O-Ku - Atlanta Ratings and Reviews
My friend and I actually arrived at 5 PM. We were not “no-shows.” I called the the restaurant back around 9ish to make certain our time there was noted on open tables. This was my second visit to O-Ku. The location is lovely, the food was great and the staff members are very attentive.
Met with business associates and had the rare opportunity during a well-worth-it happy hour (4-7 weekdays, IIRC) to have the server bring one of every specialty roll. Being gluttonous Americans we, of course, ate it all. Everything was fresh and beautifully prepared from the tuna tartare starter to the hibiscus tea mocktail. Great setting, full of the beautiful people (i slipped by) of west midtown. Only complaint was the valet was slow upon arrival.
We chose O-Ku for our couples’ date night and we had a great time! It was my first time dining here and I already can’t wait to come back! Amazing food and atmosphere. Our sever, Michelle, was wonderful and so attentive. She was very knowledgeable of the menu and gave fantastic suggestions. The lady manager was warm and welcoming! I truly felt like a guest in someone’s home. The whole staff at O-Ku gets an A+ from me!
Service was paiiiinnnfully slow. I like to order small plates a couple at a time, but my date and I realized we needed to throw them in all at once or risk never seeing our server again.
On a couple of occasions we had no water and empty cocktails and t didn’t seem to bother either Server at all. Wasn’t a terribly busy night either.
A+ for the terrific gluten-free menu! It is so difficult to find "safe" sushi with a gluten allergy because it is in everything at many establishments (crab, rice, sauces...)... peace of mind was wonderful. The hostesses seemed bothered by us being 20 minutes early to our reservation, even though the restaurant was almost completely empty. They kept encouraging us to sit at the bar or go upstairs (I'm pregnant so I get mildly annoyed by being encouraged to go to the bar). It was so odd. We were seated at a table in the middle of the restaurant, which was fine; I get that they were probably following a rotation, but it wasn't the coziest of seats. Our waiter quickly turned things around. He recommended the hamachi carpaccio as an appetizer, which was delicious. My husband loved the "Marilyn mon roll" and I enjoyed the heat of the Baja California roll, both recommended by our server. I can see noise being a problem on a busier night, but it was fine during our visit. A note about parking - it is free valet, which is great, unless you don't carry cash (like us) - definitely get change if you're driving!
Service was disappointing. Took over 60 minutes between the appetizers and the main course to arrive. We had a similar experience the first time we were there when they had just opened. At the they they said they were working out the “kinks” gave them the benefit of the doubt. This time, used the same excuse again. I am sorry but if after 2 years you are still working out the kinks I’m taking my business elsewhere.
We missed our reservation, but we had another reservation made for two hours later. Luckily, the hosts had us a table ready before then. So, even though it was our fault being late, the restaurant still tried to accommodate us as best as they could. The service was awesome- fast, fun and friendly. The food was even better! Usually I need to dump my sushi in yum-yum sauce, but the sushi was so tasty and fresh I didn't need any sauces really. Would definitely recommend if you want to try out some new, trendy spots in Atlanta.
I had a wonderful experience here at O-Ku. The waiter was extremely attentive and paid close attention to each and every detail. I spent my my evening here celebrating my birthday and everything was definitely superb! I’m definitely satisfied with their service. Thank you for everything, O-Ku staff!
Was there for a supposedly nice birthday surprise for my spouse and a few friends. Probably the single worse dinner experience in a really long while. We get the kitchen might be slammed etc but let us know don’t ignore us. Don’t not ask how’s the food after we ate and why would a glass of wine take 15 minutes to arrive? This would have been if the waiter was personable or the bill high for small portions.
We came to the restaurant based on a recommendation we received. We invited friends as a small reunion. The service was ok, but the food was very disappointing. The portions were small and the presentation marginal. The sushi grade salmon nigiri was stringy. On top of all of these things, the meal was expensive. One of our party could eat so little of the food that we actually had to go to Barcelona afterwards for a snack. We won’t return.
Beautiful inside. Our server Julian was great. He did a great job of training Jasmine, a new server. The meal was wonderful. The atmosphere was fun since everyone was dressed up for Halloween. I voted for the ninja! My wife received a complimentary dessert for her birthday and we both a received a free shot for Halloween. Great place!
What can I say about the amazing staff, phenomenal quality of sea food & menu offerings, not to mention the outstanding cocktails (try the Sugar + Spice)!? Every time I go to O-Ku I’m blown away by the service! It’s definitely become my favorite sushi spot in atlanta & boasts on having the best views of atlanta with their rooftop patio.
After arriving to the restaurant 5 minutes before our reservation, the gentleman at the hostess booth stated that our table was being setup and should be ready shortly. As we walked in, we noticed that there were more than 7 tables that had been setup already and were completely empty. There were no additional reservations waiting at the door.
The service was average. Nothing special.
Server was not well connected. If you enjoy sushi And plan on spending that kind of money just go to Umi. Hamachi sashimi wasn't that fresh. I watched the bartender, after sending back my incorrect drink, just pour more of an ingredient in my original drink. When I said never mind I saw what he did, the server had a laugh and said yeah I saw the same thing. No one was willing to rectify the situation. Not very impressed with this establishment.
We were there on the Sunday of Labor Day, which is essentially a Saturday, especially with so much going on in town over the weekend. The restaurant was severely understaffed, which I could see and which our server confirmed at the end of the meal. While there were empty tables (including the one where we ended up being seated), we were still told to wait at the bar upon arriving with our reservation. The bar was backed up since there was only one bartender, which was also the case upstairs.
Once we were seated, service took awhile for both food and drinks (we ordered beer and wine to make things easy and even that took quite some time). Our server was nice but walked past us on more than one occasion when it was obvious that we wanted to order our meal and/or refill our drinks. For the price of the meal, it was a disappointment. I know it's not the staff's fault that there were not enough of them, but I'd hope that they would at least let us know up front that things are slow due to there not being enough of them. It's also poor management to under staff on such a busy night.
I really want to like this place outside of just happy hours specials, but this makes it difficult.
