I always enjoy my Monday Happy Hour at Oku, and the sushi rolls never disappoint. I must say, however, my waitress this time seemed to have a slight "attitude" for some reason unknown by my daughter and me.
Wow! Our friend who lives on Daniel Island goes here once a week. So we knew it had to be good. Good is an understatement. Great is more like it! The staff, the presentation and the freshness of all that we ordered were amazing!! If your a sushi connoisseur this is a must stop!
Excellent dinner and service. This is one of my favorite places and it never disappoints.
It was an amazing experience. The staff was nice and helpful, the food was good, and the whole experience was very pleasing.
This is one of my favorite places to eat in Charleston. The atmosphere is fun and trendy. The servers are great! This would be my third time eating at O-Ku and it never disappoints!
Food was awesome, but we had to wait for 2 hours just for appetizer.
Highly recommend the rock shrimp. Absolutely delicious!
Music too loud could not talk at table
Exceptional service and food as always
Great Food, but a little pricey. Atmospheres was nice and wine and drink selection is good. Terrific Sake selection as well. Highly recommend for food quality and selection.
Aggressive interpretation of Japanese cuisine, with no room for subtlety
We spent a lot of time waiting for a server. She knew the menu but a little TMI. She disappeared and rarely touched our table. Waited over an hour for our food. Not all the tables were full. The manager came to the table when we asked to speak with him. He was congenital and took the app off the bill. Just think he should have come to us vs our asking for him. Albeit slow in coming it was delicious. Due to poor service, probably won’t rush back.
The food was fantastic, and the service was amazing.
We get in every few weeks . Food is very consistent.
Service was good! Our waitress kept an eye on our needs without interrupting our conversation etc.
The tuna tartare and the scallops were amazing! Everything we had was delicious. Tried many drinks, but my favorite was The Shogun. FAR too loud for my taste; I couldn't hear the people sitting right across from me. Otherwise, a great experience!
Food was awesome as usual. Took about 75 minutes to get our food after ordering and they didn’t look terribly busy. Also took quite a while to get the check when we were done. Will go again but not the best visit.
Had dinner for our anniversary. It fell on the weekend of the Bridge Run so the place was packed. Melanie, our server, provided excellent service even with the crowd. Attentive without being overbearing, knowledgeable, and friendly.
We had a sashimi and nigiri plate selected by the chef and a crunchy tuna roll. All were excellent. The lemongrass cream brûlée was to die for.
Music was way too loud. Electric violin was too much.
Crazy slow and service was horrible. All servers looked unhappy and never was asked how everything was. Once check was presented the waiter just placed it and said thanks. Will not go back. What a shame because it has potential.
Was visiting daughter at CofC and had an amazing meal! Great service - really special!
Excellent sushi! Had a reservation for Sunday night while on vacation and we were very pleased with the service and the quality of the food. Recommended by and friend and we will definitely recommend to others.
Amazing atmosphere and food. Server was great!
Out family of 4 (we have 2 teen boys) recently had dinner here, and we all enjoyed it. The sushi was wonderful, as were the scallops and the chicken teriyaki. Our server took the time to explain the menu items to us, and the overall service was impeccable. We will definitely return here when visiting Charleston again!
Service was excellent as was the food! Had a fun dinner with my teenage son!!
Took 2 hours
Menu can address any dietary restrictions and still get excellent, flavorful food
Wonderful sushi and appetizers were wonderful as well!
The food was as usual high quality, service was excellent too. Will certainly come back again and again.
Absolutely fabulous! It was my first time but my daughter was there a few times before. Our waitress was absolutely the best!!! She helped us with deciding what to order. Loved everything we had!
Nice place. Friendly service. Friday was half off on sushi rolls which was good because not worth the full price. If I was a young person wanting a lively bar this place would be great. However, I found the sushi was just average. .
The service there is pretty awful. They don't seem to care and are too busy to notice.
Overall awesome food awesome experience! I appreciate the fantastic Sushi as always and the awesome service!
First time visiting this restaurant. Absolutely incredible. Staff was great, food was great, and would definitely come back again.
Best restaurant in Charleston
Great outstanding Sushi
Pork Belly is a must try
My partner and I had a very solid experience at O-Ku. We ordered four rolls ranging from the simple yellow tuna to the more zesty "firecracker," and we found all to be well balanced if a little plain. The atmosphere was excellent for an up-beat date night, as the noise level is high but far from overwhelming. Value was decent, with most rolls hovering around $10-14; The wait time was also very acceptable, and our waiter was unobtrusive but also unremarkable in every way.
We would certainly return in the future after making our rounds on the restaurant scene, though it is not a clear standout on the Charleston circuit. We find it difficult to fault specific elements of the restaurant, though we generally reserve five stars for truly outstanding places we can't wait to return to. Were we to criticize O-Ku, it would probably center on the safe (and slightly boring) sushi, the lack of waiter presence, and the slightly pricey menu. I feel the 4.3 star rating given by the google search is an accurate assessment.
The hostess originally said there was a one hour wait when the restaurant was empty. They obviously just wanted us to go away as it was 9:45. Booked on open table and they reluctantly seated us. If you open then your open!! Hostess was rude which is not a good first impression for the restaurant. Food was good
As always a HOMERUN! Melanie was great and very attentive. Can't beat the Friday Happy Hour scene!
Hadn't been in a while because the sushi had slipped. Gave it a try with some friends and the food was a great surprise. The multiple bachelorette parties add a little spice.
I’ve been coming to Oku for four years. Best sushi in Charleston. Consistency in the quality of the food as well as the staff.
