Excellent food—hot and sour soup a surprise for this kind of restaurant and wonderfully peppery/spicy. Tuna stack, shrimp and grits both delicious and well presented/prepared. Thoughtful and unrushed service. The sorbet seemed like it should have been rather less expensive than the other desserts but was tasty. We will be back.
My daughter and I reserved for her 16th birthday. We walked in and the place was empty but they said they only had seats at the bar. There had been no option to reserve anything else online. We talked ourselves into a small table although the waitress wanted to be sure we knew we had reserved “incorrectly”. Then we were surprised by two coparents showing up to celebrate. We asked to all be seated around the tiny table (although the place was still empty) but the server and manager made a huge deal and rolled their eyes generally being very ungracious about it. Nearby patrons felt sorry and reassured us they were ok and offered for us to have their space to celebrate my daughter’s 16th. The food was ok - my tuna stack was not fresh. We had to ask several times to order and the server never made friendly contact apparently taking it personally that they had had to accommodate two new people. The place was still mostly empty when we left despite the manager drama about our table. Likely the best food in Bangor but they have a long way to go in terms of overall experience and graciousness.
Food and service were excellent - will return for sure!
Novio's is one our favorite restaurants in the Central Maine area. Food is high quality; presented nicely and delicious. We been there several times and love it! Small, quaint and charming.
We went to Novio's for the first time, with friends after reading some good reviews on TripAdvisor. We were hoping for a fairly upscale, special-feeling place to dine with our friends with whom we've travelled to wine country with and enjoyed the finer points of food and drink. After passing right by Novio's without realizing it--our Lyft driver didn't see the sign and neither did we until after we passed it and turned around and we honed in with GPS-- we were pleasantly welcomed into a small, warm space slightly below street level, accented by old brick walls, dim lighting, and rustic accents. Our server was polite and friendly and prompt. Then the fun began: a nice menu with good variety of artfully-prepared foods, and the cocktail menu? A good list of classics with slight twists and fun names. Our party of 4, including a vegetarian, a total carnivore, a foodie, and classic cocktail fanatic, all fully enjoyed our meals and drinks.
The atmosphere was great. Very elegant and cozy setting. The food is outstanding, make sure to try the chowder. Service was stretched a bit, it was very busy the night we were there.
Food is always amazing and the atmosphere cozy. You simply can’t go wrong choosing Novio’s!
The food was excellent and service too! We will definitely be back.
Came into Novio’s with a friend for a drink and some appetizers but the menu was so appealing we decided to stay for dinner and cancel our reservations down the street. Always a great experience without the pretentious attitude that you find at other neighborhood restaurants. We will be back.
Once again, Novio’s doesn’t disappoint! If you haven’t tried this hidden gem in Bangor you are MISSING OUT! This is the best restaurant in Bangor HANDS DOWN!
Amazing as always. We can't wait for our next date night!
A sweet spot, intimate, great food! One. Of the best places in. Bangor.
Had never been there before and we found this to be a real jewel. Will definitely go again. The food and atmosphere were wonderful
Was a great place to eat and drink - very fresh approach to dinner. Will go back soon!
This is a small, quiet restaurant with a nice, rustic ambiance. It’s easy to have a conversation but the tables are very close together. The food is generally quite good. I had the blackened shrimp & grits entree, with a lobster bisque appetizer. The entree was very good and a minor improvement (my preference) would have been to blacken the shrimp more and skip the salmon pate side. The bisque was very flavorful, but the lobster meat was not as fresh as it should have been (maybe frozen and thawed). Great service, and very friendly!
Always love our Novio's nights. Thank you for the experience.
I don't normally write reviews, but Novio's is the best restaurant I have visited in Bangor Maine. Every aspect of dining at Novios is AMAZING. I'm always greeted by the owner, Bob, who always makes every diner feel special and welcome. The ambiance & vibe is perfect: quiet - but not too quiet, and whether I sit at the bar or at a table I am always comfy. Definitely an awesome date night place, or perfect for catching up with girlfriends! I dine alone often due to work travel, and I always feel at home here!! The food is incredible. I visit about once a month and the menu changes often due to the season. Order the lobster chowder - I call it liquid heaven. Their pastas are handmade (yum!) and I believe there veggies are grown in there own greenhouse (locally grown!). I'm more of a wine chick, but they have some really cool and unique cocktails. Literally, everything is amazing. Tonight I had a seared tuna with cauliflower rice and avocado - omg the portion was huge and the flavors were incredible! If you want fine dining in an unpretentious setting - this is your place!
This was even better than I expected! Novios has a very intimate quiet setting with a feel no other downtown Bangor restaurant has. We were so happy with every aspect of our visit here and will definitely be making reservations again soon.
Our first time here, but will not be our last! The only complaint was that the walkway outside was treacherous with glare ice, we had trouble getting to the door.
Best in Bangor hands down. Dustin’s culinary talent paired with the drink mixologists creativity make Novio’s the perfect place for any evening out! Perfect portions allow for comfortable enjoyment of every course on the menu!
Lovely Valentine’s Day menu. Great atmosphere!
Our visits to Novios are always a delightful experience. Unique cocktails and innovative food offerings, served up by a fantastic and attentive staff. The Lobster chowder is AMAZING and a must have! You won't be disappointed here.
From start to finish 10s straight across the board.
Very romantic restaurant with cozy seating. Great background music and excellent service. Would highly recommend.
We had another wonderful evening at Novio's! Great cocktails, well-prepared food, and just a great room with great staff.
Great ambiance with ok food. The dishes are due a flavor injection. Good service.
A quiet table with a good friend. First time out in a few weeks And it was great to sit and talk and not be rushed during our meal. Service was present when appropriate and every course was amazing. The chowder lives up to expectations every time. Will always be by first choice of dining in Bangor. Thank you for a great experience.
Best food in Bangor. Occasionally we will go out for a "special date" to more "upscale" restaurant often being disappointed in the meal. However, we were exceptionally pleased with the food, service and atmosphere at Novio's. We will definitely dine here again and will bring company when they are visiting!
Novio's is always a special treat. The menu is full of attractive choices, and the selections are changed often enough that there are always some interesting new things to try. Our favorite place in the Greater Bangor Area, and in Maine, for that matter.
Our only complaint was the booth to the immediate right of the entry as drafty as people came in and out. Not a good seat selection for the middle of the winter.
The manu is overpriced compare to meal portion . I understand it’s upscale restaurant but you can increase or enlarge portions a little
Yummmm. This was my first visit, but definitely not my last. Can’t wait to go back!
Very relaxing atmosphere. Great place to enjoy a nice meal with friendly staff.
The food is outstanding. Friendly on point service. I love this restaurant.
The venue is charming, the owners delightful, the music in the background great. Cocktails were good, wine list very lacking. Service was friendly but slow and they weren't busy. Salad good, hot food cold and served in cold plates. Portions of entrées very small. All dishes lacked seasoning and were extremely bland. Would not return nor recommend.
Lovely, original dinner options. The tuna tartare was one of the most excellent things I have ever tasted. It melted in your mouth.
We love Novio's! Delicious food, great service, and a intimate atmosphere! Novio's is the place to go, whether it's date night or a special occasion!
A bit conflicted about Novio’s. $14 for 2 modest ravioli as an appetizer, no bread, no salad. Main course was lasagna for me, lobster risotto for my wife. Both tasty, however, small portions. We were with my daughter and husband, $200 no desert, no coffee. Scratching my head trying to figure out, why so much. Bottom line, good food, great atmosphere, overpriced. It’s Bangor.
We based our visit on a menu which we viewed on their website which turned out to be completely inaccurate. The only vegetarian entre was nothing either of us were interested in. They tried to accommodate us by providing a meal size portion of an appetizer which was kind of them, but it wasn’t very good. The soup was decent. For $120 we expected to be wowed and instead the whole experience was mediocre at best. Will probably not be back.
Enjoyed an amazing meal for our 3 yr anniversary. Some of the juiciest, most perfectly cooked hangar steak I've ever had. Coupled with the lobster filled rissoto and excellent and creative cocktails, there's not much that we didn't enjoy. Was a bit cozy and loud at times, but that can also be a plus depending on what you're looking for. Would definitely recommend.
