O-Ku - DC
The 120-seat restaurant also houses a lounge specializing in Japanese whiskey as well as a 40-seat rooftop bar, both featuring a sleek industrial design to complement the surrounding neighborhood.
Phenomenal. The ambience. The service. The drinks. The food. The food. The food. Must try all the signature nigiri pieces, and go heavy on the starter plates. Especially anything otoro. Definitely will be in heavy rotation.
We couldn’t be happier with our experience here. We went on a Sunday, which was low key, for a 5pm dinner. The omakase sushi was a phenomenal experience and SO delicious, and we sat at the sushi bar where we could see everything being made. Our server Tyler was friendly and knowledgeable, and the O-Ku team even gave my husband and I champagne and a little card to top off the experience because it was his birthday. We will absolutely be coming back! ❤️
Amazing !! Love the staff !!
Outstanding service. Fantastic meal. Great ambiance from the rooftop. We loved it!
Very good food. Fresh and well prepared. Was able to get happy hour pricing, before 7pm. Made it a real deal. Had a couple rolls and the beef tartare. The seaweed salad was also tasty and a value. Specialty drinks also get a thumbs up. The gin drink is a deal at happy hour. I will return, area is great with some parking
Service and vibe are top notch. Chef needs to work out flavoring on the Robata Grill a little bit. Sushi is excellent.
Hands down, the best restaurant experience we've ever had. The food was incredible and the staff was so friendly and helpful. We'll be back again and again
Great food. Pricey but worth it. The restaurant is beautiful too.
One word: AMAZING. From the moment we walked in to the moment we left, it was 5 star service and I'm hella picky. Our server Amanda was super knowledgeable and knew every.single.item. I can't remember the last I had a server like her: attentive, courteous and passionate (the rest of the staff is just as amazing but I have to give credit where it's due!).
The food was on another level. The fish was fresh and the drinks were tasteful. I ordered the salmon, chu toro crudo and the lobster from the grill - outstanding. Their sashimi and makimono were both delicious but next time I will invest more in their sashimi because it's that good.
I cannot wait to come back here :)
Great food and atmosphere! Really enjoyed the sushi and the happy hour is a great deal with half off the mainstream rolls. People should definitely go!
Loved the location and the vibe. Service and staff were friendly and we felt amazing the whole time
Beautiful space, excellent service and the quality of the fish was so great.
I would definitely return and recommend to others.
Food was very mediocre and definitely not worth the ticketed price. Sushi was average at best, akin to home delivered sushi. The precut fish for sashimi and sushi was being taken out from plastic containers, the fried food was soggy. Overall it was a very expensive and disappointing experience
Food was fabulous and the atmosphere was great! Would definitely go back!
Food was fantastic, I recommend the nigiri and the lobster robata- they made my dad’s birthday super special and for that I am grateful. Also the service was amazing and we really appreciated the unique ambiance of being able to watch the sushi chefs work and grill on the robata. Best new restaurant in the union market area, especially if you like creative sushi.
Wonderful food choices and a great bar. Rooftop deck was very pleasant. Service maintained that balance of being very attentive without becoming annoying. Only downside is the acoustics and noise level indoors. I’d recommend!
Food quality and originality is excellent but not consistent. We ordered the fish special which was over cooked. Last time we ordered that and it was excellent. When told, they apologized and took it off the bill which was appreciated.
Service on the top terrace is very slow and needs improvement. We had to wait more than 40 mins for our Sushi order. They acknowledged the delay and offered us free wine to help with the wait which was nice.
Delightful date night spot. Parking for the whole area is very tight, plan accordingly.
Beautiful place to dine everyone was nice willing to help u with the menu food was delicious bartender really make good cocktail so come out and treat yourself
It was a very nice place, but we were seated inside on a beautiful evening, it was only 6:00pm and there were still plenty of spaces on the outside deck, so I do not appreciate that we were not given an opportunity to sit outside. When we did learn their was space, we were advised “it was too late.”
I mean the food was delish but our server forgot to put our order in. We waited 45 min before anyone realized we hadn’t even gotten a drink yet.
We took the advice of the post and stuck to the cooked items on the menu. They were all excellent. The restaurant is baby friendly, except for not having changing tables.
I'd recommend it for a special occasion, if you enjoy Japanese small plates.
The service was impeccable. The dishes were amazingly delicious. What else can you ask for?
My favorite sushi restaurant in DC. Nice variety of menu offerings. Really fresh fish. The Edamame beans are addictive. Other favorites include the soft shell crab roll, the mushroom grill, the yakitore, and anything tuna!
From the moment you walk through the grand wooden door, the experience at O-ku is a multi sensory feast. Our favorite seating is at the Robata grill. Service is predictably helpful, attentive and yet unobtrusive. You simply will not have a better Japanese inspired sushi experience in DC.
I had the Red Snapper. It was VERY flavorful. The only thing was that the portion was small, but maybe I should have expected that.
The overall service was EXCELLENT!!!
From being greeted by the hostess to leaving, the experience was great. The staff was very interactive. Regardless of who was serving us, the staff would check on our table when walking by. Very friendly, respectful, and responsive service the entire night. DEFINITELY a restaurant to visit in DC.
We were excited to try O-ku based on a friend's recommendation since we love sushi. The food was amazing and top notch and the vibe is great. There were a number of service errors though that left us scratching our heads. We ordered some nigiri and what was brought out was different than what we ordered. When I told the waitress that we did not order the dish in front of us, she acknowledged we ordered something different but said that "that was what she heard" and there was no offer to exchange the dish for what we did in fact order. We also waited almost 45 minutes for our final roll, and the sushi bar team checked on us three times asking why we didn't have our roll yet. When our waitress brought it over, she said she thought we already had our roll (we were sitting there with empty plates the entire time). Finally, when we had the bill in front of us (with our card ready to be picked up), a different waiter brought us another table's check. It was an odd exchange where we pointed to the bill we were holding as evidence that the additional check wasn't ours, but they didn't seem to agree initially. They went back to double check and didn't bring it back, so I assume the issue was resolved. We'll probably try it again since the food was so good, but I wouldn't recommend O-ku until they improve the service logistics.
Really great fantastic food: great quality and menu's ingenuity.
The best Asian inspired food in DC!!
It was absolutely wonderful, the food was the best part. Also the staff were absolutely wonderful and helpful. The bartender made us some wonderful drinks and was telling us more about the restaurant. The waiter was super nice, now that I know what that place is like I will definitely comeback more often.
The service and cocktails at O-Ku were fantastic. Some of the food was pretty much a religious experience. I very much look forward to coming back.
We were expecting authentic traditional Japanese food but they are very very Korean fusion.
They use Kochu-jang which is Korean spicy hot paste on most of anything.
If you like that kind it’s very good but not for us.
The place is very good looking looks almost like the one in Tokyo.
The place is fancy (it’s our thing), people were nice and friendly, and the food was amazing! It’s definitely a 10!
Service and food were both outstanding! Thanks for a great dinner!
Interesting flavors from a new spot to hit the Union Market scene. Great addition to the revitalization of this iconic DC corridor.
Wonderful service, wonderful food and great ambiance.
Taylor was great and took care of us during the evening. A big hit and we highly recommend it.
The location is a bit odd, but it’s fantastic once you enter the restaurant.
We love Oku however, they have taken off the crispy rice with spicy tuna on top from both the DC and CHARLOTTE menus. It was one of the best selections on the menu and we miss it!!!!
Outstanding service, lovely ambiance, fresh ingredients. Some of the dishes like the don buri bowl and sushi like the yuzu tuna lacked flavor. Will try again.
Excellent food, and phenomenal service. The waitstaff was very professional and friendly. Will definitely be going back.
