting. Too bad.
WONDERFUL!!!!!!!!! phenomenal food, attentive service, a wonderful experience :)
Thank you so much! We hope you'll be back soon for another great experience! Don't forget about half off bottles of Wine & Sake on Sundays and half priced sushi M, W F!!
Delicious food and amazing service!!!! I am so happy that Raleigh is opening up more of these kinds of restaurants. I can’t wait to go back!!!!
We are so glad you found us! Don't wait too long to come see us again!!
