Novita Wine Bar Trattoria - Garden City Ratings and Reviews
We went to Novita for an early New Year's Eve dinner before going to a party. The food was terrible. I ordered the Rigatoni Ragu, the recommendation from the waiter, which was inedible. The sauce was a deep red which looked and tasted like it had been heating in a pot for two weeks. I was unable to cut the meatball with my fork. I literally had to use the knife to cut the meatball in half and discovered that it was simply a tasteless piece of hard meat. We also ordered the baked clams which were barely edible as well. None of the four of us enjoyed the meal. We went to Novita many years ago and we were reminded why we haven't been back in 15 years. Might be a good bar but would never go back for the food again. Probably the worst restaurant I've been to in 15 years. Understandable why we were able to get a reservation 3 days before the holiday.
Started with a broccoli rabe and sausage pizza which was very good. For dinner my pasta dish had red sauce that looked and tasted a little burned. The sausages were also a bit burned and dry. Requested additional ricotta for two people and received a mere tablespoon! Overall just fair but I would give this restaurant another chance since it was New Years Eve and it was very busy.
Novita is a late night "wine bar" not a restaurant worth your time or money, this was clear after our experience. We made a booth reservation for 8:00pm on a Saturday night for a date night. Booth was not ready and they "supposedly" said the reservation did not request a booth, when it clearly did in the email confirmation that I presented to the hostess. The hostess team of 4 just brushed it off and said we had to wait, unless we wanted to be crammed into a corner table that didn't even have room for 2 wine glasses on it. One hostess made many trips to the back of the bar to talk to coworkers instead of checking in with with customers at the tables. I checked in with the hostess desk 3 times and at one point no one was there no one there, everyone had walked away. We did not get seated until almost 9:00pm in a half booth by the kitchen, in which the reservation asked not to be seated by the kitchen.Being that I had a gift card to use, I wanted to get rid of it and never come back to this poorly run overpriced establishment. Wait staff kept knocking our coat off the chair and they didn't even acknowledge that they dropped it on the floor. It was clearly run by inexperienced college students who were not concerned with good customer service. If a reservation was made, why wasn't a booth saved for a 8:00 reservation? What is the point of a reservation if it is not acknowledged for the time or its requests? Food was nothing to brag about. We went there for the wine list, not the food. Once seated, it was a race to shove food on the table in a hurry because the kitchen was going to close down. We didn't even finish appetizers and they had the next course ready. Why didn't they move this fast to get us a table? Again, poor restaurant management and staff training. Overall, I would never go back, and if I ever received another gift card, I would sell it instead of dealing with low quality service. Owner should consider employee retraining or being present at the door.
The brunch deal is great! I had Bloody Mary's, the Ricotta appetizer and the Eggs Benedict. Everything was great. Our server seemed a bit overwhelmed and it took him awhile to get to our table. Once he did, the service was good. Great Bloody Mary's and a fun atmosphere. We sat at noon and by 1:00 the place was packed and lively. I would return.
Such a wonderful experience from start to finish- everyone was so helpful, kind, available etc. Food and drinks were delicious and our server Ashley was unbeliavable! Would recommend Novita' for anyone looking to celebrate a special occasion, host an event or for simply a night out! Prices are fair and service is fantastic. Looking forward to many more evenings/brunches here!
I usually like this place a lot but was super disappointed this time. There was supposed to be unlimited drinks for a 1.5 hour brunch. We didn't get our first course until an hour in and only got one drink that entire hour. when we did get drinks brought to us, we were brought drinks that were not ordered by anyone at the table. My friend also had to wait half an hour for a soda.
I love Novita, always have. Great place. Great deal for brunch, but the service we had was not up to par. I do not entirely fault the server. I have worked as a server and bartender in the past for many years so I know what it's like to be as we say "In the weeds" and she was definitely overwhelmed with tables all at once. She stayed friendly and apologized for the long wait. The food runners seemed confused and didn't know the names of the plates they were bringing out. Seems like everything was little bit chaotic. All in all this wouldn't be any reason for me to not come back but they may want to improve a bit with management of service on busy times, like brunch time.
We came here for my sister’s birthday and was pleased with the experience. The staff was very attentive, she checked on our table pretty frequent and the bus boys were polite as well. The only thing I️ noticed is that they don’t pay much attention on Opentable comments and I️ had to have my boyfriend tell the server that we are celebrating a birthday that evening. I️ just wish more restaurants would do so because it means a lot when staff at least try to make the visit a memorable one. Nonetheless the food was great and would come back if I’m in the area.
We went here for LI Restaurant Week. The menu had a large number of choices, for both Appetizers and Main Courses, some with a small supplement. Service was a bit hap-hazard; for example, we did not get bread (which other tables had) until we asked, and I was not asked if I wanted more water for a second cup of tea. But the food did not disappoint.
I went for Restaurant week based on their menu options and I was not disappointed! The food was amazing. I had an arugula salad for my appetizer, it had yummy nuts, and goat cheese and a delicious dressing. My friend had the burrata and loved it. For my entrée I had the Black Linguine with charred octopus. I almost licked my plate it was that good! It had a little bit of a kick to it. My friend had the shrimp rissotto, she said it was nice and lemony and delicious. Did I mention the bread? Ohhhh so good, nice and rustic, with a bit of a chew. I sopped up the extra sauce with it, so there was nothing to lick off the plate. For my dessert I had the cannoli, there were 2 miniature ones and I ate them both. My friend had the nutello tiramisu and licked the glass. Our waitress was amazing, I can't remember her name but all of her recommendations were spot on. I am eager to go back again this week. The portions were normal, not chintzy like some restaurants serve during a promotion. We also had cocktails - 2 martinis and 2 sangrias, and 2 coffees, with tax, tip and extras the bill was $150 - well worth it I thought.
Where do I start? Our reservation was accepted and we were seated. The table was in an awful place, right next to the staff, who spent a great deal of time chatting, making service slow. The best of the staff were those busing the tables.
I had alerted the restaurant to the fact that it was a birthday dinner. That was ignored.
As we were finishing, I received an email that my reservation had been cancelled by the restaurant. The same person who took our reservation also cancelled it due to a mix-up in names. Does that even make sense?
It's a shame that a birthday was celebrated in this fashion.
