It was a very nice place, but we were seated inside on a beautiful evening, it was only 6:00pm and there were still plenty of spaces on the outside deck, so I do not appreciate that we were not given an opportunity to sit outside. When we did learn their was space, we were advised “it was too late.”

I mean the food was delish but our server forgot to put our order in. We waited 45 min before anyone realized we hadn’t even gotten a drink yet.

We took the advice of the post and stuck to the cooked items on the menu. They were all excellent. The restaurant is baby friendly, except for not having changing tables.
I'd recommend it for a special occasion, if you enjoy Japanese small plates.

My favorite sushi restaurant in DC. Nice variety of menu offerings. Really fresh fish. The Edamame beans are addictive. Other favorites include the soft shell crab roll, the mushroom grill, the yakitore, and anything tuna!

From the moment you walk through the grand wooden door, the experience at O-ku is a multi sensory feast. Our favorite seating is at the Robata grill. Service is predictably helpful, attentive and yet unobtrusive. You simply will not have a better Japanese inspired sushi experience in DC.

I had the Red Snapper. It was VERY flavorful. The only thing was that the portion was small, but maybe I should have expected that.

The overall service was EXCELLENT!!!
From being greeted by the hostess to leaving, the experience was great. The staff was very interactive. Regardless of who was serving us, the staff would check on our table when walking by. Very friendly, respectful, and responsive service the entire night. DEFINITELY a restaurant to visit in DC.

We were excited to try O-ku based on a friend's recommendation since we love sushi. The food was amazing and top notch and the vibe is great. There were a number of service errors though that left us scratching our heads. We ordered some nigiri and what was brought out was different than what we ordered. When I told the waitress that we did not order the dish in front of us, she acknowledged we ordered something different but said that "that was what she heard" and there was no offer to exchange the dish for what we did in fact order. We also waited almost 45 minutes for our final roll, and the sushi bar team checked on us three times asking why we didn't have our roll yet. When our waitress brought it over, she said she thought we already had our roll (we were sitting there with empty plates the entire time). Finally, when we had the bill in front of us (with our card ready to be picked up), a different waiter brought us another table's check. It was an odd exchange where we pointed to the bill we were holding as evidence that the additional check wasn't ours, but they didn't seem to agree initially. They went back to double check and didn't bring it back, so I assume the issue was resolved. We'll probably try it again since the food was so good, but I wouldn't recommend O-ku until they improve the service logistics.

It was absolutely wonderful, the food was the best part. Also the staff were absolutely wonderful and helpful. The bartender made us some wonderful drinks and was telling us more about the restaurant. The waiter was super nice, now that I know what that place is like I will definitely comeback more often.

We were expecting authentic traditional Japanese food but they are very very Korean fusion.
They use Kochu-jang which is Korean spicy hot paste on most of anything.
If you like that kind it’s very good but not for us.
The place is very good looking looks almost like the one in Tokyo.

Everything about O-Ku made us feel right at home. The servers and the chefs were very accommodating and made the overall experience a lot of fun. The inventive menu featured the best sushi I've had in DC alongside other creative and complimentary dishes. I highly recommend this restaurant. We came here for omakase. However, they don't have enough variety of fish and seafood to do omakase. Despite so, they compensate by providing attentive service. I would return to dine from regular menu instead of omakase.

Its atmosphere is romantic & suitable for date nights, anniversaries or birthdays. It can be little pricey depending on what you order, but the quality of the food lives up to the price you pay. Because it was my belated 40th birthday celebration, I went for the $100 Omakase course menu after a long steer of the menu & rounds of calculations in my head. Sashimi, the red snapper entree and sushi (even the makimono's) were all impeccable. Other appetizers, marinated cucumbers, cucumber w/ salmon, shumai and croquette were also tasty. The best of the 9-course Omakase was def the dessert (Vietnamese Tres Leche)!! Oh my... how delicious it was! The waiter also completely waived all of our drink orders, which included two beers, two cocktails, three glasses of sake of which two were 'Nama' meaning unpasteurized, from the bill because the drink services throughout the night were delayed. That was way more than a 'make-up' to say the least, but what a great birthday surprise! Going back to the Omakase course, however, as I noted to the floor mgr who sought for my feedback, I did not find it the best idea to kick off the course with O-Ku Style Cucumbers, which were marinated in sesame & chili oils followed by less flavorful salmon sashimi with slices of cucumber. The course menu is all about the sequences of tastes from one dish to another. And, it needs to be perfectly orchestrated by the master chef. When your palete has strong sesame and chili oil flavors, there's no way you can wash it down with a sip of water and expect the customers to taste the best of the raw fish and fresh cucumber. I might be overly critical and picky on this note, but with Omakase, I gave the chef the right to serve the best of the restaurant in the very specific order he/she wanted to serve to the guests. That was not the smartest choice as far as I'm concerned. Nevertheless, the service was incredible, and I enjoyed the rest of the course after the strong sesame and chili flavors faded away.

I had a 9-course omakase in O-Ku. Everything was exceptional. The chef was professional and experienced. The service was also very nice. One thing I was a little bit disappointed was the main entree course--they served grilled snapper with ponzu sauce, which wasn't very special. I would have been happier if it was something more Japanese oriental.
