Welcome to Nouveau Restaurant & Cellar Door.

We are located at Balgownie Estate in Maiden Gully. Balgownie Estate is Bendigo’s oldest commercial Vineyard. We have been producing award winning wines from our first vintage back in 1972. Today you can visit our restaurant and cellar door and taste from our extensive selection of wines made from hand harvested fruit grown on their beautiful old vines that are now over 50 years old.

Whilst here, take the opportunity to, dine in our restaurant for breakfast, lunch or dinner. Our menus feature contemporary Seasonal Australian Cuisine, sourced from premium local suppliers. For Breakfast enjoy a romantic Champagne Breakfast (our version of it anyway…!)

Very nice estate. Food was good but a bit pricey for what it was possibly due to being Father’s Day. Service was a bit slow and they got our order wrong multiple times forgeting items we had ordered and a bit slow considering the restaurant wasn’t full.

It was a beautiful setting to watch the kangaroos enter the vines, drink superb old-vine full-bodied shiraz, and lunch on succulent lamb. It was just fantastic. Well done.

Unfortunately the food portion sizes, taste, cost and wait time for meals were not that great. :( Kipler potatoes had almost no flavour even though it was supposed to be salt and vinegar. Not enough flavour in the sauce served with the lamb shoulder and not enough of it. The lamb was already dry so it needed a lot more sauce. It took over an hour to receive the meals even though it wasn’t a full house? Very odd. The least you could do was serve some bread or something while we waited? For the price, it was not worth the visit. Very disappointing.

Food was good. Had a 3 course menu that costs 90 pp, which I tot was well worth it. Had a wagyu carpaccio for starter. Was unique and tasted amazing. The steak portion for main course was appropriate for the price. And pecan pie for dessert was the perfect ending. Wait staff was polite and attentive as well. And the ambience, inside and exterior, was so nice.

Balgownie Estate Restaurant set amongst the vineyards in a lovely location just out of town(Maiden Gully). The set up is warm and inviting with tables not too crowded, vibrant paintings(for sale) adorn the walls. Our evening was on a very wintery wet and cold night but was very cosy inside. When the warmer months arrive it will be great to dine in their outside area for the view. We thoroughly enjoyed the Thursday steak night with wine included steak was delicious.

Great value for $50! A glass of Balgownie shiraz, steak with your choice of sauce and a choice of sides. The side servings were generous so we were able to share between two of us. Our sides were green beans with almonds and crispy kipfler potatoes. Fresh slices of bread and butter were served prior to our meal. Two of our party of four decided to have dessert which was extra and it was delicious. I had the panacotta with rhubarb. Overall a very pleasant evening at Balgownie on a cold wet night. The staff were very pleasant and attentive once we had their attention.
